    • youre not their target market then.

      • Their target market is people from the cars origin

        • I know plenty of Indians at work and most wouldn't be caught dead in a Mahindra.

          Teslas on the other hand….

          • @SupeNintendoChalmers: "I know plenty of Indians at work and most wouldn't be caught dead in a Mahindra."

Same as the old days some white collar wouldn't want to be seen dead in a Holden.

            • @SetTheFaqUp: And still wouldn't?

              • @IlIlIl IlI llIIIl: "And still wouldn't?"

I wouldn't know. Badge of the car is the least of my concern.

Even the juniors at work drives much flashier badge than me (I rock up in the BYD as a daily). My cohort also joke (harmless) about building my dream.

                • @SetTheFaqUp: Weird brag from the younglings, I reckon BYD build quality is up there with Audi and the other German makes, but definitely not Lexus

                  • @SupeNintendoChalmers: "I reckon BYD build quality is up there with Audi and the other German makes, but definitely not Lexus"

This statement is somewhat true to the base model povo euro cars in fact, probably better than many of the base models.

The BYD is quite hollow and sound deadening/insulation can be lacking in some areas (down a door card tear down recently) as an example, as well other shortcoming if one is bothered to take a close look under the skin of the BYD. Not to mention the polished steel hinges not found in traditional manufacturers before BYD powder coating them. Nonetheless, good value car, and works well as A to B.

Now, image perception. The folks at work (c-suite) are well into their 50s and living in some of the most affluent areas in Sydney. Old school mentality and money is not much of a concern when spending on cars. (Amongst the fleet, there are some rear head turners that are rare). So, a BYD is taking the pxss. Harmless joke (my peers, juniors wouldn't dare to say a word about building a dream unless I start the joke myself), as they have seen my weekend toys on odd occasions that I drive myself in without needing to do school run.

So, there is the older crowd that is less keen on accepting a new badge from a developing country. Heritage will take a long time to establish and simply money can't buy. Funny enough, most of those guys probably got no idea about cars.

          • @SupeNintendoChalmers: I understand. I wouldn't want to be caught in one either

          • @SupeNintendoChalmers: They would be happy to be caught dead in a Tesla?

            • @Daabido: "happy to be caught dead in a Tesla"

              Status: Sheepish

          • @SupeNintendoChalmers: That's because most care about the appearance of their 'social status' - since when did a car, a Tesla, become a social status content? Same happened when iPhones came out. I feel sad for people who associate an items (perceived) value to their own social status to feel good about themselves.

            • @Trishool: It's mostly because they have nothing else of value to offer with their personality.

      • So because they haven't heard of a dodgy Indian brand, they're not the target market? What the hell is that crap?

      • They have plenty of target market, thanks, to Albo

    • That's understandable, they changed their name, they were formally known as Mahindra and Mahindra.

      • Not surprised they changed the name as it could be shortened to M&M.

    • Test drive what???

They will be down and out on 60 seconds

Fool be anyone being fooled with this offer

  • What's a Mahindra?

    • An Indian car. Not to be confused with the Indian motorcycle.

      • lol. They stand no chance against the Chinese.

        • I have a Mahindra Z8L and a Jaecoo J7 SHS, the Scorpio is mine and the J7 is for the Mrs, both are great cars, but the Mahindra is so much more comfortable and much better build quality. Even the Mrs enjoys the Mahindra more and find it more comfortable.

Chinese is selling more because it's just cheaper but doesn't mean better. They are always appealing to people with their interior but the build quality and ride comfort isn't the best.

            • @AussieGargain: tbf how many F35s crashed of their own accord…

              • @tonyjzx: None at airshow, which is to showcase the quality of product for sale….

              • @tonyjzx: Mate… dont have false pride and start comparing Tejas to f35.

          • @itsmoe: There are pros and cons with all brands. I personally wouldn't buy a Mahindra simply because sorcing parts would be very difficult compared to these "Chinese" brands and other legacy autos.

Also Mahindra's are designed for Indian roads which is why you don't see many on the international scale with the exception of South Africa and maybe a few other countries.

Mahindra is India's best car brand but in Australia they are probably closer to the bottom which is why i wouldn't buy one even with these fuel incentives. Atleast with the Chinese you can go full EV which means free charging with solar or plug in hybrids which also allow you to charge for free and then use petrol for longer trips

            • @Andrew12388:

sorcing parts would be very difficult

its very difficult for both countries of origin cars.

            • @Andrew12388: What spell do you use for "sorcing parts"?

              • @MrZ: Well everything is made in China and you can order something from China to your door step within 3 business days so am i wrong to assume it easier to get parts from over there.

Also with the massive influx of Chinese cars coming into Australia, you think its hard to source parts? Lol

          • @itsmoe: tell me you are Indian without telling me you are Indian :-)

          • @itsmoe: How do you find the firewall engine vibration inside, i didn’t buy one because under load at 110 it drove me bonkers.

          • @itsmoe: Expert advice: Mahindra Z8L if you need 7-seater, high towing 2.5T & frequent off-road
Jaecoo J7 SHS if you want cutting-edge tech, high fuel efficiency PHEV hybrid, 90km EV & premium urban road presence ;)

          • @itsmoe: Can you pls share more details why you believe Mahindra is so much more comfortable and much better build quality? No offense, just curious.

    • Must be a lot of Indians on this site, they seem to get butt burt and down vote you for not knowing who their dodgy brand is 🤣

    • Thanks for letting us know.

        • No I'm not even Indian you racist. You clearly have issues bro.

          • @itsmoe: Not sure why you’d interact with the guy with the name ‘freedomofspeech’, frankly. Downvote and ignore.

            • @dongltron: Haha yeh my mistake bro. Should have known better. 😂

  • Nah.

    • Mahindnah

  • Tesla should offer this too. /s

  • They all have to start somewhere. It wasn’t all that long ago when people said they would never buy a Chinese car, and it wasn’t that long before then when people said they would never buy a Korean car. If you go back a little further, you would also find people who said they would never buy a Japanese car.

    • That's why you should buy the most reliable car brand there is… A Jeep!

      • Mahindra do a knock off Jeep.

        https://www.carsales.com.au/editorial/details/mahindra-thar-…

Probably better than an actual Jeep though.

        • Anything is better than a jeep.

          • @MDSUXKS: Wrong. Jeep scored better than Toyota in the latest 2025 JD Power IQS report. You must be living in last decade or something.

            • @MrZ: "JD Power IQS report."

This line alone is enough warrant not to take you seriously, but rather a waste of everyone's time.

        • They were originally licensed to produce the iconic Willy Jeep World War II design.

          • @PvsNP: Correct! Was going to say the same.
From memory Mahindra also tried to launch Thar here in Australia along with the other cars but couldn't due to the Jeep licencing/copyrights.

      • lol jeep

      • According to JD Power's 2025 IQS (initial quality study), Jeep scored 186 problems per 100 vehicles, which is LOWER than the industry average. It's also LOWER (i.e. better) than Toyota, which reported 200 problems per 100 vehicles.

      • Bro is a God-tier rage baiter

    • I tend to agree with the 1st statement, however Mahindra has been making cars since 1947. 80 years is a long time and they are still woefully unreliable as an automotive manufacturer to this day.

Whereas Hyundai joined the car industry ~50 years ago and has since gained consumer confidence in the last decade. Let alone the Chinese makers whom basically dominated the market almost right off the bat.

I just wonder how Mahindra is going to do going into the new era of automotive EV.

      • Very well said, just because they have been making cars since 70s doesn’t mean they make reliable one…looks like they have never been consider reliable, ever!
I would rather buy a 3rd hand Japanese or European, even Chinese EV but never an AI (any Indian) 😂

        • I wish you many miles of untroubled happy motoring in your Jeep, Volkswagen or Audi :-)

      • Whereas Hyundai joined the car industry ~50 years ago and has since gained consumer confidence in the last decade.

Sure, if you ignore all the engine failures.

        • Your statement isn't unique to Hyundai alone.

European, American, Japanese, Korean, Chinese manufacturers all have and will have engine failures\recalls. Even on some Lexus.

Don't even mention Jeeps or Rovers.

      • Chinese have been manufacturing cars for a long long time, the first 'proper' Chinese manufacturer being the imaginatively named First Automotive Works which was founded in 1953.

        • Fair, and I'm aware.

But really I was referring to the newer players that is currently dominating the world's market. They didn't start out in the 50's.

Although the FAW name do brings back some memories

      • Yep good point. Ive been farting since the 80's and they are becoming less reliable as time goes on!

      • Whereas Hyundai joined the car industry ~50 years ago

And to think they started with help from people from BL…

      • I bought a XUV3XO AX7L (stupid number name but as Shakespeare said…) last September, past the 10k service and I couldn't be happier with it. I'm as happy with it as my two i30s (now one) bought back when they were the budget smart buy.

First, understand you are basically buying, at a great price, an upgraded Korean SsangYong Tivoli, as Mahindra owned SsangYong for a couple of years.

The same dealership here in Brisbane had Chery, Skoda and Mahindra and really at the price back then and even more convinced now, this was the best choice.

I've seen no bad owner reviews and if you have one reply to me.

Its very roomy and a super comfortable drive for a small car, comes with (unlike Chinese cars) respectable Goodyear tyres and a SS spare and if you want a petrol car at this price it is certainly worth a test drive.

I had the windows tinted through the dealership and ceramic coating (at a very impressive establishment) to have the exterior plastic hold up better and didn't realize the bonus with it being virtually not having to wash the car, with every rain shower from the almost non-stop rain doing it for me.

      • better throw your phone away then

        • Not all iPhones are (now) made in China.

    • I still wouldn't buy a Korean car.

      • Thanks for the upvote on my above comment. Too many sheep on this site. I disagree with your comment though - the Korean cars are just as good as the Japanese and have been for some time.

        https://www.heraldsun.com.au/motoring/motoring-news/kia-rank…

        • Still not as good as Lexus.

Toyota’s luxury offshoot, Lexus, topped the J.D. Power rankings with just 81 problems per 100 cars, well below the industry average of 121. Porsche was second with 86 and Kia third with 97.

Kia is a heap of junk in comparison with 20% more problems.

          • @JIMB0: Right, they're a "heap of junk" yet they're ahead of Toyota. lol

        • Only Australians would say such things. The rest of the world knows they cant engineer if their lives depended on it. Just way way too many engine issues through all of their brands.

      • Genesis is making some very nice looking cars. I would consider them over any European. Over a Lexus though? Not sure.

        • The attention to detail in a Lexus is second to none. I couldn't see Hyundai coming anywhere near close.

    • I’m old enough to remember people mocking Taiwanese and South Korean products. My parents grew up mocking Japanese electronics.

      Now who’s mocking whom?

    • I still wouldn't by a Korean car

      • Buy a dictionary instead.

      • Not even a SsangYong Chairman?

        • Only the Ssangyong Rodius or nothing

    • Some people are still like that, but they can't say much as they can't even buy an Australian car any more.

  • These cars just must not sell very well at all. I think I've seen about 5 Mahindras on the road ever.

    • If you are targeted demographic buyer, you will see them around easily.

      • ? Comment makes no sense.

        • Because the car would be parked in the driveway so they’d see it everyday

        • I am sure the 7 negs I got, understood what I am trying to convey…

    • I have a scorpio and I have seen hundreds of XU7's everywhere. Just depends where you live.

      • if you go to harris park or their enclaves you see some

HOWEVER… even with indians theyre in a lot of teslas and chinese shitheaps

        • Yeh a lot of Indians I know, most of them have Tesla's not because they want to save the planet, but because they are considered a statement.

I'm not India but I love my scorpio. It's costing me an arm and a leg to fill up but I'm still happy. Lol

  • I mean look….we used to make fun of Chinese cars a decade ago……and right now to keep German and American car industry's afloat, the Chinese cars are hit with insane tariffs just to give the legacy 'big boi' brands a fighting chance to survive and catch up.

    • "we used to make fun of Chinese cars a decade ago"

      used to?
