I went to Bing Lee today and had a good look at this display model, I have to say it is very bad and poor image quality. Don't ever buy this TV.

    • +2

Anyone who's not a rep of a competing company have an opinion on this TV from in store?

    • Thanks mate, thats exactly what I was expecting!

      • I find it funny how people are down-voting my comment yet have no proof to suggest otherwise.

Some OzBargain members are literally blind to truth.

        • Grapedrink, really?

          please activate your personal messaging.

          thanks

        • +2

Let me think about it…umm, NO!

Grapedrink, people like you are precisely the reason why I do not enable PM! :)

        • -1

enable it. for 1 hour. lets settle our differences in a nice and diplomatic fashion aye? :)

        • +1

Settle our differences??? Grapedrink, you are seriously overestimating your own importance here mate.

I'm actually quite indifferent to people like you, just learn to deal with that & move on. ;)

Back in China, my family have had 2 Changhong TV sets. Both lasted 10 years. One of them is still serving as a bedroom TV now. I definitely recommend the quality of the brand. Happy to see them entering overseas markets.

    AMEX card holders:
Bonus 5 000 Amex points ($37 equiv. in gift card for Bunnings, Coles, DJs) if you spend $500 ($1 more) register at:
    http://www.americanexpress.com/australia/personal/cards/rewa…
I got a citrus juicer to get over the $500, but the cheapest thing on the site is $8 for a cleaning cloth, etc.

    VIC buyers:
Claim 5 VEEC (carbon credits) back $14.50 x 5 = $72.50 according to the calculator say $2.50 postage/printing + $20 time so in reality, you're only $50 ahead by the time you understand the VEEC system.

    Hope this helps

    • How do you make the claim?

    • only some AMEX cards, mine not included.

  • Thanks op, bought one from rhodes $475.00 inc delivery thanks to an earlier post.

  • Hmmm, did this have an optical audio out?

    • Scratch that, just looked at the uploaded manual that appears to be a yes.

Just picked one up today from their main warehouse, set it up and let me tell you this TV is exceptionable value for money….word of advise, change your brightness and contrast, the TV's default settings are not great, some minor tweaks and the picture quality is vastly improved! Very Happy with it!

    • Did you have another TV in the house to compare it to our any comment as to as it stands against others in stores?

      • +1

Honestly mate, if you're on the fence about it, your best bet is to go into a store and have a look for yourself. TV PQ is very subjective. What one person likes might be very different to what you consider acceptable or unacceptable! The fact is that you have a lot of TV for the $ here, backed by a 3yr warranty and a major B&M retailer…it's win-win if you like what you see & you're in the market for a cheap telly! :)

The other problem with OzB is that we often have people (a certain drug lord excepted here) giving opinions based solely on some other person's opinion…or half-assed preconceptions or speculation with no actual practical experience. A quick look at the nature of the comments will tell you who is doing that. Seriously, you just have to set the bar for your burden of proof a little higher than anonymous comments on any forum!

If you listen to the naysayers you'll never buy anything that isn't considered top'o'the range by the local 'champagne taste on a beer budget' crowd. ;)

        • +2

I certainly get this and went to suss things out myself today. Unfortunately the only local Bing lee didn't stock the damn thing. Not even a different sized version of the same brand.

After heading to a few different stores the only real conclusion I came to was that the TV salespeople I dealt with were assholes. Annoying.

        • Fair enough. I reckon at this price you can't go wrong…if you order it & you're wildly unhappy with it, I'm sure you could return it for a full refund. Bing Lee have always been good to deal with IME.

Salepeople, well yep I know where you're coming from on that one! ;)

        • Maybe grapedrink's in training to be one…

  • Assuming it does not come with the antenna cable, where can I find a cheap one? The cheapest I can find is this:
    http://dx.com/p/rf-male-to-male-right-angle-signal-transmiss…
But probably can take months to be delivered..

Just ordered one online. Any comments about the apps/web browser from those that already have one?

  • So does anyone who already have this TV at home please comment on it a bit more? How's SD content? 720p/1080p content? Picture quality (sharp? motion blur? black level/shadow detail?)?

I'm quite keen to buy it but still hesitant due to now having seen it in person (I live in Melbourne with no Bing lee).

    Thanks!

    • just an FYI - i also tried ordering and applied code 5NEWSOFF and the price did drop by $24 to $474 but the blasted thing didn't allow me to check out invalid shipping method… I guess for folks that want to collect may work fine.

      • "Promo code "5NEWSOFF" is not valid."

        Thanks anyway.

    • Changhong is not exclusive to BINGLEE. Check your other local elect retailers if they sell the same model to compare the quality yourself

      • I am unaware what other shops stock this Changhong TV in Melbourne.

I searched JBhifi, Harvey Norman and the good guys but non of them ahve it. Can you tell me where I can find the set in person?

  • Saw one in store today not bad for $500.

  • went to Bing Lee looked at the TV not very happy with the colour so asked Salesperson to adjust it but no matter what setting we try it wasn't right, no image depth compare to other TV sitting next to it. Then we tried a MP4 file that I bought with me it shown slight motion blur I was so close buying this TV but the 50Hz refresh rate really killed it.

  • Spoke the live help today and they were like ships in 5 to 14 days if I recall, shame the site says ships in 24 hours, also asked about having it delivered on a specific day and was told it wasn't possible to pick a day, which probably pushed me to not buying.

    • received in 2 business days from ordering

  • +1

Took the plunge and ordered on tonight, saw a smaller version in domayne today and after pulling the brightness back had it looking comparable to the Samsung and LG models that surrounded it. Organised to pick it up from a local(ish) store I didn't know about and will do so tomorrow, maybe with a preliminary checking out of the floor model.

Edit, and hooray the model is in my Harmony Remote Database

    • Does your Harmony remote work well with the TV? I'm finding that the remote that came with the TV is completely terrible. I have to point it directly at one little spot and only then will it work sometimes. Truly my only complaint with the TV.

      • Replied elsewhere to this, call and mention the issue to tech, harmony doesn't help.

  • Do you guys usually sell it at this price? I'm moving at the end of the month and plan to get a TV after this. This definitely looks like a good option.

    • nope

      • hmm. wonder why I got one then. I must be dodgier online than I thought :p

considering the price has stayed the same since the sale, I'm a bit tempted to just leave things be and see if they send it out (as they have already taken payment from my card).

        • yes I received this email… Did you also pay with Amex ?

        • nah, by mastercard.

I emailed them to see if this requirement was mandatory, and by their response it sounds like they will not ship without this fulfilled

        • I emailed them back the required documents straight away, and the status on their website is still showing as "Processing", despite their ad says "ships within 24 hours"!

  • deal still on? looks like it becomes their every day price.
They may drop it further in the future, just wait and see.

  • +1

Still 499 in store as well, managed to have a look at the set before confirming pickup. All good and satisfied.

    • Thanks for feedback !

Any further comments on PQ compared to other sets nearby in the store ?

      • +3

Comparable after a few adjustments. Certainly worth the price on those grounds alone.

Plus I've just discovered that it comes with a free wi fi adapter.

Also pleased to see that it plays a stack of video formats right out of the box, most importantly to me was the Sony handycams video format and of course all the compressed totally legal stuff you get off the Web.

So it's home unboxed and working flawlessly with everything I've thrown at it, streaming, wd portable hd, wi fi, odd video formats and more crap i can't be assed mentioning. More than i can say for my picky branded sets.

        • Can you suggest the adjustments that you have made?

        • +3

A lot comes down to taste but you can't go wrong dialling back the brightness a bit, brings out the blacks and introduces a bit more depth, from there just fiddle a bit till your satisfied. Just darkening things a bit should satisfy most.

I play with the colour tint last but in this case it wasn't too necessary.

Noise reduction may help with the free to air up up scaling but I've yet to look into it.

Toddlers and newborns are not conducive to fine tuning your TV.

  • Does anyone know where to get a reasonably priced tv wall mount?

    • I've purchased most of mine off peeBay, there are some good Aussie sellers who will ship it out to you pronto…they range from ~$20 up & you can choose between various types of tilt/swivel arrangements.

  • +1

I just purchased this tv wall mount from an Aussie seller

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/120857695663?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:I…

$18.80 shipped and the seller has sold close to 7,000 of these and has a lot of positive feedback

    Hi Rep,
This tv doesn't have flash player support.
Would you know if there is a firmware upgrade available?

  • Anybody else purchased this and have any comments on quality ? am still sitting on the fence !
(now that they have it set up at home)

    • +1

      Very happy with mine.
      Can't see any faults.
Still need to play around with the picture settings but fine for me on default.

      • thanks for the feedback !
still building confidence to press GO :) so anything else is appreciated

      • how's the power on and channel switch time?

        • +4

Power on is slowish but channel switch very fast.

Just buy one you tight asses

        • Just buy one you tight asses

          Lulz! :)

  • Do you guys usually check for dead pixel on every new TV? What is the easiest way to do that?

    • easiest way is by pulling up a white image and looking for any black boxes (pixels). I wonder what their dead pixel policy is like (eg must be 3 or more/ must be in a cluster/ must be in the centre viewing area.. etc)

  • A plasma at this price mark I think would be a better option given that it is 50HZ displaying on a 50" screen. You can point to as many articles as you want on the web saying that it makes no difference BUT compare a 50, 100 and 200Hz and there is a BIG difference.

I have a friend who recently purchased a 50" 50HZ tv and without him saying a word I could easily tell through the amount of blur with the moving picture. In my opinion if this tv is mainly for gaming or your an avid sports fan you may want to look for another option.

I personally prefer LCD/LED in general over plasma TV's but 50HZ I think is only ok on smaller TV's as you wont notice the transition between the colours as much.At the end of the day it's your money and your choice, if your not very picky in regards to the picture quality (which i kind of am) then by all means this is a dam good price!

    • +1

Having bought the thing and being a little picky myself I was a bit nervous, particularly with regard to blur coming from using a plasma for gaming previously. I'm finding no motion blur, just finished a session of Max Payne 3 and was very impressed. I've seen some terrible motion blur, but mostly back in the day, the newer sets are much better generally.

One thing that takes a bit of fiddling to address though is getting a good black, being backlit the color setting defaults are a little too bright and you lose the deep blacks. I've fixed it but it was fiddly. I actually prefer a plasma but just couldn't justify the power use (of the older one I mean, if there were a newer more efficient one at this price I'd be tempted).

    • Guys I'm quite interested with this deal but I'm worried about the comment above. This is because my wife suffers from motion sickness. This TV will be primarily our day to day TV and no gaming. Should I look for a higher refresh rate TV instead?

      • You really should just ignore most of the grossly uninformed comments you read on OzB; particularly those from the usual suspects relating to 50/100/200Hz LCD/LED TVs! Do some research on how these technologies actually work then make your own informed decision. Look up "Motion Compensation" for starters! I'll put it this way, I have 3x 100Hz sets in my house…MC is turned off on all of them, as it is with just about every person I know!!!

I have attempted in the past to assist, berate, cajole or otherwise persuade many of these guys to educate themselves on the subject but many have thus far declined…marketing is a powerful tool, much like The Force on the weak minded…they continue to spout the same asinine marketing drivel as gospel in every TV post!

Seriously, if talking out of one's arse was suddenly declared an olympic sport then almost overnight OzBargain would have more gold than Fort Knox!!! ;)

  • Delivery with allied express is a mess. They did not call me to arrange for delivery time, and not even inform me the delivery date! I have to ask for redelivery and have to stay at home all day..
Are they the cheapest courier out there?

  • +1

    I received mine today.

    Have played arround with it.
Picture quality for SD (foxtel and FTA) seems poor. Colouring doesnt seem vivid.

I played my 1080p of version of Avatar and it looked better.

Does anyone have good picture settings i can try to improve the picture quality? I.e. colour, contrast, brightness levels etc?

The picture quality when playing my SD foxtel is very blocky. Guess it doesnt handle SD very well.

I do like the design of the TV, with the thin bezels tho. For $500 its ok.

    • Is it through HDMI or RCA?

      • HDMI

    • thank you for your feedback, still watching this thread for more comments (as mentioned, am still on the fence about this one)

Any chance to post a video of the TV in SD / FTA mode ? (no stores in Brisbane) (pls ..no pressure at all, just asking)

    • hmm, looks like they skim down on the upscale chip. Perhaps it will look less blocky if you sit farther from the screen. I will consider it once the price drop to $300 :)

    • Am playing Foxtel SD through xbox & seems ok.
      F1 GP seemed fine.
I'll have a play with settings & see how it goes.

  • +1

I just received mine today. Picture quality seems ok, but the remote control is not good. When pushing certain button you can hear an annoying click sound. Also, I did not receive the bonus ticket, but it is listed in the invoice. Where can you get the ticket? The TV comes with the stand, remote, batteries, 3 x AV cable, wifi dongle, and manual. Can anyone else confirm the contents?

    • I can confirm those contents, didn't get a ticket not did I want one. My remotes fine.

Call changhong, you get straight through to support and will have it replaced pretty quickly.

    • Sounds right. No ticket here either.
I can't remember a click, but do have to point it to the bottom left of the screen sometimes.

    • Yeah that's how its remote is..the centre navigation buttons are stiff and have click sound.

  • One small issue with mine, can't sort channel order. If anyone has worked out how to do that I'd love to know. Not an issue to me but almost a dealbreaker for other household members.

    • Is that in fav's or what it autosetup ?

      • Not in favourites, in the actual channel list. Ze yellow button, IT DOES NOTHING!

  • I just noticed that the top and bottom corners of the right hand side of the screen have a brighter spot when all is black. Eg when you switch to hdmi but has nothing connected (no signal). Also the top right corner is significantly warmer then the rest of the surface when you touch it. Is this normal?

    • What you're seeing is most likely light bleed, which AFAIK is still pretty common in entry level edge lit LED TV sets (and a few more expensive ones too). You'll also find that it varies somewhat depending on the source you're watching. Try fiddling with the backlight, brightness & contrast settings to make is less noticeable! ;)

      • Yeah I think it is light bleed. Does anyone else notice this? I can only change the brightness and contrast, but not the backlight.

To Bing Lee rep: Is this covered by the warranty?

  • Any idea how long does delivery take? I'm still waiting for mine one week on.

  • The other thing I found is the Internet apps, e.g. youtube etc are a bit laggy while typing or flicking through its options…The good thing is that you can pair your smartphone and control youtube app from your mobile.

  • How does warranty works?
If any problem arises do we need to post the TV back to base, or do they send a technician. I'm in Melbourne

    • +1

Asked this question to the online chat on Bing Lee, there is a Changhong 'service centre' in Mt Waverley that would deal with any warranty/repair issues.

  • Hi guys, Im keen on this and will be ordering one tmw.
Question for those who have one, can u comment on the smart tv feature? is it any good, are there any lags?
is the remote any good with typing etc.

I m looking to use this for my nba league pass games! :)

    cheers!

    • +1

Smart feature is not that great…. it would probably come as bit of a disappointment, because it is laggy… the browser doesn't support flash, the typing isn't very smooth… bit of a pain.

      • +1

Fook! I took the chance and bought one today! as long as it loads my league pass, im ok with it!
and i couldn't test the wifi smart feature due to wifi modem being too far away! so the dood said!

TV didn't look too bad in person, everyone's right about the PQ, its a bit yellow looking by default, turning the brightness down makes it look much better…

fyi also for everyone, manage to get it for 475 thanks to the suggested price above.
and got a kettle for $25 down from 40 to make it $500 even and qualify for AMEX bonus 5000 points when u spend $500!

got this Fairfield! they have 3 left in stock!

  • This has been my first purchase from bing lee and I've had a really bad experience buying this tv. Purchased on the 10/3/13 as a present for my daughter (her birthday is the 21/3/13). The status for my ordered stayed as "processing" for a few days, so I started emailing, had no response to my emails. Started calling, finally I got told that I need to verify my credit card/id and send them a picture of both, was told that I would receive an email requesting the CC picture in ten minutes, email didn't come after 30 minutes (it actually came a couple hours later), so I sent an email to the customer service with pictures of CC/id. I was then told yesterday that the TV would be sent by today.

Just checked my order status, its still in the "processing" stage, so it was not sent today.

Has anyone else has this kind of experience buying this tv? Or anything else from Bing lee? For an item that "ships within 24 hours", its taking a very long time. I've purchased online from hn, dse, eb, bigw and all have been great/fast, no problems at all.

    • +1

I'm into my second week waiting.

    • +1

In our case, the TV was delivered pretty quick, however the status remained "Processing" even when it was delivered. So don't just go by that status.

Also we were requested for CC details for verification, they sent that email requesting us within like hour of placing the order. You might have missed their email requesting CC details and hence the delays ?

      • I thought i might have missed the email too, so i searched my email even my spam folder, nothing, only had the original order confirmation.

Interesting that your order remained 'processing' even after delivery. Maybe mine has been sent! :)
