One of our favourite zero transaction investment platform is finally giving out credit bonus.

A Referrer will receive referral credit to the amount of $40 for each successful referral of a New Customer. A referral is deemed to be successful only after the New Customer has their application for a Betashares Invest account accepted by Betashares and the New Customer makes a single deposit of at least $50 into the cash wallet of their Betashares Invest account (Qualifying Deposit). Referral credit can only be used in the manner specified in section 2.4.

A New Customer will receive referral credit to the amount of $20 (New Customer Credit) after their application for a Betashares Invest account has been accepted by Betashares. Referral credit can only be used in the manner specified in section 2.4

New Customer Credit must be used within 60 days after which the referral credit will expire and will no longer be available to be used for investment. Referral credits issued to a Referrer have no expiry date.

Any available referral credits must be used in full in a single transaction to acquire units in a Betashares ETF (market orders only) or a single contribution to a Portfolio. Referral credits are not able to be split between two or more investment options.

  • Damnit, I signed up months ago without this.

I gotta say, quite impressed with this compared to Vanguard. I have the kids ETF's in Vanguard and moved my stuff into DHHF which has been good.

    • Did your kid get a free goodies bag from Betashares? I signed up for a kid's account (I'm 17) with my dad as the parent account and I got a goodies bag in the mail that contained a BS hat, soft rubber ball, stickers and a keychain for having a kid's account

      • That's neat. My kids have managed funds in Vanguard but I moved our ETF's over to Betashares a while ago.

I might look at putting the kids funds into a couple of ETF's instead of the managed fund, and with any luck they'll get some merch too.

  • Can only use the $20 to buy ETFs.

So you'd need to sign up, buy an ETF, then sell it to get the money out.

Probably not too bad, but not sure it's really worth the hassle for $20.

  • My favourite platform for investing for the following reasons:

    • Nice interface to use
    • Zero brokerage
    • Low management fees
    • Can invest small amounts at a time (e.g. the $6.38 I just received from Top Cashback!)
    • Do you know if all the amounts get prefilled on your tax return? Or do you just simply download a tax report? Or do you have to account/track every trade?

      • they don't get pre-filled but their tax report makes it really easy to enter

        • Is the tax report free? I could be wrong but I recall market share or vanguard you had to pay for the tax report?

          • @Brick50: Yes, they are free, just a tad slow last FY they released it mid September.

      • I'm pretty sure they do get updated in the AtO. The Betashares rep confirmed this on a reddit post. If you buy ETFs with them from the start (e.g. not moved over from another broker) they can also track your AMIT cost base adjustments.

  • Have been using it for about a year now and it’s very very good. Would recommend to anybody wanting to start investing!

  • What are some of the best high growth ETFs?

    • ASIA going gangbusters atm

      • Agreed but it was close to zero growth for 5 4 years prior. So buyer beware.

        • It is because of the AI boom. ASIA's top 3 holdings are semi-conductor/DRAM manufacturers. Take a look at SEMI for an even more extreme example. So yes definitely high growth but also higher risk.

    • Generally speaking, DHHF is the best for new investors; set up a recurring deposit and forget. Any of the thematic ETFs shilled below are likely at a local top and will die in the ass soon.

  • $40 seems to be very low, considering momo n other providers giving higher referral bonus

  • Are the actual stock certificates and ETFS secured in a different wallet or exchange? Or is it just in this app?

Also does anyone know if this does us stocks?

    • Doesn't do US stocks at the moment.

It uses a custodian model so it is not CHESS sponsored

    • was told that during the end of covid.

    • Valid advice for short term trading. Over the long term, it should be fine

    • As opposed to what real estate? BTC?

    • This is one of those cases where time in market > timing in market

  • The Betashares Direct platform is not CHESS-sponsored.
It operates under a custodian model.
Your holdings are not recorded via a personal Holder Identification Number (HIN).

    • Good

    • Do you think Betashares might do a rug pull?

    • I will never understand the Australian fascination with CHESS sponsorship. The custodian model is the norm in every part of the world.

If you're worried that Betashares will go under…I have some bad news to tell you.

  • Damn literally signed up a week ago!

  • Just signed using someone's code! Might hold for a little and suss the app as i've been meaning to join one :)

    • I just received a referral bonus of $40 already so thanks if that was you!

  • Just tried. the $20 I received is instant available

The $40 I got from refering someone will only become available after the $50 deposit received

well at least it is quick

  • thats easy and no ID was requested ?

    • Yes strange huh!

  • Can we filter for ETFs which don't pay out but reinvest?

    • Yes just go to Manage Account > Reinvestments and select which holding you want cash or reinvestment

      • I mean 'accumulating' ETF which don't pay out and create a taxable event until sale

    • no, it doesn't

  • Great platform just keep in mind

    1. They charge $10 fee per stock/ETF transferred out
    2. Recurring orders are only for Betashares product
    3. Not CHESS
    • Just transfer to your bank account first, it's free

  • Signed up with referral link on iOS. Completed sign up but only see the cash I deposited during the sign up flow.

    • Quoted from T's and C's:

      4. Reward Allocation

4.1 A Referral Payment will usually be credited within 7 business days after:
      (a) for a New Customer – Betashares accepts an application for a Betashares Invest account by the New Customer.
      (b) for a Referrer – the New Customer referred by the Referrer has made a Qualifying Deposit that is received in their Betashares Invest cash wallet.

      • Thanks! That wasn’t mentioned in the original post.

        • Also, they are Betashares credit to purchase ETF or Portfolio, so you will not see it in your wallet as cash

    • I had to redeem the referral code in the app to get it to show

  • Overall positive experience with betashares. No brokerage is great. I find the app OK, had some weird glitches where I couldn't go back to the main screen when in an investment screen.

  • This is too beta. I prefer alphashares

  • I'm considering switching from Stake. Any major pros and cons. Marion reason for switching would be the brokerage.

  • This or Webull? Is it worth transferring everything to Betashares?

    • Webull runs an entirely different ship, much the same as MooMoo

    • personally i trust Betashares more given they're like Vanguard and already make huge ETFs like DHHF or GHHF. I personally am willing to accept the risk for the custodian model with Betashares because they're almost too big to fail.

  • Has the referral amount been changed? Says $40 now not $50?

    Earn $40 to invest
They’ll get $20 when they sign up and you’ll also get $40 once they make their first qualifying deposit, to invest in Betashares ETFs or Portfolios.

    • No it hasn't. Not sure why it got changed, I've just edited the title back.

  • Can you withdraw the $50 cash deposit you put in straight away after placing your $20 trade with the referral credit?

    • yes

    • yes, it's basically free cash lol.

  • Managed to withdraw the credits without buying by placing a market order outside of trading hours and then cancelling.

    • same lol

      • Did you get the withdrawal? I just did mine and it says 3-5 days for the withdrawal to be processed.

        • I did it on the Saturday and received the money on Tuesday

    • I've referred 2 people and have $80 sitting there when I go to my profile > Refer and earn, but when I try to place an order it says I have $0.00 credit.

Any idea what's going on there?

      • Did you try to buy shares or ETFs? It should work on ETFs

        • ETF's

Tried both VAS and VGS. I sent them a message yesterday and it said "We usually respond in a few hours".
          So far, nothing.

edit: Ok, so it seems I can only use the credit for Betashares ETF's, not the Vanguard ones. I just bought $80 worth of Betashares DHHF ETF and found the checkbox that said something like "Use $80.00 credit".

          Sorted.

  • applied!
