Two groundbreaking Japanese electronica acts will light up the stage this winter, with free musical performances taking place as part of Vivid Sydney’s Tumbalong Nights on June 8, 2026.
Audiences can expect refined dance music imbued with traditional folk elements from HUGEN, followed by a genre-defying groove complete with an audio-visual spectacle from the group NIKO NIKO TAN TAN.
Incorporating wind instruments, bells and saxophone, HUGEN‘s electronic folk is immensely relaxing yet danceable, with smooth beats guiding tracks underneath.
Formed in 2024, this four-piece has made a fast impression in Japan’s alt-electronic scene. Off the back of debut EP Matsuri, the band played Fuji Rock Festival’s Rookie A-Go-Go! stage for emerging acts, and were nominated for Best Breakthrough Artist at the Tokyo Alter Music Awards.
They’re joined by NIKO NIKO TAN TAN, a collision of music and art that combines disco synths, jazz and J-Pop choruses with a live VJ providing colourful visuals for a true show. Popping up across festival line-ups globally, NIKO NIKO TAN TAN are establishing themselves as a must-see live act.
Free for all to enjoy, Tumbalong Nights ignites Darling Quarter’s Tumbalong Park with 23 nights of music during Vivid Sydney, with a cross-cultural lineup of live music from international legends, Australian icons, emerging stars, plus DJs.
HUGEN and NIKO NIKO TAN TAN will perform at Tumbalong Park on June 8 (Monday) from 6pm to 10pm. Find out more
