[WA] Chicken Breast Chunks $6.99/kg @ IGA, Canning Vale

100

I've been buying these chicken breasts chunks everytime I'm in the area.
$6.99 is crazy and it has been chopped already.
This is not a catalogue special.

  • Fill the freezer! GREAT price

  • "Chunks" does not sound appetising. Why not "diced chicken breast"?

    • They're not diced? At least they don't look to be from the photo.

Which sounds better? "Chunks" or "offcuts"?

      • Pieces.

        • It's Chopped Chicken breast. Not Complicated

          • @Packab: Thanks for clarifying; I was really confused and was seeking help with the complicated nature of the product, and not just making a quip.

        • i'll describe it as chunks or pieces. Perfect for curries.
Not exactly diced so that each piece is of even size.
If I'm stirfrying i might need to chop the really bigger chunks into smaller pieces which doesnt take long at all.

  • I’ve noticed majority of IGA’s in wa tend to have meat quite often a lot cheaper than colesworth, I always wonder why hmmm…

    • The larger IGAs in NSW are the same.

    • I used to sell wholesale meat to Metcash (IGA)…$50K at a time. The reason it is cheaper is because they use Local suppliers whereas the others use a "centralised" buying system. Metcash negotiate directly with the small operator. Their terms are negotiable…..you want be paid in 7 days…5%, 14 days…8%, 21 days…10%, 28 Days…14% on the top of cost (Profit). I also sold to Colesworth and the terms were NOT negotiable.
Bottom line…Metcash passed the savings on.

      • Interesting, thanks for sharing!

        • it is a better system for the customer. Local produce at a good price, The other side of this coin, the local producer has an outlet for their goods.

  • Niiiice

  • Is this only at Canning Vale or IGA's in WA?

    • i've only seen this at Canningvale

  • OP, would you say it's good quality chicken?

Does it release a lot of water during cooking?

    • it doesnt taste any different to colesworth imho.

Not that i could see, but then i dont overcrowd the pan, hahah.
Do i think they add water to the chicken to increase weight? i highly doubt it.
Seems to be butchered onsite if that matters.

      • I happened to drive by today and checked it out — frankly, it doesn't appear appealing the way they went about it (hence the chunks) — what made me put it back is the amount of liquid visible at the bottom, sloshing. Maybe the batch they had today has been there for a while.
