Subaru Solterra from $61,990, Trailseeker $63,990 + On-Road Costs @ Subaru

Source: CarExpert

Subaru Australia has announced price reductions for its Solterra and Trailseeker electric SUVs, bringing savings as the brand prepares to launch a third EV in the Australian market.

The Solterra has been brought down by $2000 across its two-variant lineup, now starting at $61,990 before on-road costs, while the yet-to-be-launched Trailseeker is down by $4000 with a new base price of $63,990 before on-roads.

The reductions come as Subaru announces pricing for the new Uncharted, its third EV in Australian showrooms, which will start at $59,990 before on-roads. There are now $2000 intervals between the entry prices of Subaru's three EVs.

Subaru Australia encourages buyers who have recently placed an order for either the Solterra or Trailseeker to contact a dealer "for further guidance on how this update may apply to their purchase".

I would be angry if I already bought a Solterra earlier. Obviously, it was priced way too high originally.

  • Interesting strategy, the Uncharted is quite small, so the extra $2k to go up to the Solterra is probably a no brainer. Especially with standard AWD and therefore higher power outputs than the standard 2WD BZ4X that this is based on.

    • It's the boost drink strategy. If we can get you to buy expensive, we can push you to buy the one that's "just" a little bit more… EXPENSIVE!

      • True, classic price anchoring - I'll have a mega popcorn please

  • Obviously, it was priced way too high originally.

    still

    • for those prices you can buy a tesla model Y. If these people want to beat Tesla and BYD they need to come in low.

      • Except the Subaru has a niche as it would walk all over the competition offroad. (yeah I know it's not a proper big tired 4x4) But still very capable off-roader and superior ground clearance.

        • for petrol car and cars like the WRX i woudl agree but for EVs they are out of there league, the servicing shouldn't be expensive for an ev for starters, Subaru are just making a profit on servicing. The features are lack luster for an EV. like most of there competitors all they have done is replaced a ICE engine with a ev one. No changes to the inside no real innovation. 150w DC charging also for the price is lack laster at best you can get that with an byd and its much cheaper. At the prices you are paying most teslas at that price come with at least 180KW DC charging min but most come with 250kw dc charging. You would have to just be a Subaru fanboy to actually want to get this because its not worth it.

          • @kungfuman: I own a model Y and am tempted to get one. I do appreciate its awesome offroad creds and ground clearance.

            • @dingaling2: your willing to sacrafice alot of features the Tesla offers just for ground clearnace?

              • @kungfuman: I dont use FSD. I really get annoyed not having buttons such as wipers when you hit a sudden cold patch and the windscreen fogs up on the outside in a millisecond! In Tasmania where I live id give up the barebone basic tesla-iphone esque experience for more traditional car but in EV form. The toyobaru offering is efficient, its plenty fast, smoother suspension setup and superior offroad capable. Yeah im tempted. Like i said i think they have a niche. Not for everyone. But definitely a market for it.

            • @dingaling2: Sell your it and get your Subarooooo

              • @kml22: I probably will or for the Toyota equivalent.

    • Been a huge subaru fan for many years but been really disappointed with their EV and hybrid offerings.

      • well if you are a true Subaru fan you shouldn't even look at their EVs…. it's not even theirs….

        • Whos is it? Pretty sure Its a 50/50 JV with Toyota.

  • grabs popcorn for the comments

    • The small popcorn for $13 or the extra large popcorn for $16?

    • I'll save everyone the hassle.

Corner 1- Sky News watching, One Nation voting rev heads that now love Jap cars, only because Ford and Holden no longer make domestic Falcons and Commodores. Will only buy a Hilux or Ranger.

Corner 2- Elon fanboys that will tell you Model Y or nothing.

Corner 3- Chairman Mao fanboys that love anything coming out of China, will tell you BYD or nothing.

Corner 4- Genuine comparison people that get crowded out by the other 3 corners.

The not so silent own category- Camry owners that love boasting about how long they've had their car for.

      • Ex-Subaru Outback owner that drives a Model Y LR since 2024.

I was excited when i saw the Trailseeker announced last year as it looks more like Outback than the new Outback.

Too bad however, for that price the range you get so little range especially for a car that is marketed as an adventure vehicle…

        • camry best car…

  • The front looks like a cop car from a 90s movie set in the future

    • RoboCop: Dead or alive, you're coming with me

  • Better looking than the Toyota bZ4X, but still an eyesore overall.

    • To me Toyota bZ4X looks better and is also cheaper and has longer range. However, Subaru might be better for light off-roading due to higher road clearance.

    • Subaru hasn't made a nice looking vehicle in 20 odd years.

      • You take that back. The Gen 1 BRZ looks fantastic. I like the previous gen WRX too.

        • meh. Doesn't do anything for me. If it was a turbo and made a whole bunch of noise, it might actually suit it.

          • @whichwhatwho: What does a turbo have to do with whether it looks good?

        • ZN8 looks a lot better than ZN6 tbh.

      • I was thinking that about the Forrester, it’s horrendous

        • I reckon that Forrester was designed for American eyes.

          • @rentonc: Yeah that’s how it’s moving these days, all these new boxy shapes by Hyundai and Kia are just the American designs too

  • Don't worry not that many people will be angry since not that many people bought them

  • It's basically a Toyota bZ4X, so if you want either of the cars, take the cheapest one.

    • If its bz4x, I believe its chinese battery.

      • Might aswell buy a Chinese car then give the 'quality' of jap and Korean cars now days. Even euro cars have cheap plastic everywhere (Audi's remind me of VE Holden type interior, but don't tell the fan bois/girls).

    • Its a JV between Subaru and Toyota. Made in Japan, Chinese CATL NMC battery. And the best off road capable SUV on the market.

  • Up vote for made in Japan!!

Come here for all the little pinks, blue zombies, and cheap skate comments🤣🤣

  • Subaru Uncharted from $59,990.

  • no spare tyre

    • Most cars coming with just a bit of goo these days. There are aftermarket space saver options, just the key thing is to find a proper way if tying the wheel down as it could be an issue in an accident.

    • They ran out replacing wheels that fell off the BZ4X.

    • 99.9% of the ppl wouldn't even know how to change a tyre 😅

    • Yeah because we don't want potential storage space taken up by a bloody tyre

      • just put it on the outside… Who goes off road and doesn't have a full sized tyre… Sure you can get away with it driving around the city…

  • Its unfortunate but this is the only way to make a Subaru boxer engine more reliable. So many issues along with having 2 cyclinder heads and 2 sets of head gaskets

    • EJ20s were extremely reliable in non turbo form.

    • Lol they haven't had head gasket issues in over 10 years since moving to the FA/FB platform.

      • They move to a new platform and now theres widespread oil leak issues, its just a joke at this point. Theres a guy called MrSubaru that did a good video of these new issues.

I love watching these cars at rally events but damn the amount of mess Subaru can put into the engine bay for whats essentially small 4 cyclinder engines just gives me a headache from looking at it.

  • One of the advantages of the 2026 BZ4X/Solterra is the efficiency as it can quiet often do under 15kWh/100km compared to closer to 20kWh/100hm for its competition (excluding Tesla). Its also a lighter vehicle then a lot of the similar competitors.

Also having a dealer network that is well established can make life a lot easier as they usually have good inventories of spare parts.

Remember you can always get a better deal by shopping around and haggling.

    • Link to supporting evidence because I call bullshit. It weighs all of 2 tonnes. Just like plenty of others. Freeway power usage is all that matters and this won't be 15kwh.

Edit - and stop sleeping on Renault. Lighter than almost any other EV (except Tesla I imagine) across the range. They are efficient.

        Claimed 16.0kWh/100km, Tested 15.1kWh/100km.

I was never claiming on only Freeway driving, but just highlighting this model does have much better efficiency than it's peers.

Edit: A Base AWD Solterra is 2,000kg whereas a base Sealion 7 Premium is 2,225kg

        • much better? the same "carexpert" tested the sealion at 16.5kwh. the 10% larger battery in the sealion covers this 10% difference anyway.
My main gripe is they will be trying to pitch this car to outback buyers who, shockingly, might choose to take their car off a road at some point. As such, I'd be hoping for a slightly bigger battery not slightly smaller. In any event paying $14k more for this vs the sealion would certainly be a choice…

        • That's impressive, as it has high ground clearance too. It's actually a very enticing proposition as it's the best off-road capable SUV EV available. I remember reading they were already using GaN transistors in there inverters. I think these cars are tainted by the first gen Solterra/bz4x but are hidden gems.

    • Lol, plenty of cars do under 15kWh even on highway.

  • Wouldn't bz4x be cheaper with 5k or 7k cashback if you go with Toyota Finance?

    • Yes, if anyone really buys it

      • Apparently most AU stock sold out last month…

        • Who told you that the Toyota dealer? with a the classic 6 month wait? Who is buying bz4x. Toyota holding onto Hybrid for life. Servicing and an engine and mixed use with battery using 5L/100km of fuel. It was good 10 years ago.

  • Ouch 73k

    • Nice someone gets it. The onroads are criminal and makes this price entirely misleading.

  • Damn they really took the whole "we want buttons" thing seriously.. a bit much really

  • I've never heard of this car before, but the black panelling on the front corner makes it look like the vehicle has already been in an accident and was repaired on the cheap.

  • 0 to 100 km?

  • Guaranteed Future Value of $12,700 after 5 years and 75000km.
    :(

  • image indicative only

okayyy….. so what is it really then?

That black trim around the front wheels (on the white version) is asking for trouble, especially if it's a different material/ finish from the main body

  • Still too much once on road. Still too small battery.

  • is it just me why do all EVs look like shit? i mean Merc EVs look like a Parody of the Ice cars and do does this?

dont get me started on shit like Cybertruck

personally think the BYD Atto look like shit too (Sealion 6 isnt bad) and the GWM Ora looks like a garbage bag

    • Agree. Taycan Turismo is alright but yeah, the bulbous designs of EVs for low drag coefficient are ugly af.

      • I dunno, the Atto 3 has awful drag resistance is still looks ugly af. Zero design work went into it.

And I say this as the owner of an Atto 3. At least most of the time I'm either driving it or it's in the shed, so I'm not looking at it.

    • The Merc and BMW evs are just scary expensive, complete money pit if you'll sell right after warranty ends. How can a small EQA start at $87,000???

The Asian brands are at least priced in a way not to make you feel like shit about your financial / life situation

      • The Asian brands are at least priced in a way not to make you feel like shit about your financial / life situation
The Merc and BMW evs are just scary expensive,

if we talking Pricing BMW is off its rocker in regards to pricing but they know the premium Euros are selling to 'business/corperates' using the sticker price as a deperciating assest for 4 years then off load the car the tax savings and re-sale value make the cost negligible over the life of the vechical - for regular plebs even small business owners it isnt really option not many can out lay 180k for a 4 year play not taking into account the high costs of servicing and insurance but that is the target audiance esp if you can get on some of the govt EV lease plays for the 'cheapish EVs'

as for the Asian cars it is only the Chinese ones that are priced competitive and despite what the Communist on here say the quality of these cars if highly questionable - i mean straight off the Bat MGs are f—ken shit boxes and anyone telling you otherwise is straight up lying

The Japanese are probably the best value as you get a reliable brand for the price but they are some of the ugliest cars ive ever seen but in general all EVs look like shit to me some of the Hybrids are nice but the EVs for general market is bad

    • They do. Looks like most are designed by some shite Chinese AI system. Saying that, the Korean Hyundai Inster is also up there in the ugly stakes.

  • If you want to buy a car with 1990s technology, buy a Subaru; they’ve basically stayed the same.

    • Does that mean physical buttons and an analog cluster? Sign me up.

  • I have a new Subaru outback for work.
    - It drives well except it completely fails at lane keeping and often steers me into danger even on straight, well marked roads.
    - The inability to turn some pest systems off is irritating.
    - The indicator levers are the worst ever created.
    - The song info on the radio usually doesn't appear and when it does it's too tiny to read despite the 27" screen
    - Also despite the massive screen for some reason I can only choose from 6 radio stations at a time, all restricted to being on the same FM or AM or DAB system not a mixture of each or Bluetooth. The whole UI is a freaking joke, instead of making it easy to use and helpful they've made it for morons with sausage fingers who like to read irrelevant information

It's just a bit of an annoying car, and I expect refinement for $60k.

Then with the advent of electric, Subaru need to drop prices hard on ICE. $60k for the outback is a laugh. I appreciate the cars in this post are EVs but they still need to drop by $15k

  • Never Subaru again. Had 2 keep having problems. 50k km on outback's gearbox need to replaced, there is a part in engine failed on 2 cars, even failed within 3 years new and the service centre don't know how or don't care. There is switch in gearbox failed on two cars. These only the major problem, minor thing like button working, chrome pain peel off like wrap. Only used in city driving and low km, problems none stopped. No more Subaru!

  • Not a CCP-built EV, so OzB's resident East coast charge at home, champagne socialist city boys will hate it.

We must worship cee cee pee cars on here!

  • I'm all for choice, variety and like Subaru generally however apparently these cars are overpriced (even with the discount) and they kind of suck, especially with their smaller range, unless you need AWD.

  • How the. Heck is this even considered a deal?

  • I was looking at a BZ. Thing that killed it for me is the low rear bench position combined with the high rear passenger floor height. Floor is high because of the battery underneath.

Even if there’s legroom, the geometry means taller adults have their knees up high with less thigh support

This video at 3:03 shows someone 6’1” sitting back there.

    • Yep. I have tried to find a car better than the Tesla Y but it's honestly difficult. Competition is either more expensive or compromises on storage, rear passenger comfort, range, features etc.
I would love an ev that has good rear storage and android auto without the compromises.

      • The only one which can compete is the Zeekr 7x. The rest aren't as good. The Y is still the benchmark.

Though a lot of people seem to be buying the SL7 too.

        • The 7X and SL7 are both solid but with the discounts and freebies on the Deepal S07, I would honestly say it’s the best EV deal around right now. $47k driveaway with 20 inch wheels, ceramic tint, mats, a 1 year charging card, 3 years of free servicing and 1 year of roadside assistance. I got mine recently and its such a good car with so much tech!

  • There is a 7.5k discount on bz4d via finance or novated lease, any reason why this 2k discount is good deal?

The Toyota is still 7.5k cheaper than this

  • As of today the BZ4X 2WD with a colour option driveway with Sci Fleet $59K, Booval Toyota $58K and Torque $57.5K (only if you make a deposit on a verbal for tonight only, so a bit unusual but hey). Had a mate just wanting to buy one so discounting has started for the EOFY it appears. Couldn't help myself and post as normally about $60,292 online build I think.
