Arrested Development All Episodes Free to Stream @ ABC iview

3230

I’m normally not a fan of streaming deals, but this is completely free and ad-free and as far as I’m aware the reboot (seasons 4-5) was only ever available on Netflix.

For those who have seen it before, what are some of your favourite quotes from the show?

Michael: “Get rid of the Seaward.”

Lucille: "I’ll leave when I’m good and ready.”

    • Had to ask ChatGPT to explain that to me… 😀

    • +1

Geez, how did I guess that Lucille Bluth was going to be the first to post a comment on this?

I don’t understand the question and I won’t respond to it.

First 3 seasons are the greatest comedy of all-time imho

    • +14

Yeah. Later seasons… they made a huge mistake.

Usually reboots don't work, but they were probably thinking: But it might work for us

      • +8

        Couldn't disagree more.

It's aged incedibly well, and I still pick up occasional jokes or running references which escaped me at the time…

        • +4

Genuinely amazed on current rewatches… I don't know how many dozens of times I've watched Arrested Development, but I always pick up on some new layer of joke.

          • +4

@keeperofthegood: I often wonder how much of it was planned years in advance and how much just materialized via some very creative writers.

The "loose seal" arc at the end of series two tied together so many long-running jokes, and continued to evolve in the background, not least when said seal ended up getting it's flipper bitten off many episodes later. To this day, I reckon the show produced the funniest and cleverest writing of any comedy series.

      • +4

Watched it a year or so ago, still very funny.
'Best of' moments pop up on my YouTube occasionally and I still laugh at those.

      • +5

Like what bits did you find cringe?

I think the last time I watched it in full was one or two years ago. I still see it as one of the greats (season 1 to 3 though).

    • +4

Truly a shame it didn't get the recognition it deserved during it's run.

Breaking Bad was nearly cancelled after S3 due to low viewership but Netflix viewership saved it and helped it become one of the GOATs.

    Narrator: Zonda, in fact, was.

    but this is completely free

Narrator: Unlike George Bluth Sr., who was defending charges of treason.

I’m normally not a fan of streaming deals

Because, normally, they're not deals. If a show is released to a network you're subscribed to… that's what you're subscribing (paying) for.

This is completely free (if you ignore tax-payer funding l) so is a genuine deal.

    • -6

Agree on the deal, if not the irony of catergorising anything the ABC provide as "free". After their $1.3bn annual taxpayer funding to provide increasingly marginalised content.

This glorious series being an obvious exception…

      • +1

No network or publisher comes close to showcasing the diversity of opinions and cultures in Australia — in cities but especially in the regions — than the ABC. One thing you cannot criticise the ABC for is it's coverage being "marginalised".

        • No one on the left ever will, that’s undisputed.

But if you look at the kind and breadth of content they produce - and their viewership - the current crop of journos, presenters and entertainers do not compare well to the ABC nursery of previous decades.

    • The only clever gag from the last 2 seasons. The 1st 3 were gold!

      • I agree the storyline of s4-5 were meh but…

Lucille: Oh stop; we walk on the beach; we like this feel of the sand on our feet…

Gob: God, the thought of your feet.

George Sr.: Okay it's fine. I'm glad you have someone to talk to. Well maybe I better go check on Buster.

Gob: Wow. Mom really has him fancy whipped, huh?
