  • Instant upvote for Chinese EV

      • Why unfortunately?

        • Bunch of people pretending to be car lovers but whinging about RRP

    • Succulent Chinese Wheels…

    • This is the Ozbargain way.

  • This, Geely EX 5 or wait for BYD Atto 3 Evo?

    • Yes

    • all looks ugly. sealion 7 or s07

      • Byd Octopus

    • The interior in the byd atto 3 evo looks like vomit

      Ex5 is a 35k car max

      And this one who knows

      • EX5 has 2 premium features which no-one at $35K. Tbh not many cars at $50K as well have it. A 13" HUD and massage seats. Where do you get the $35K figure from?

        • Ex5 with HUD is $49500 ☠️

          • @MKBHD: Yes, but not a lot of other $50K cars have HUD as well :D

        • He can import from China with 30K or 35K as his dream budget.

      • I paid $44k. Definitely feels like a good buy at $44k.

  • Wow such a good rate, I gacked.

  • Just a heads up that getting parts will be a nightmare as evidenced by the GAC facebook group.

    • Will they though…

Just saw a plethora of "stuff " for Jaecoo and Omoda on Ali Express / Temu.

Got parts for a Merc off Ali Express in the past. If you don't buy the cheapest $2 option, the mid level stuff was the same as SCA etc.

      • Im talking about parts for repairs, panels, glass windows, headlights… Not the cringe rice up stuff from Temu lol. This is coming from an owner of a GAC, their launch has been a bit of a shit show. They claim to have a Melbourne parts warehouse but a couple of owners now have been without a vehicle for months as parts have to be shipped from China.

      • Chery are much bigger than GAC. As are Geely and BYD. GAC is down the list somewhere.

    • Based on what? GAC has only been in Australia for six months, and has a parts warehouse in Melbourne. What parts are short?

      • Based on 2 posts and another comment so far where parts could not be sourced at all with 2+ months wait. One was driver side window, another rear end so presumably bumper and tailights etc. Another front windscreen.

I am aware they claim to have a Melbourne parts warehouse but that seems to be a load of bs so far considering they have to ship parts from China… I am a GAC owner btw, so not coming at this from a Chinese car = bad, but it is undeniable that their launch has been a clownshow.

Look at other posts about not receiving promised free chargers, warranty/service/manual books not printed or completely incorrect.

  • Great car (based on specs), dealership network is an issue in my area. They need more time to grow…

  • I visited China for holidays last year and really like these Aion cars. Didnt know that there was this separate GAC brand. Also for some reason, the models on offer here are fugly whereas I was a fan of whatever models they were driving in China. Just somehow looks very different

    • Yeah aus gets sent all the garbage models that never sold in china we are the dumping ground of memes

      • So as we dump our landfills to Indonesia

  • That’s quite the vibe you’re trying to spin there. I drink at The Little Black Box, but I wouldn’t call myself a pilot.

  • GAC M8 is a wonderful-looking car.. like a poor man's Alphard.. Only the interior/tech is outdated/let down

  • Aions seem to be very popular with Didi drivers in the Middle Kingdom. They have plenty of rear seat legroom and ride pretty quietly.
I'd definitely be considering one if I was after another car. But - like any car it really depends on dealer support here in OZ.

  • Trade-ins possible?

    • Yeah they do trade ins, not sure how it'd work on a 10% deposit offer?

  • All these new brands will not survive in Australia and they will have no interest in aftermarket support

    Buyer beware

    • Yeah i can see it in less than 10 years most of these Evs ,phev will be dumped on the road side because the recycles will be over flowing.

    • I wonder whether Aion share engine parts with Toyota. If so, it will be easy to find parts even if they GAC exit Australia.

      • That's wishful thinking and probably the least of your problems. Imagine having to write off the car because the headlight was smashed or your side mirror was broken.

Zeekr 7x customers already feeling the pain despite them being owned by Geely who is #2/3 in China. Side mirror hit, broken glass. Mirror glass needs to be replaced and whole autonomous driving system needs to be recalibrated so radars and cameras work. But guess what, Zeekr service department workshop isn't trained on this and the physical workshop size is too small to allow for calibration to occur.

  • Don’t think GAC will last in Australia.

    • Depends how quickly they can build market share. I think everything is currently in their favour, as EV sales are spiking due to Iran.

As a company they're a much safer bet than, as an example Nissan, but I agree they might struggle to build a big enough footprint here to make it a viable market.

      • A bunch of the 'legacy' brands are looking sketchy.

Will be interesting to see if nisssan bringing in some Chinese built versions saves them.

Jeep is basically dead already. Honda and Renault aren't far behind. Suzuki as well other than the overpriced Jimny.

  • WTH is a GAC…

    • Though new to Australia, they made around as many cars last year as Tesla.

They produce (in parnership) toyota and honda for the Chinese market.

    • Great Australia Car

  • I'm wrong, but man I feel this post is pointless without the actual car prices…

  • 0.99% that is unheard off these days.

    • Indeed. It is a negative interest rate. So when CPI is 6% like it is now, GAC is paying you 5% of the value of the car. If CPI increases even higher, the subsidy is even greater.

    • How do you actually get the 0.99 rate?

    • That means they are having a serious financial issue or having a bunch of stocks they never going to sell them all, cheap to buy but hard to keep

  • I have an Aion V and love it, it was a toss up with the ex5 but decided on the Aion V luxury. Similar specs but I just preferred the Aion.

    • Whats it like as a daily driver?

      • Drives really well

    • Same situation and ended up ordering the aion v. I found the drive to be much smoother. Bit of a wait for new stock to arrive

    • Have you slept inside of it yet, like in the ads?

      • Haven't slept in it, don't plan on sleeping in it either. But it felt bigger than the ex5, possibly because it's boxier…. feels like I can get a lot in the boot. I intend to try some weekends away and maybe camping. The fridge might come in handy for that too.

    • what's the approximate cost?

  • To be honest, no matter which Chinese brand, all Chinese vehicles sold in Australia is a few generation behind the Chinese local market, using outdate technology, missing many features comparing the models in China. Only exception is Tesla from Shanghai factory. But as a GWM owner, you cannot complaint the manufactorer, as a exporter, they need to pay delevery fee and warranty costs. If the car is too smart, gov will treat it as a spy like US.

    • Aus gets the trash that never sold in china

      • Given they are left hand drive that really doesn't make much sense.

  • They're putting out some really good deals because they're new here in Australia, they only officially launched in Nov25 so give them some time (they're huge in China and they make Toyotas and Hondas!), but it is also highly likely they're here to stay and grow. Yes they will need some time to settle but it is quite promising I'd say. Right now their cars are pretty great but are largely hindered by the software which hopefully if they get their acts together and focus on getting it right with updates quickly will bring a lot of confidence to the brand. I reckon this is the most important for them as a brand at the moment and its really gonna be make or break for them.

    • The issue is the flood of competition.
I'm not sure the Australian market is big enough for them all.

Better off buying a more established Chinese brand in Australia or one that has sales skyrocketing such as Zeekr.

Geely and Chery are also good alternatives alongside the well established BYD, MG and GWM.

  • Anyone find out what sort of fees were involed? Monthly or application fee

  • Looks like they've also added a 10% novated lease discount offer

  • How much is it?
