  • what a catchy name for a model of a car !!

    • I thought they were changing it to something less confusing, guess the wheels of justice marketing turn slowly.

    • Toyota don't really care about EV, they probably just pick a random name

      • According to Toyota, the meaning of the "bZ4X" nameplate breaks down into:

"bZ": for "beyond Zero" emissions, representing the nature of a battery-electric vehicle by going "beyond Zero" emissions,
"4": from the equivalent-sized Toyota RAV4 and the
"X": describing it as a compact crossover ('X') SUV.

        • who gonna give a crap about all these abbreviations when the car is inferior to other EVs?

    • You'd think the 4X part would indicate 4x4

    • You have to wonder how this happens. They spend hundreds of millions on R&D to develop a new product, then throw it to marketing for a catchy name and the best they have is 'bZ4x'? It is the worst possible branding I've ever seen.

      • It's a by-product of not wanting to sell it.

    • I heard lord Toyota will only grace the world with Solid state batteries
Oh how the mighty have fallen!

    • Named after elons grand kid

    • It's competing with the roll-off-the-tongue Mahindra XUV3XO.

When marketing just gets a random password generator to throw up model names.

  • EOFY deals are dropping. Waiting for some cheap Chinese electric.

  • So many free things just to prop up the RRP

  • She ugly

    • That cladding does not do it any favours

      • Yeah, I think they've done away with that in some other countries. Hopefully we get that version next year. Great looking car otherwise IMO.

  • Not applicable to bz4x touring, just in case if anyone’s wondering.

    • That's one I'm interested in seeing more of

      • Same, that’s why i rang and asked. Offer not applicable. Car is not even available for test drive till next month

    • Yes it is! I work for a dealer - $7.5k deposit contribution on the AWD or the Touring model.
Tell the dealer to refer to bulletin issued on 7/5/26.

      • Thanks, the person I spoke to check with the business manager and said no it’s not applicable

        • may be order through @alejandros dealer?

        • If the customer is financing through Toyota Finance, the dealer must offer the promo to the customer unless you finance it greater than 72 months or finance less than $10,000. They can't get around it.

I would assume they are selectively not wanting to sell you a car.

          • @alejandros: Just rang two more dealer. One said yes and one said no. This is just asking if the offer is applicable or not.

Thank you for the info about they can’t get around the offer. I’ll go in and check and see what the finance term is for $10000.

      • Do you know what date this promotion ends?

        • The purchase (order) and finance application (submitted at least) must be done before 30th of June. Typically Toyota Finance have a must settle by date but in this case it is indefinite due to vehicle shortages and delays.

  • How are Toyota EVs from a reliability standpoint? Any views?

    • Wheels were flying off, but they have fixed it since.

If cars are still build the Toyota way, I wouldn't be worried.

      • Interesting! So now v start questioning the worlds largest car maker for god knows how many decades over quality. Smells like propaganda

      • This is what AI said about Tesla
Tesla has faced official recalls and federal investigations regarding both steering wheels detaching from the steering column and drive wheels physically falling off due to separate manufacturing and mechanical defects

        • Was it only for the American-made ones? Because those are the most notorious for high variance and bad build quality between units.

    • Out of all the EVs I took in China the Toyota's were the only ones that didn't have cabin rattles and clunking in the drivetrain.

    • I believe GAC make this vehicle for Toyota in China - not sure which version we get in Australia. They have a long standing partnership if so, so tend to make very reliable cars

  • Why would anyone choose this over Tesla Y RWD… Same price.

    • why would anyone choose this over a Zeekr 7X RWD?

      • So you can exit ur car when/if it ever catches fire zeekr 7x ur as good as dead

        • Bulls eye!!

Now you and me just wait for the neg from little pinks and China EV skint 🤣🤣

        • Jesus.. having to get creative with the what ifs.. what if the door handle is burnt on your Toyota bro?

          • @Bargainboss99: There are 3 other door handles and the boot as well. So should be pretty safe.

      • this one is made in Japan.

Same reason I pick a D.Core when I recently brought a massage chair. Funny how the people who sell the IRest and OSIM crap has to try so hard….

        • yea.. when it comes to EV sadly the traditional automobile manufacturers, including Japanese giants have been too slow to adapt.

Tesla Y is a much larger car than bz4x and yet has higher chassis rigidity & lighter. That's due to Tesla "giga casting" manufacturing process where the whole frame is pressed together as a single unit eliminating traditional robotic arm welding.

          Times have changed..

"Made in Japan" quality are a thing from the 80s

          • @ChaLuo: Tesla is good established car with best software, I didn't choose it as didn't like everything works from screen including shifting gears. I prefer one with physical buttons/control. Having said that this Toyota model is great improvement on previous model with great range of 591km, but drawback it is FWD, better get RWD car.

            • @huntabargain: great point!

            • @huntabargain: Front wheel drive is not inherently worse.

It’s safer and easier for the average driver to control. It’s better from an engineering standpoint having everything packaged at the front of the car. It’s more effective for regen.

              • @tp0: I don't know where you got your info from, but it does not match with all the premium models being RWD.

                • @huntabargain: Tesla did it because they’re American and the American market expected RWD in a large sedan (Model S). Then everyone copied Tesla.

                  • @tp0: many cheaper Chinese EV cars are FWD, so may be it is cheaper to build but the better brands do RWD, even some cheaper BYD models are FWD unlike the more premium models eg SL7.

          • @ChaLuo: I test drove the new Model Y, interior felt cheap and nasty. The seat was harsh as sitting on a stool. Everyone felt sick afterwards.

It might have cast better but the bz4 drives better more like traditional car. And more comfortable. We all value different things about the car.

          • @ChaLuo:

including Japanese giants have been too slow to adapt.

Being careful in adapting new ideas is part of the reliability formula. If you change with the wind you will never have a reliable product.

That's due to Tesla "giga casting" manufacturing process where the whole frame is pressed together as a single unit

The gigapress is only for the not yet released Tesla Robotaxi. All other Teslas are built by conventional methods.

            • @1st-Amendment: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giga_Press

By October 2020, three locally made LK Machinery Impress-Plus DCC6000 machines were undergoing assembly for Model Y production

For Tesla Model Y car production at Giga Texas beginning in 2022, Tesla began to deploy a single-piece front in addition to the existing single-piece rear casting.[28]

              ..
              ..

              • @ChaLuo: When you said:

the whole frame is pressed together as a single unit

The single frame press is Gigapress 2.0 which is only for Robotaxi.

Gigapress 1 still just presses parts and bonds them together like most other car manufacturers.

            • @1st-Amendment: The giga-press will actually put Japanese manufacturing ahead in the next decade. If you don't know read up Ryobi.

Tesla buys machines. The Japanese have the master die to make them.

          • @ChaLuo: The funny thing being that, in the 80s, people called Japanese cars crap.

My grandpa was a mechanic, used to rave on about Japanese cars being no good back then, you had to buy Ford or Holden, etc

Granted, he refused to have anything Chinese or Japanese made in the house. Probably a good thing he died over 20 years ago, he wouldn’t have coped well these days.

It’s hard for people to understand that times can change very quickly.

            • @freefall101: That just doesn't make any sense, your Grandpa isn't comparing Apples to Apples. What made Toyota famous and penetrated western markets was the Australian made Corolla. It show cased reliability and efficiency without the stigma of foreign made and that's what bled into other Western markets for the reputation.

Read up Toyota's history if you don't believe me. Australia factory was the first foreign factory and it's real reason for success.

          • @ChaLuo: It took two decades for the Koreans to catch up with the Japs on automobile fundamentals…

PRC junk are cheap just because of the over capacity from over automations and the government subsidies.

      • It's cheaper and got more than 100km WLTP range than Zeekr 7X RWD. Also, Toyota has biggest dealer network in Australia.

I don't know why anyone would choose Zeekr 7X RWD over this.

    • An extra 125km of WLTP range may be meaningful for some, plus a conventional interior, instruments and controls.

My wife hates driving my Model 3 and was driving a RAV4 hybrid which she liked, so Toyota it was 🤷‍♂️

Plus as I mentioned in another comment, dealers are willing to slash thousands off the price if you're willing to haggle.

  • 1 up vote for Made in Japan

  • With the economy in the 💩er these automotive deals are going to keep coming.

I really hope manufacturers fix the styling soon because most of these cars look like they have been designed by an 8 year old in the back of his school workbook. Forced futuristic style with oversized wheels.

    • Yes I don't think most Australians see but they will soon. Where I work we see things when thr economy starts to turn first. I'd give it 3-6momths tops.

Also with US10yr yields sky high, I'd also wager pumped stocks like Nvidia to halve to about $160-$180usd. Can't print money forever.

    • Do forget to price in your life insurance policy…

    • Aion support is non-existent and the software is shit. All Chinese EVs aren't built to last, corners have been cut everywhere.

    • GAC are bleeding badly and the legacy Honda and Toyota joint ventures aren't growing since it's mostly NEV now. IMO it is risky to buy a GAC or Aion branded car unless their expansion overseas improves their financial outlook.

      https://finance.yahoo.com/compare?comps=7203.T,2238.HK,60123…

      • That Tesla PE ratio vs Toyota is crazy.

  • $5k/$7.5k (RWD/AWD) only when finance through Toyota, not valid for any other method of payments. This has been on offer for couple/few months now. Very restricted.

  • Sounds like Elons kids name

  • this or 10yo camry with 100k km all mechanically sound

  • I drove one of these as a rental and it was hands down the worst EV I've ever driven. Granted I think it was the first generation but it somehow felt ancient even with the modern drivetrain.

The interior was an absolute disaster - heaps of blank button spots, no one pedal drive (or so hidden I couldn't find it), the dumbest gear selector ever put in a vehicle, trash sound system - it was just a bad car.

    • It's a $30,000 car trying to be flogged off for $59,000

    • The dumbest gear selector is the one imbedded into the screeen

  • Whey would you pay such a ridiculous amount of money for a bZ4X, when a Kia EV3, which was the 2025 world car of the year is less than $50,000

    • bZ4X 4,690 mm, 1,860 mm, 1,650 mm high with 2,850 mm wheelbase 165kw power
      EV3 4,300 mm, 1,850 mm, 1,560 mm high with 2,680 mm wheelbase 150kw power
Big difference in size, may be the Kia EV5 is a better comparison.

      • Nope, price is all that matters!

    • wOrLd cAr oF tHe yeAr

  • Where are people storing all their new ozbargain rides?

  • Sounds more like a DNA mutation marker than a car.

WTF were the marketing dept doing when they could come up with any number of names that at ZERO cost could atleast get free real estate in consumers minds for the qualities the car might have or atleast be catchy.

No wonder Toyota is badge riding on it's efforts from 20yrs ago.

  • Old mate tells me the wheels don’t fall of these ones.

  • Insane that anyone would consider anything but Tesla at this price point

    • Surprised that anyone would still consider a Tesla at any price point - except for people who need the remaining "Tesla only" superchargers frequently enough to justify that choice.

      • Name one category where this Toyota would beat a model y

        • I wouldn't buy this Toyota either.

Chinese EVs are the best value for money by far. With plenty of choice for every budget.

And yes, I'd rather support communists than Nazis. :-)

        • The cateogory where you don't look like a tool driving one.

        • Aryan, yeah name checks out being a tesla fan

    • You seem new here. I can give you two bad words: Elon Musk.
P.s. I am not a Tesla brand hater, I think the technology and software are very well refined.

      • But why? Because you read a reddit post from your mother’s basement 12 months ago?

        • You sound like a child, resorting to playground personal insult now?
