Mountain Designs Expedition Duffel Bags All Sizes $50 (Reg. $119.99 - $199.99) + $9.99 Delivery ($0 C&C/$120 Spend) @ Anaconda

1070

Great clearance price on these Mountain Designs duffel bags. All sizes and colours (black and "lemon chrome") available for delivery, or click and collect at selected stores. Quite a bit cheaper than previous deals, especially for the larger bags. I picked up a 120L and it feels very durable.

50L (Reg. $119.99)
70L (Reg. $149.99)
90L (Reg. $179.99)
120L (Reg. $199.99)

There's also the Expedition Pro Legacy Edition 40L for $50. Seems to have a few extra features and looks cool, but pretty small.

For previous deals/experiences in buying these.

But 120L packed would be super heavy, and also exceed check in dimensions if you're planning on doing that.

    • agree, 70L is about as large as I would buy. 50L is quite nice for travel

      • Is 50L good for carry on for a few days to a week, or would 70L be better?

        • You need to check which one will fit the dimensions allowed.

        • 40L is generally the size for carry-on.

        • You need 40L for carryon and cinch down the side straps. It also "looks" bigger than a carryon suitcase so I have been asked to weigh it before (but never been forced to check it in). Qantas/Virgin. I imagine Jetstar will ask every time.

          • @mathematicalcoffee: ah sorry - turns out I have the 50L not 40L! and have brought it carryon, but am sure to cinch it down and not pack it fully, and I do sometimes get asked to weigh it. It will fit in the carryon bin in the cross-wise direction (the circle end faces out) IF not fully packed/squash it a bit. They can take a beating which is fantastic.

So based on that experience I think the 40L would easily be carryon without being challenged, while the 50L is borderline (especially on budget airline).

    • i wonder if you can use the straps to compress the size down a bit, as it stands its ~10cm over the checked baggage limit.

      • Soft bags will bow out in the middle, so the size will always be larger than the edge dimensions, which doesn't work in your favour if the airlines want to be assholes about it.

  • Well that was a quick $250 for a casual scroll.

    • Haha, you and I think alike!
250 gone as well. Good deal though.

      • same - wasn't expecting to own $250 worth of duffle bags when I woke up yesterday haha.

  • how’s the quality?

    • I have a few in different sizes. Quality is good. Pretty bomb proof.
Only gripe is Zips are quite stiff going through corners. Need to apply silicone spray and attach pull tabs to zippers.

  • Got a 120L, 90L and the 40L Expedition Pro for $150. Should cover all my duffel needs for the foreseeable future.

    • I think you missed one size

      • Two, 50L and 70L.

        • Actually, scratch that, the spread was not even. I cancelled and reordered the 120L, 70L and 40L.

    • Ended up doing the same to use a $150 Karta GC I got from churning utilities. Literally free.

  • Thanks OP. Got the 40L, 70L and 90L. Was tempted about the 120L but probably gonna be too heavy for me when filled up anyway.

  • Seems a good deal. I might go check them out in person tomorrow before buying though.

  • Thanks op got the 120L perfect for iur upcoming cruise the Mrs loves to pack costumes for theme nights and we don't need to fly so this is perfect

  • Do these pack down pretty small? Been thinking of getting a light duffel to stick in my suitcase and check as a second bag if I end up lugging too much crap on trips.

    • no, not really. pretty rugged and heavy.

  • Thanks OP.

  • Thanks OP, grabbed 2 40L pros. Seems like a reasonable bit of kit

  • Cheers; I got a 90L, 70L and 50L. I really needed a 120L to fit my fly fishing rods in, but one of you bought the last one before I finished my checkout..!

  • I have a nice collection in yellow but i definitely need that Pro Edition now. Thanks OP

  • Thanks OP, got a 50L

  • Thanks OP!

I wanted the 120L (handy for road trips), but it was sold out, so had to settle for 40L, 70L, 90L.

  • Looked at these a couple weeks back, didn't like that the top and sides are waterproof but the bottom doesn't seem to be (top and sides have a coating but the bottom didn't)

  • nice, bought two, gonna pair nicely with my north face jacket on my next trip to Sydney.

  • Thanks OP got 2 pro and 1 70L for camping.

  • ahh I was too slow - 90L is out, 40L teal is out (only purple) - next time buy first think later ;)

    • next time buy first think later

      This is the Ozbargain way.

  • Fine I'll get one

  • I got the canary one. Inspecting it, the bottom is a bit stained with black dye, I can kinda expect that since dyeing requires a lot of time to dry and even after its dry there can be run-off. I don't know if that's normal/expected or if it can be cleaned off but it's a duffel bag after all. The only stains are on the bottom on the inside so as long as the outside is fine im happy.
The side pockets on the outside have loose openings so if you wear the bag as a backpack, you will have to be selective in what you put in those pockets. You'll have to rely on friction or packing stuff into it to hold things in place.

  • I got the Teal Pro 40l to use as a gear bag for swimming, running, riding events and it arrived today. Folds up nice and small into it's own pocket. A little upgrade from a 99c Woolies shopping bag.

    • I'm pretty impressed with the 40L - that unfolding from its own pocket confused the heck out of me for a couple of minutes, until I worked out it flips over and becomes an end pocket. It folds up small enough, you could stuff it into one end of the 70L when travelling, and you have the 40L as a day pack (or to fill with stuff from your travels).

I kind of wish I had gotten a second one.

If anyone tries the link in the original post, and it looks like the 40L is sold out, it seems to be still available in purple only: https://www.anacondastores.com/en-au/p/mountain-designs-expe…
