  • Doesn't seem like too many hoops for free money.

    • yes

    • There is a monthly Account-Keeping Fee of $5. Assuming you close the account after 60 days, once the $50 is credited, you're only netting $40.

      • Looks like it's free for the first 12 months

      • Last round it was about 1 month only so yeah 1-2 months sounds right

        • The monthly fee is waived for:
          - Customers that deposit at least $2,000 each month
          - Customers under the age of 35 or full-time tertiary students
          - Westpac Choice Concession account holders
          - New to Australia or expatriate customers (for the first 12 months)
          - Customers that link their Choice account to their Rocket Repay Home Loan or Rocket Investment Loan as an offset account (for as long as the account is linked)
          - Customers that open a new Westpac Choice account online (for the first 12 months).

  • Dammm i should have closed mine from previous deal so i can reopen and get another $50

    • any benefit of keeping it open?what about loans

      • extra cashback but i never used it anyway. i'll close them tomorrow

  • TLDR- I got the $50 and then later an offer for another $50.

I did this a few months back. The $5 monthly fee was waived for a year(I recall). I got the $50, did nothing since and after 6-8weeks got another offer to do 30 transactions, of $2 or $3 I forget which, for another $50.
I did the online steps to close the account a few days ago, hopefully that works hassle free.

    • You must:
      - Not have held any transaction account or savings accounts with Westpac in the last 2 years (applies to both account holders for joint accounts)

    • My account closure request completed in 5 days. No need to call or visit a branch, just completed the steps online.

    • where to find the offer for second $50 ?

      • It was sent to me via email.

  • I did business one for $100 few months back, can I still open an everyday account and get this?

    • You must:
      - Not have held any transaction account or savings accounts with Westpac in the last 2 years (applies to both account holders for joint accounts)

      • Thank you I must be blind

      • Would credit card fall under transaction account?

        • I don’t think so

        • Absolutely not

  • For anyone curious, I opened my account on 24 Apr and received the $50 bonus on 11 May.

It also didn’t seem to matter that I currently have a Westpac Worldwide Wallet account and had a Westpac Business One account within the past year.

  • Thanks OP , opened an account.

  • Is westpack the best option for bonus cashbacks like shopback offers, or should i consider someone else?

    • Yes, given they own ShopBack almost all of the extra % deals apply to Westpac cards, whereas only some of them apply to the small banks that Westpac own eg St George

      • Thank you, helpful response

  • Westpac actively covered up child exploitation and trafficking btw. They refused to meet their austrac obligations and impeded investigations.

    • I remember this, did they got fined for 26mil?

  • Opened account on 14 march but haven't received the $50 cashback yet.

    • Yep. Me neither, opened March 13, also open a business account with $100 deposit, supposed to be matched and nothing bonus in that either

      • Did you contact them?

        • Yes. On the chat now and in a battle why them OPs post prompted me to follow up :)

  • Can't believe they have an account keeping fee (I know, but hoops to avoid) in this day and age

  • ING had more, 100$ afaik with referal.

  • Wait for shop back bonus, but I never got my fifty for 30 transactions

  • St George are doing something similar but no account keeping fees: https://www.stgeorge.com.au/personal/bank-accounts/transacti…

    • Bank of Melbourne too: https://www.bankofmelbourne.com.au/personal/bank-accounts/tr…

Can't see anything in the terms that prevents you from opening all three…

      • I've got the $50 from Westpac, waiting on BoM, if it works I'll do st George and Sa as well

      • there aren't any terms, and I've tried this with all 3, but StG and BoM didn't track me for some reason. BankSA did. so I ended up calling them up and they manually gave me a $50 for StG but said that BoM wouldn't be getting anything :( ymmv though

  • I did it last time this was posted and it worked fine for me. Open acct
    Deposit 50
    Do nothing for 2 months
    Received bonus 50
    Withdraw 100
    Close account

Didn't pay any acct fees, it was an easy $50.

    • Shut up and take my money

      • *Shut up and give me money

    • Can you add the $50 into eSaver account to earn interest for 2 months on the $50, whilst waiting for the extra $50 to come in?

      • It's like 30 cents …

        • This is OzB, the place where people log into Trivago on TCB for 10 cents. That 30cents is an upsize.

  • After filling in my info it said i can't sign up online and need to go into a branch with 2 forms of id. cbf

    • I had to do the same. Was easy enough, but still a pain. Luckily they sent me another $50 offer weeks later so ended up with $100 profit.

  • Westpac the worst bank in history. Nothing works smoothly. Backend is stuck in the 90s..everything is clunky as hell.

    • riddled with typos in some signup pages too

  • waste of time. Please visit the branch to verify your ID. Yeah verify deez nuts.

  • Does this work for Westpac choice youth or am I wasting my time?

    • Looks like the same deal for Choice Youth:
      https://www.westpac.com.au/personal-banking/bank-accounts/tr…

      Double your $50 with us!
Open both a Westpac Choice Youth everyday account and an eligible savings account together. Deposit at least $50 into your Choice Youth account within 10 days, and we’ll add $50 to your savings. Ends 30/09/2026

  • Was able to sign up directly from my mobile phone without using a desktop or going in to a branch. Was waiting from one of these deals so I can make use of the atmx near me since the big 4 all have withdrawn their branches

    • Hoping that choice student is also eligible

  • Got the $50 already, easy.

  • need to wait til feb 2028
