Genuine 10-Year Local Warranty: No grey imports here. Both the inverter and batteries come backed by a solid 10-year official warranty with local tech support right here in Australia.

True <10ms Seamless EPS Switching: Unlike other hybrid inverters that take seconds or even minutes to kick in during a power outage, Sofar's UPS-level switching takes less than 10 milliseconds. Your fridge stays cold, your PC stays on, and you won’t even notice the grid went down.

Modular & Future-Proof Battery Design: The Sofar BTS battery uses a smart click-and-stack modular setup. No messy wiring between blocks, a super clean look on your wall, and you can easily add more storage modules later if your energy needs grow.

Smart Monitoring App: Comes with free, lifetime access to their cloud monitoring platform. Track your solar generation, battery status, and savings in real-time straight from your phone.

  • What do you mean “we are back”?

    • We are back with a good valued solution after 30 April — even though the battery rebate has been significantly reduced, MX Energy is still delivering smart solar and battery solutions with outstanding value for Australian homes and businesses.

      • Thanks. Do you have any real installation photos to show how they look?

        • Yes, definitely. You can also refer to the portfolio photos of our past solar and battery projects on our website to get an idea of how the systems look after installation.

If you have a preferred installation location at your property, feel free to send us a photo and we can recommend the most suitable setup for you.

    • BTS DS5 Series

  • No deal with option B - I’ve been getting quotes recently and $7-7.5k is standard for what you’ve mentioned for $8.5k

Option A - the system is too small IMO

    • $7,000–$7,500 is a very good deal. If I were you, I would get the paperwork signed straight away. :)

  • many have given positive reviews on these guys, so-far, so good.
don't sit on the sofar deal, it seems to be ok.

put simply, it IS cheap…won't be as flexible as a sungrow for example, BUT, bung it in, set to self consume and forget about it….
assuming your solar can generate 20kWh a day, which you then use at night, that's at least $4 a day saved in energy (assuming 20c/kWH)…..that's close to $1600 a year…..

or, if you have no solar, if you can charge 2/3rds on the free energy 3 hour window, then that's still $4 a day saved in energy!
charge during free, use during shoulder peak

    • if no solar, you cant install the battery

      • you can, but not at that price…..

  • Great work bringing larger systems out at decent prices despite the rebates!

    • Thanks for your comments. We’re giving homeowners who missed out on the major battery rebate before 30 April another opportunity to install larger battery storage systems at a similar price point. Our goal is to help households become greener, reduce electricity bills, and achieve greater energy independence from the grid.

  • Do you have solar and battery packages. Looking at 13kw and 40 or 50kw battery with 10kw inverter

    • Yes, we offer solar and battery packages using well-known brands such as Sofar and Fox ESS. We can provide systems tailored to your requirements, including 13kW solar with 40+kWh battery storage and a 10kW inverter at the cost of $15k ish.

Please contact us for more details and a customised quote.

  • I recently had a 50 kWh GoodWe battery system installed in my double-storey house, including a 10 kW inverter, for $10,500 in Victoria. Is this a good price?

    • Dunno, presumably you did research before signing the contract and having it installed?

    • Good for you.
      Wish I hadn't got f-ed around.

    • TBH, it’s a very good price. Most people won't get the same setup at this price point after 30th of April.

  • It is a very competitive price, but I would caution anyone buying a system with only a 5kW inverter and thinking they are going to "smash your quarterly electricity bills" or have an "Expected Payback Period: ~2 to 2.5 years".
It's a bit disingenuous to market these phrases alongside a 5kW inverter because it is quite unlikely that either of these statements will be true.

Even with a large PV array, because of the limitation of the 5kW inverter, you won't be able to push much into the battery. It would take over 6 hours to fill a 30kWh battery - so that limits the usefulness of energy retailers like Globird or Ovo (with their 3 or 4 hour free electricity windows) or your PV array would have to be so large that it is still producing >5kW from 9am to 3pm in Winter.

Of course, if you don't use much of your battery, then it doesn't need to be filled up so much, but if you are using so little then the sums on a battery in the first place make less sense in terms of ROI.

Inverter sizing aside - I do like that they define "Metro Sydney" as being within 150km of Strathfield - so picks up Wollongong and Central Coast no problems.

    • Thanks for the detailed feedback.

The advertised payback period is based on ideal usage scenarios and average consumption profiles, but we agree that actual results will vary significantly depending on household load, usage patterns, tariff structure, and how the system is configured.

A 5kW inverter can absolutely become a bottleneck, particularly when paired with a large-capacity battery such as 30kWh. As you mentioned, charging speed is limited, especially during winter or when trying to take advantage of 3-4 hours free-energy windows from retailers like Globird or OVO.

For customers with higher energy usage, EV charging, or larger battery storage requirements, we generally recommend considering a larger hybrid inverter (such as 10kW or even bigger) to better utilise both the solar generation and battery capacity.

We do appreciate your comments, and it’s good to see informed discussion around realistic system performance rather than headline marketing figures alone.

And yes — our “Metro Sydney” coverage is intentionally broad enough to include areas like Wollongong and the Central Coast.

  • This probably cost double in WA.

    • Please contact the local WA installers, probably not that much.

  • 🏷️Hey OzBargainers, BTW we do the FOX ESS battery at the same cost~Please reach out for details.

    • Your DM's are off btw. How much is the smallest 6.6kW solar install on top of either option.

      • Thanks for the reminder. I have enbled the DM now.

For a standard 6.6kW panels, pricing is generally from $3k–$4k depending on panel brand and roof layout, etc.

Feel free to reach out and we can put together a proper quote based on the setup you’re after.

  • How is this compared to Fox ESS 30kWh EP11 Battery system?

    • People have different preferences when it comes to battery and inverter brands, and both options have their own advantages.

Both systems are high-voltage, parallelly connected, and feature a slim design suitable for narrow pathway installations.

The Fox ESS EP11 is wall-mounted, while the Sofar system is ground-mounted.

In terms of market presence, Sofar has been in the Australian market for around 12 years, whereas Fox ESS entered Australia in 2024 but became the most popular battery brand in year 2025.

Fox ESS batteries are currently compatible with selected VPP (Virtual Power Plant) platforms, while Sofar is not yet officially compatible. However, Sofar has advised that VPP compatibility is expected in the near future.

    • Please be advised that we supply and install both Sofar and Fox ESS EP11 batteries. :)

  • Do you offer Goodwe ?

    • yes we do Goodwe batteries.

    • Thanks, we will get back to you shortly.

  • What’s the price for a 50kwh battery with 10/15kw inverter? Thanks. Solar already here. Thanks.

    • For a 50kWh battery system with a 10kW/15kW inverter, pricing generally starts from around $13k–$14k installed.
