  • Is there any easier way to see what reward seats are available across the board? Have points and curious to see where I can go versus just selected specific routes to see

      • Just for info, thats international only, so no help for this deal. And in reality useless for International as well, as you cant filter directly to Qantas flights, so mainly only see Emirates

        • It's far from useless for international. But i do agree that it needs airline filtering. I get the same problem with Jetstar flights clogging up the results.

          • @Hellfire: There is no filtering as it would show there are no Qantas flights on offer for International routes

          • @Hellfire: I’ve found it incredibly useful for looking for new places to go using points in my available time periods. Something actually good from QF after all their fails.

Coops1 just set stops to direct only if you only want to see QF or JQ flights

            • @zfind: It's not from Qantas though… they literally just acquired the tool from Gyoza :)

              • @JHoliday: Better than us not having it. Was the Gyoza iteration paid or free?

                • @zfind: Gyoza was paid

Qantas acquired it from the developer because it was better than what they could have developed in house

Gyoza tool has a couple of additional features still, such as flight alerts which Qantas hasn’t implemented

                  • @JHoliday: Thanks for the info. It’s a very nice tool, I think it’s great being offered for free.

        • Might create a scraper to fix this… It's all raw HTML so very easily done. Just filter out anything that doesn't have the Qantas logo.

Cloudflare gonna get annoyed with my thousands of outgoing requests, but yolo.

Edit: https://flightrewardfinder.qantas.com/?pg=1&o=MEL&ob=timesta… I found desc via timestamp (last checked) works well - seems they check Emirates flights much more regularly.

Edit 2: Has cloudflare capture, would need to run a headless browser with captcha solver… Ew

    • Same query - would make life a lot easier if this was a feature. Hope the developers are reading comments. Sigh!

  • Dang just booked reward flight yesterday

      • There's like a 6k qantas pts cancellation fee per ticket though, if you booked a reward seat that is.

        • my adl to melb flight recent cancellation was 2k points camcellation fee one way, iirc

          • @Jacuzzi: The current reward flight change and cancellation fees are listed at https://www.qantas.com/au/en/frequent-flyer/discover-and-joi…

            Cancellation Fee for Flight Rewards
            6,000 Qantas Points per passenger.
If the Qantas Points redeemed for the Classic Plus Flight Reward are less than the Cancellation Refund Fee per passenger then the Qantas Points redeemed per passenger will apply as the Cancellation Refund Fee.
Note: Cancellation Refund Fees do not apply if you are entitled to a refund under the Conditions of Carriage or the Australian Consumer Law.

            Change Fee for Flight Rewards
            5,000 Qantas Points per passenger.

Where changes are made to Flight Rewards via Qantas Contact Centres, Service Fees (below) are payable in addition to the Change Fee.

The cancellation penalty increased from 5000 points to 6000 back in December 2016.

        • Not if you cancel within 24 hours. I've cancelled multiple reward flights for full refunds.

We know that plans change. So, if you're a Qantas Frequent Flyer and you make an eligible flight booking directly with us, you can cancel your flights free of charge within 24 hours

          https://www.qantas.com/en-au/manage-booking/cancel-for-any-r…

          • @eecan: Yeah I did that in November, cancelled in 6 hours but they deducted 6k pts per ticket. Flight to Haneda.

            • @mikuno: Should contact support for a refund then.

            • @mikuno: The Qantas Cancel for any reason webpage is pretty shit for not explicitly clarifying about reward flights. I've had this question myself and assumed that the cancellation penalty (in points) still applies.

This Reddit thread had a person getting changed the 6,000 point cancellation penalty but they were later able to get the points back, after a typically painful support experience.

I would not be at all surprised if the system automatically still applies the cancellation penalty within 24 hours of booking and people are only refunded the 6000 points if they chase for them.

              • @OnlyHans: It definitely does (or did not) not require manual intervention in all circumstances because I've cancelled multiple rewards flights within the last few years online and got full refunds without talking to anyone.

That being said looking at the conditions there are some that might catch people out, so unlike what I said earlier, not just a 24 hour window.

To be eligible for fee-free cancellation, you must meet all of the following criteria:
-you're a Qantas Frequent Flyer with your Frequent Flyer number added to the booking,
-you booked directly with us at qantas.com, the Qantas App or through our Contact Centre,
-you made your booking less than 24 hours ago,
-the first flight booked departs in 30 days or more,
-the first flight originates from an Australian city, and
-the booking has been paid in full and the ticket has been issued.

You won't be eligible if any of the following apply:
-the booking is for an unaccompanied minor,
-the booking has been previously changed or reissued,
-you used a Flight Credit or a Buy Now, Pay Later option to pay for the booking, or
-one or more passengers were split from the original booking.

                • @eecan: Good to know you haven't had any difficulties with avoiding the 6,000 point penalty when cancelling a reward flight within 24 hours.

The clause "the first flight booked departs in 30 days or more" will preclude it in a lot of cases, but is understandable.

    • I booked last week :(

  • I just booked rewards seats last Friday and the exact same flights are the exact same amount today…. down down?

    • Rates are lower for the flights I checked in March 2027

    • Was it a domestic flight?

    • Were they perhaps classic plus?

    • You just you're using Qantas points and not Flybuys?

      • It was for an international flight using Qantas points "Classic" fare. Just rechecked : same amount of points : same taxes. Flight is end of July 2026

        • This is for dom flights only.

          • @nightelves: ah ffs… ok my bad… missed that part…

            • @pointnlarf: ahhh i made the same mistake following this thread thinking how dodgy Qantas is….. hahah

  • when will rewards seats for May 2027 be released? can only see reward seats up to end of April 2027

    • never knowing Qantas.

    • They typically add new dates 11.5 months before flight dates.

  • Ah yes, after riaisng the prices by over 20%
Oh well, I'll take what I can.

  • Y seats - Not interested

    • what does that mean?

      • Simply in terms of ¢/point of value it's the worst for flights (ie excl toasters or gift cards) while long haul J or F is the best though obviously harder to get and all that.

        • Simply in terms of ¢/point of value it's the worst for flights

Not necessarily, the thing is that classic rewards redemption rates are based on distance, not on the price for the base fare.

What you're saying is likely true of the super competitive routes like MEL-SYD, but there are plenty of more obscure domestic routes which are super expensive because of a lack of competition, but small distance.

          • @p1 ama:

            obscure domestic routes

I recall Lord Howe being a famous example but are there really that many non-FIFO regional routes that would be relevant to majority of people?

            • @vawiyoci:

are there really that many non-FIFO regional routes that would be relevant to majority of people?

Relevance would depend on the individual, I suppose. However, the "cents per point" measure is objective.

Example is Melbourne to Broome, this is currently 18,600 points + $149 in Y (including the sale), and prices are around $700 for a cash fare. This works out to be around 3c / pt, which is fairly decent overall.

      • Y = Econony Class.
        J = Business Class.
        F = First Class.

  • Valid for flights operated by Jetstar?

    • Nope, needs a QF flight number.

      • It's valid for jetstar flights booked through Qantas

        • T&C:

To receive the 20% discount, all flights in your Trip must be eligible Classic Flight Rewards. … Eligible Classic Flight Rewards are Qantas operated Economy Classic Flight Rewards with a ‘QF’ flight number within Australia,

          • @igorekh: I just booked a flight from Melbourne to Gold Coast via Qantas flying jetstar for 11,000 points plus $37 in taxes in Jan 2027.

            Did the same for return.

            Both flying with Jestar.

            • @Duece1995: 11,000 points is the normal price for Jetstar on MEL-OOL. You could have booked that at any time.

Only the Qantas flights have been reduced (11,000 points instead of 13,800).

  • Thought I was going crazy, title changed to Domestic Only

  • Is the discount applied on flight selection, or do you have to fill out everything and get to the checkout?

    • The points prices you see when searching for flights already have the discount applied (provided they're eligible). You don't have to do anything.

  • Is the flight to Coco island and Christmas Island worth redemption?

  • Using points for economy rewards seats is never "hot" its just bad use of points.

    • how should points be used?

      • Business or First gives massively more value for point vs $ cost
