Sorry to hijack - Would a second hand Switch OLED be worth still purchasing today if a good deal? I'm finding it hard to justify the price of Switch 2, and also cheap games like this and massive back catalogue make the choice even harder.

i think the original or Oled is still a very valid unit. there are only like 20 games that are exclusive to the switch 2.

My friend who has a switch 2 has basically only ever used the original switch games in his anyway.

can pick up switches for $100 and oleds for $150 easily on marketplace..

      • $150 is cheap!

I'm picking up a near new OLED for $300. In its box, case, 3 games, memory card, pro controller. Is it a good deal?

This will be for my kids to muck around on too btw.

just keep an eye out. i picked one up for $200 which included 4 games and extra pair of joycons. got to get in quick as well as marketplace things sell fast when a good deal comes up.

all depends on what games. things like mario kart, party, animal farm etc are worth like $40-50 a pop. so if your getting premium games could be worth it.
also just be aware that if your only ever going to be docking it into the TV, there is no noticeable difference between the original and OLED, from my research the main difference between the two are better kickstand and marginally bigger screen (of course better screen as well).

other option is to get an early switch that can be hacked. what you do with a hacked one i dont want to know…

          • @Aazn: Thanks
Games are Zelda TOTK, MK Deluxe 8 and Mario Jamboree

@punkel: easily $100-150 worth of games if you wanted to flip them. so would say that's a $150 switch technically. depends how you look at it.

          • @Aazn: I think from what I know (correct me if I am wrong) there were 3 versions of the original Switch.

The first one, well was the first one.

Then in 2019 they launched a revision with a more efficient SoC so it got better battery life.

Then the third version was the one with the larger OLED display and some changes to the stand.

            • @Tea-Aholic: You could be right. all I know is the original ones they split into 2 categories. the ones you could hack and the ones you couldn't. maybe there was another revision with what your saying. but with the price they are going for now second-hand can't really complain. also battery replacements are about $30 if you are keen to have a crack.

I rarely ever use mine handheld now. permanently docked to the tv, the kids own it now… until they fight…

      • Been eyeing on the OLED ones for two weeks now in VIC, lowest I see is $200 and mostly cuz something is missing or not working. Hope to find the best deal. I think its $250 average in Melb. but yeah as someone looking to grab a second had OLED this kind of info helps

        • What’s your reasoning for going the second hand OLED mate? Good to see someone else in the same mind frame haha

    • -1

Don't see why not. Not a lot of reason to rush out and buy a S2 imho.

      • -2

nintendogs is raising s2 pricing apparently. also s2 can backwards comptabile and run all s1 games at 1080p resolution… thats about it

    • +2

I wouldn‘t get a Switch OLED console unless you really want a handheld OLED screen Switch or can get it real cheap.
You can also play this game or any other Switch games on Switch 2 though.

    • +1

Go one step further and get a modded oled.

    • If you have an existing switch it's probably worth saving the money in the kitty for 2 or a 2 OLED (when they come out) and just waiting, unless you can get a good deal. I can't even justify a 2 yet though tbh. So much life and fun on switch 1.

        I don’t currently have a switch.

Personally, I purchased a switch 2 on release date (mainly to finish TOTK on it, and play MKworld) and after finishing TOTK and playing some mkword, I decided to sell it for a few reasons:
      1. Gamekey games. This is personal preference, but the amount of games that are essentially a code in the box (but on the cartridge) is crazy. Devs have all sorts of reasons for doing it, some supposedly performance related, but I only buy physical games because I expect they will always work, which is not necessarily the case for game key games (if the servers are shut down).
      2. Lack of games. There are a few that kind of interested me but beyond DK, Zelda and Mk, not much else.
      3. The screen. I'm not sure if everyone will agree, but to me the screen on the switch 2 is a smeary mess and should NEVER have been marketed as "120hz". Sure it can process a signal for 120hz, but it can only actually refresh at the equivalent of a 30hz monitor, which means there is lots of ghosting. Coming from a switch OLED it felt like a huge downgrade in terms of clarity.
I still have my switch OLED and I'm happily playing through my pile of shame

      Got a switch 2 for $495 with a $200 cashback deal a while ago.

If you can get a switch 2 for $200 more then it will save you having to upgrade later.

      • Nintendo is usually excluded from discounts/ cash back. Which cash back are you referring to?

  • Thinking to get this, but is there a time limit to collect?

    • depends on ur eb games level

      • +1

That's for preorders not click and collect

    • +1

It says online they will hold it for up to 6 weeks before cancellation. But it might be at the stores discretion.

just placed an order for copy of PJ Masks for $15.
great deal considering it is like $70 retail.

  • +1

Huh, had no idea this game got a sequel. First one was good!

  • Is this a game key card or digital download?

    • +1

      No. Its a physical catridge.

      • Thanks - ordered!

    • Switch games don’t have Game Key Cards, and if it was a digital download code it will say so clearly in the listing (as well as mentioning it at the bottom of the box)

  • +1

    This is a great game.

  • I usually love Metroidvanias, but for some reason this didn't land with me. Little bit of an initial learning curve I suspect.

  • +1

Great price, but shipping ruined it :(

  • The first game is much better IMO
