    As much as I'm tempted to recommend a dozen other better games, Catan is certainly worth owning at this price.

      I always get overwhelemed when i go into board game shops and rarely walk out with anything.

        The only game every holdhouse needs is Dune Imperium, a little more complex than your beginner-friendly game like Catan, but it will be the one you will ever need.

          Dune Imperium is so good, has become a staple at our games nights such that Catan and others rarely get played. So well-balanced and strategic.

            @zfind: Ya for Catan once u start losing there's almost no way to have a come back, just have to endure the rest of the game without any fun

              @iori57: I go chaos mode and start doing very uneven trades to help the person I want to win, usually doesn’t go down well at my table 😄

        I would suggest you offer a bit about what you enjoy in games or are angling for in the experience so you get more tailored recommendations as there's a wealth of board games for people of any interest and level. I would also suggest you look up local groups as there are quite a number of them around.

        Looks like the version that came out in English was 1996; the German version was 1995.
        I first played in 2007, from memory.

    PSA: This is 5th edition. It will only work with other 5th edition expansions.

    6th edition is already out and all the expansions are getting updated to match. Meaning if you decide to upgrade your 5th edition game down the line, you will have to resort to second hands.

    And yes, if you plan to play Catan more than twice, you should seriously consider getting an expansion (Cities and Knights is very good). The base game gets boring quickly.
