      Man, I got 42kw for $6500 before the rebate. Only thing is the new house i am building will not have a bigger unit that cheap. Having said that, you can't go wrong with a bigger unit. That extra kw is what you would sell during peak hours and make $$$. And it is a struggle to charge EV on 42kw let alone lower capacity

      Damn, this is cheap. Is there any additional subsidies paid by Vic Govt, or is it all the commonwealth battery subsidy?

      I missed the cutoff for the higher commonwealth subsidy because of install delays, but if we're potentially looking at sharp pricing like this, I'm glad that I've waited it out.

        Its not that good compared to before may. I got mine for $5500 42kw.

        I think if you call around you could get the 30kw for 6k now.

          My most recent post-April quote was almost $19k for 41.93kwh CQ6 with 7.5kwh of panels also being installed. Brand new system, not an upgrade.

            @Ryan-H: that was too expensive before May. My friends got 13kw or 17kw panels with 15kw inverter/48kwh fox battery for that price. $15k or $18k.
            Well its now about $5k more expensive but.

      Yes, solar is required to get the federal rebate.

      You can install batteries without solar, but to access the current federal rebate the battery does need to be connected to an eligible solar system.

      If you already have solar installed, adding battery storage is usually pretty straightforward. If not, we can also quote combined solar + battery packages.

    Just and fyi to anyone considering. I live in Sydney with an eq4800 system and 10kw inverter installed in October. It works pretty well but as I head into first winter I’ve noticed charging can be a lot slower when cold and this would be likely more evident in Melbourne.

      Can you please check your BMS firmware version? Fox Cloud App > Devices > Battery > Click on the Serial Number below the image of the battery > What is your Version_BMS?

          New enough, many people were on 2.006 and 2.008 which caused much more cold weather throttling

          FWIW i'm in Vic and haven't seen my battery throttle yet this year, it drops to max 12kw charge/discharge when the lowest battery cell temp drops below 16c and below 11c it drops to I believe 8kw?
          However I haven't had it drop below 11c thus far however I got mine installed in a garage workshop for this reason

          Last year these temps would have had it charging/discharging at a max of 4kw so big improvement since then!

        I have BMS ver 2.016. However, my Min. SOC is at 20% and I wanted to change it to 10% as these days there is hardly any sun in Sydney. App says "write failed", cant change it. How do I do that?

            @Brick50: Got it! I had to change the "Backup Cut-off SOC" which was set at 20%. Once I lowered that to 15%, I could then updated Min SOC to 15%.
            Turned out Min. SOC value can not be lower than the backup cut-off SOC.

      Check to see if battery heating is enabled. Create a support ticket, mine triggers at 7 deg and stops at 13 deg. Living in cbr.

    VIC power savers needs to hire some staff, nobody replies to support emails, trying to call goes straight to voicemail

    They don't seem to have a dedicated support contact, just an info email address that falls into a black hole unless you want to order a system, existing customer and having issues. Fox said to contact installer, I have just emailed them for assistance

    My advice, read reviews of this installer including my very detailed feedback.

    Also the Eq4800 doesn't have heating and in Victoria if installed outside it will throttle. This has destroyed my payback calculations because I didn't factor this in. Has happened twice and it's not even winter yet. Only applies if you install outside.

    After lots of reading and following along with the Fox ESS Facebook group, I now know the shortfalls on my install.

    1. Lazy installer did not cut and reterminate DC power cables. Just used the full length out of the box
    2. Skimped on mechanical protection of DC power cables where it's technically non compliant but the inspector passed compliance. No cable cover on the DC terminals at the inverter and the battery. Super short piece of conduit used. Long length of DC cable dangling behind the battery stack. I didn't see this earlier and trusted the inspector would have seen this and called this out. But they didn't.
    3. Sticker placement is supposed to be on the wall and not on the battery.

    Battery is working though and compared to disasters other Fox ESS installers have left customers with, this mob isn't the worst but is far from the best.

    The CQ batteries have heating I believe and in built fire suppression. Heating is a must for battery installations outside. When my battery throttled it was a cold 6C morning and even by 11am when Globird free charging window starts, the battery was still not warm enough to charge quickly. Was maxing out at 1.5kw despite having a 5kw inverter. And guess what, even if you had the 10kw inverter you'd still be throttled down to the very same 1.5kw. It did warm up gradually so by close to 2pm it was probably charging at 3kw.

      I didn't know about the throttling. I just checked mine for today and it's charged up to 95% over 3 hours from 35% so I guess I did experience some throttling

      The key difference is the other deal is built around the older EP11 platform, whereas our offer is based on the newer EQ4800 platform.

      While EP11 is still a functional battery system, it’s older architecture with a lower cycle life (~4,000 cycles vs 6,000+ on EQ), and for larger-capacity systems EP11 generally requires a much larger installation footprint due to the way the system is configured.

        Since the reduced rebate from 1st of May, the ROI on the 42kWh EQ4800 battery is not so good anymore, better to stick to the smaller 28kWh size, unless of course you have lots of money and want 40+kWh battery, you would probably consider the more advanced Sigenergy.
