  • 5w-30 gf-s is $41.79 for 5l aswell.

    A litre extra….

Autobarn also have the 5L GW 0w-30 for $40.

    • Nice find. Ta! will get this instead

    • And this one is 6L for same price

    • was this on sale then. showing $90 now

  • Also consider this:
    https://www.reddit.com/r/CarsAustralia/s/aJQXijc5Hp
Summary: 5W-30 is a better oil in most applications, especially as the engine starts to get a bit older…..

    • For hybrids, the thinner the better. You burn through an extra litre or two over 6 months, but I've found that you get an extra 0.5L/100km saving, which ends up paying for the price difference.

I normally get the 0w16 when sparesbox has it for around ~$55 incl postage, but this here is a great price

      • How about health of the engine / future costs due to that?

Thinner oil = lower oil pressure at temp

        • It doesn't really matter if its thinner or thicker, its not so hard to stick to what the manufacturer has specced. If you cant be bothered to find out what it is, go to your dealer parts department and they'll tell you what you need based on your rego.

We're all just keyboard engineers here, shouldn't really engineer your own car specs

          • @Fuzor: Wdym it does not matter? It does

Manufacturer does not only have your best interests at heart they are also trying to meet emissions spec. That is often the main reason for these crazy thin oils

            • @Boioioioi: When your engine has an issue outside of warranty and the dealer no longer has a legal obligation to help you then the manufacturer is who you will be turning to. They wont have your best interest at heart then when they do the oil analysis and find that you have engineered up with your own brilliant ideal oil formulation

              • @Fuzor: I don't think the manufacturer would help you outside of warranty? Goodwill is rare especially if you havent been going to the dealer

          • @Fuzor: Can't speak for all brands, but Toyota's hybrid engines are rated for a wide range of viscosities. The 2.5L in the RAV4, Camry and Kluger can use anything from from 0W-16 to 5W-30 for example.

            • @Dogsrule: Yep I've been down this rabbit hole and even raised it with the dealership, they use 5W-30 in the RAV Hybrid and told me that's what Toyota recommended. The manual says 0w-16 or 0w-20.

              • @EightImmortals:

The manual says 0w-16 or 0w-20

We have the very same RAV4 hybrid, so I checked the manual on Pg 376. Here are the permitted oil viscosities:

                0W-16
                0W-20
                5W-20
                5W-30
                10W-30 ( I forgot about that one)

they use 5W-30 in the RAV Hybrid and told me that's what Toyota recommended

Our dealership also used some Castrol 5W-30 stuff in our RAV4. The manual says that 0W-16 is 'Preferred', whatever that means. I've never been concerned about them using 5W-30, the engine seems good as new after 5 years. My Prius has done over 400K on mostly 5W-30 despite the factory fill being 5W-20.

      • So that's y it burns oil faster than others

    • Reddit's bloated with misinformation on motor oil basics. Better off turning to bobistheoilguy and such.

0w20 can have better wear ratings and results than 5w30 oils. Modern tight tolerances, VVT and the conditions where most engine wear takes place (usually when starting) often mean a thinner oil can be better for longevity. Especially in a hybrid!

Just refer to your owner's manual and sleep tight. There isn't some grand emissions conspiracy taking place here, plenty of automotive engineers will happily tell you some cars ought to be run on the 0w20 oils they were designed around.

  • is there any similar product for motobikes 10W40 ? on special ?

  • This is the alternative. https://autobarn.com.au/ab/Autobarn-Category/Shop-our-Full-R…
I highly suggest to check if your car needs ACEA rating. The standard 0w-20 version always go on discount but you might be doing real damage to your engine when you service yourself to try save a buck and only buy whats on special without doing enough research on what you should be buying

  • Get what y'all can because motor oil prices soon going ⬆️📈

  • Anyone seen any deals 20w-50? Looking for my motorcycle. Thank you

  • Further 10% off in EDR with woolies gift cards
