RYOBI USB Lithium Telescopic Power Scrubber 2Ah Kit $99 (Was $129) + Delivery ($0 C&C / in-Store) @ Bunnings

640

Just my luck, paid $129 6 weeks ago, and the price dropped 2 days ago:(

I bought this mainly for the lower shower & shower floor, as I am not as bendy as I once was, and my knees are stuffed. Also good for cleaning the bath tub I never use. It will also get some use on the windows outside.

The 3 bigger brushes are 90mm diameter and are hard, medium and soft. Conical brush is 65mm at its widest. High speed is 400rpm, low is 275rpm The high speed rpm is just where fling of is just slightly starting. It is IPX7 rated.

I have only used it twice so far, but my early impressions are;

Surprisingly powerful. Even when putting a lot of pressure on it, it just slows down a bit on both high and low speed settings.
Very light weight and compact. 1060 grams with battery and brush on my scales.
Can confirm any 1/4 hex drill style brush will fit.
Supplied brushes should cover most jobs.
Only minor annoyance is the on/off and speed switches are on the head rather than the handle.

Not a ton of stock around with many stores nil, and none at all in WA. Stock checker https://bunnings.youinstock.com.au/search/1046012

i don't have the larger one but the reviews on Bunnings are good. 4.4 stars from 558 reviews

I didn't buy that one as I always thought it was too large for my needs.

I have the handheld version of the 18v one, I'd say it's ok. It's limited by only one speed and one direction, and no corner brush attachments come standard from Ryobi (easy to mock something up with a 3D printer). Better than attaching the head to a drill and trying to manage ridiculous RPMs and hold the trigger down

Good enough that I wanted to buy the long handled one but not at $200 skin only, so I paid $400 instead for an EZ-Reach gutter blower and the gutter brush attachment head. It uses the same triangle shape as the power scrubbers so you can attach the heads, but the depths are slightly off so you need to shim the scrubber head for a tight fit. It's too long this way for general household cleaning, but good for exterior walls and such

The actual power scrubbers though are completely waterproof, my hacked solution isn't, but I can clean a heck of a lot higher

  • Lithium Telescopic

  • Buy another one and return on original receipt.

Cheers, had thought of that, but as annoying as the price drop is, it's not worth the stuffing around and the time to do it.

If you have onepass and you do get to Bunnings every now and then you could get the new one delivered for free and bring it back on the old receipt up to 365 days later.

23% discount isn't huge, but that'll probably pay for a loaf of bread and a carton of milk at colesworths /s

        • And a packet of winnie bluezz

  • How does it compare to this $30 version? https://www.bunnings.com.au/mistral-telescopic-power-scrubbe…
Or to those scrubbing brush attachments for electric drills?

    • +1

Would need a telescopic handle and some way of keeping a drill on while away from you to be comparable. Different use case.

More similar to the power scrubber but uses 1/4 hex attachments, so capable of connecting more things to it.

I had seen the Mistral one on the website but decided on the Ryobi for the 6 yr warranty, the replaceable battery and the free delivery. The Mistral is in store only where I live.

Using a drill works, but they almost all spin too fast even on low speed, meaning you are constantly using part trigger to slow it down to avoid fling off, which gets old quickly. Plus most drill are not waterproof.

This spins at 400rpm on high and at that speed with the supplied 90mm brushes, it is borderline starting to get fling off. And drill don't have a long handle:)

      • Thanks. Can you comment on the size of the brushes included in the Ryobi one? Does it take a lot of passes to clean an area? They look smallish in the photos and I'm thinking it might be like a narrow mower vs a wider one.

        • +1

No worries, the supplied brushes are 90mm in soft, hard and medium. Press on it a bit and the brushes are more like 110-120mm contacting the floor

The conical brush is 65mm at its widest.

My shower floor is 950mm x 950mm so doesn't take long, and the bathtub is even quicker as it's just a quick swish around.

  • I have a Hoto version I bought from Costco which works well. The angle is not adjustable but I don’t need it for my bathroom.

With any of these things it is important to find out cost and availability of replacement brushes.

  • If only they made a bbq cleaner version. I just bought a no name of Amazon.

So to remove old bird poo from bricks? Yes?

    How long is the handle?
Would it be enough to reach 2nd floor windows?

  • Just tested: the battery is small and do not last long (15 min/10 min on max). It doesn't warm you about low battery quick enough so as it loses power it would not scrub with pressure. For the price, i would expect two batteries to come with it - it's a very small lithium plastic cilinder with USB-c port on top. This is not with Ryobi standard batteries. Charging speed is okish.

The rotation speed is slow even on max but with the attachments and chemicals it does the job. Bought to remove mold from bathroom ceilings, clean bathroom walls, tiles and bathtub and top windows @3m height. I'm tall so I can do it without stairs now.

    • Appreciate your feedback. It only helps others making a decision.

Yes this on Ryobi's 4V platform. Which to the best of my knowledge is a single 18650 cell. So really only 3.6V after any load is applied. And yes there is no external light to indicate charge level. In my experience with cordless tools though, when I notice a speed drop off, I just swap batteries at that point. I almost never notice the led"s on the battery anyway.

To be fair though, Ryobi do state up to 18 mins runtime. But that would be on low speed, so on high I would expect what you found. I have not so far had to run mine for long enough to flatten the battery yet..

A far as the rotational speed on max, it is borderline starting to fling off. So any faster it would just throw any chemical or cleaning agent away. So I reckon they got that right.

I have couple of tools from this line, so I do have spare batteries I can use if needed, but an extra battery is only $30 if you want one.

I sincerely hope you are not overly disappointed, as I really don't ever want to give bad advice:)

      • Not disappointed - I'm just highlighting some things people may not realise in a quick glance. The machine does achieve its purpose. However, imo, and for 100 bucks, it should have come with or a spare battery or a longer duration (it's a cheapo lithium anyway). I may finish all my windows in the standard mode, let's see.

Forgot to mention that I could also be lighter - missus found it heavy but it seems robust to me.

I would still go with this compare to a Temu one I saw on Coles recently - bunnings easy replacement and warranty worth it for us.

  • small enough to fit in the crapper?, got some heavy-duty skid marks that need removing.

But I have very hard water, and the limescale is an absolute pain to remove. Having to use hydrochloric acid every so often isn't particularly safe.
I had a "seen on tv" one of these that fit, but eventually died. A decent replacement would be nice.

    • Vinegar dissolves limescale and so does Coke - 2L of either is very cheap, just pour it in every so often.

    • I find Hillmark Scalex is great for the occasional cleaning of the toilet bowl to clear out deposits from hard water.

For more regular cleaning of marks/streaks on the side, I find White King Toilet Gel to be quite good - with no scrubbing required. Apply and leave for a bit, you may be able to get away without scrubbing.
