TCL Tab 8 Tablet and TCL 502 Smartphone Bundle $199 C&C/In-Store Only @ Officeworks

330

Seems like a pretty cheap deal for a phone and tablet. Can’t talk much for the quality of either devices but could be useful for a spare phone or tablet.

Limited stock in a lot of stores but the Officeworks website indicates several stores still have stock.

  • 2GB+ 4GB Virtual Ram

wow, what a waste of lithium

I'm sure this is a great deal for someone, but I'm surprised these devices are even imported

    • Yeah this is like a phone shaped object. Bet Android chugs like crazy.

    • so basically 2gb ram lol ewaste like this should be banned lol

    • Basically 2GB of ram you're running one app. As soon as you switch apps the app you were on will be closed. Going back to your original app it'll have to reload everything. Not to mention it's going to be noticeably slowly to load.

Absolute minimum to run is 4GB in 2026 to be somewhat proficient, recommend at least 6GB and above and your phone will run much smoother with app transitions.

    • 2GB wasn't great 10 ago years (Galaxy S6 came out over 10y ago had 3G)

    • Yeah pure trash

  • Please don't get this phone, for yourself or a loved one.

For reference, ozb debates if 8 GB or 16 should be the minimum. Personally I fall on the 16 side of the argument.

    8 is passable though.

4 is really not good enough for daily use.

2 is…. Well as best tech advisor said above…

    A waste of lithium

    • Agreed. Do you have a suggestion on what to get under $250?

      • Honestly depends if you need it TODAY or within 1- 6 months.

Just from a quick check, id recommend something like (not sorted by any order, just by when found them).

        TODAY:
        Xiaomi Poco M7 Currently $212.17

        Within 1-6 months:
Motorola g86, was previously on sale Dec 2025 was $210 - Currently $295
Motorola Edge 50 Fusion, was previously on sale Dec 2025 was $259.46 - Currently $371.77
XIAOMI Redmi Note 15, Currently $309.48

TLDR: It depends when ya need it, but if you can hold out a bit, you should be able to get a mid range phone for ~$250, I recommend XIAOMI Redmi series, Samsung A series, Motorola, Oppo series :)

        • Just logged in to upvoter and tell you to keep being awesome. Actual helpful advice on the internet in 2026. I don't even need it but couldn't pass by without saying thankyou for being awesome.

    • I'm looking for tablet deals since I'm struggling to get two demanding apps (like chrome + a game) working simultaneously on iPad with 4GB RAM for iPadOS. Now imagine having 4GB or less for Android lol

  • As others already commented on RAM so I won't repeat the points.

But 64Gb of storage, in 2026, is like…8-10 apps max. Barely any space left for pictures and stuff.

So yeah just to reiterate: massive waste of lithium…

    • And 64GB is incorrect, it's actually 32GB in the phone lol

    • Yeah but the phone/tablet wasn't from 2026 XD

    • I have a 128GB phone (and 128GB cloud storage), I have 151 apps installed and have 63.5GB free storage. So this comment in very inaccurate.

At 64GB you can install like 100 apps. Maybe 50apps and 32GB for your other stuff. Not every mobile app except few mainstream ones or games need many GBs of space

  • Nah, the real deal was the 11" bundle for $249.
    $199 seems expensive

  • ewaste. youre better off buying a flagship device like an s20 or mid-range like reno4/5 on ebay.

the only advantage with these devices is the warranty

    • I'm still on my S9… Still ok!

      • Me 2. No updates though so risky?

      • Custom ROMs?

        • Thanks

    • Still using an S20 FE with a new battery I replaced myself. Awesome phone apart from no 3.5mm jack.

  • TCL - The Cheap Life

    • Terribly Crap Lah..

    • But their TV seems fine, their latest SOD-miniLED more expensive than OLED lol

    • Haha.. their nxtpaper phones are ok

  • just ordered, thanks. the phone will be used for my spare sim card and I can giveaway the tablet to elder family members.

    • Good luck to you and your family. I wish you all the best

    • If for spare phone, wait for a Motorola deal that popup here every few months. Or check Amaysim for one.

      Forget about the tablet.

  • You're better off just buying the Nubia phone at this point for $100 outright from Optus.

    • Is that still on sale with the free earphones? The deal was listed as ending April 4 or something, but when J bought mine they were packaged together. A great phone and earphones for the price, unbeatable value

    • Offer expired already.

  • Might be worth for $100 both

  • Mediatek helio A22 SOC .. equivalent to snapdragon 425 which was launched in 2016. No thanks…

    • TCL 502 in this bundle SoC is the Unisoc SC9863A, same as the TCL 503.

Model is T442J where as the TCL 502 with the MediaTek Helio A22 is T432J.

      • Just checked the benchmarks, similar shitty performance…

  • Bought this bundle several weeks ago at the Southport store (they had to retrieve it from the back of the store).

    • I noticed that you didn't have anything good to say about it.

  • Seriously the chipset (Mediatek Helio A22) on the TCL 502 smartphone is so old released in 2018 (even back then it was bottom of the barrel entry level e-waste crap) and the storage is extremely slow eMMC. In my opinion this sounds like immediate e-waste and the tablet computer probably also is e-waste. Why did TCL even bother making this in the first place. Who the heck in their right mind would buy this crap.

  • none in stock, no use

    • Probably for the better.

  • Was going to get one for car diagnostics … just run one app, don’t even need chrome, and a bonus tablet, these things aren’t much good for people using as primary phone with lots of chrome tabs, but some phones just get used for google maps while bike riding, car diagnostics, single function type stuff, and might never see a SIM, just wireless at home for an update and setup and that’s it.

  • come on, dont underestimate the power of 4GB virtual ram, ha ha ha

  • these are technically a good deal… but please dont buy this. spend the extra money for something usable or just buy used. you can get a a 2018 flagship for around 100, leaving 100 for a tablet… or just dont buy a tablet and get a good phone for 200
