  • Can anything be done in a 7 hour layover in Brunei?

    • No, they only have a very small fleet (5 788s and 7 a320neos), so their frequencies are always going to be more limited to other airlines like Singapore who typically have 5 daily flights to Melbourne.

    • Its a small island in just 4 hours you can cover the important places.

    • Yeah the centre of town is pretty close to the airport so you could easily catch a ride in and have a look around. It's not particularly cheap but I'd recommend a private boat trip along the river and into the floating village.

      • This.

Did this last year and while there's not much to do in Brunei it's still ok for a layover. Perfume is cheap too so i'm all for that.

      • It’s $20-30 bucks and well worth it. Ask to go see the proboscis monkeys around sunset as part of it. Very cool.

    • No. I flew this route last year. Mind you it was a replacement ticket after trip.com messed up my original tickets, purchased 1 week before departure at about the same price.
You will land at 6PM so there is barely anything open anymore. Even the few stores within the terminal are mostly closed. We walked around and found 1 convenience store, 1 dessert shop, 1 souvenir shop, 1 cafe which is Starbucks adjacent. There are also a couple of vending machines selling premade boxed meal next to a microwave. We found a quiet room with cozy-looking reclined chairs so we took a nap there. Nowhere to store your carry on luggage safely though, just need to keep them close.

    • I did this route a few years ago. It'll be getting pretty dark when you arrive, but the city centre is like a 10-15 minute taxi ride away so you can definitely go there and walk around. Could have a meal at a night market and also look at a mosque, and then return with plenty of time.

    • Not a great deal with a 7 hour stop over. Fly Jetstar or Qantas direct in under 11 hours.

    • Anyone stay at an airport hotel? That's what I would do- get a day room, and just chill out.

  • They're dry airlines ( No Alcohol will be served) and they're very very strict in baggage policy and some routes don't have cabin personal items (3kg) allowance. Check before booking with them. Otherwise they are ok.

    • Are you planning on having sex on the plane?

      • Sex out, drugs out, only rock-'n'-roll left - but I got a feeling that won't go down well either.

    • I’m definitely glad you won’t be able to act out your fetishes on the plane. Good luck hunting down a plane that supports you.

    • What r u planning to do while layover in the airport? Will the immigration asking you whether you’re gay or straight??

Don’t go to Israel or Russia if that’s your case.

      • Why would you want to go to those places anyway?

      • Being gay is completely legal in Israel. It’s by far the most LGBTQ-friendly place in the Middle East (not that that’s a particularly high bar).

        • Wow, I thought Israel following Moses’ principles like in Old Testament.

          • @brongz: Nope. It has a regular modern legal system. It does have religious courts that mediate certain personal issues for very religious people, but they come in all the major flavours - Jewish rabbinical courts, Muslim shariah courts, Druze courts and Christian ecclesiastical courts.

Unmarried same-sex couples are recognised as civil law spouses for inheritance, tax and pension purposes. They are allowed to adopt and raise children or access surrogacy. They can't be married in Israel but if they were married overseas the marriage is legally recognised under Israeli law. The larger cities have gay bars and pride parades etc.. The ultra religious types have their own communities and suburbs and rarely leave their areas.

    • I think most people can tell. The rainbow luggage is a dead giveaway (excuse the pun).

    • It’s not illegal, it’s frowned upon.

      Thanks a lot, bin Laden.

    • If you’re Gay then you risk the death penalty

And if you're not, cheap flights. Works for me.

    • Im a Lezbo and have been to Brunei twice, no issues.

  • Book a hotel nearby and shower and have a nap

  • Thanks OP.

Paid $878 per person, for a multicity booking.
Melbourne to Brunei. Layover in Brunei to see the highlights in a day.
    Brunei to Incheon (South Korea).
And returning from Tokyo to Melbourne.

Will obviously organize our own way from Korea to Japan (thinking to take the Ferry from Busan to Fukuoka).

  • Are there usually any other sales with other airlines for this time of year? I heard its usually undesirable to go but would be down to go

  • Dry airline. They would have to be a lot cheaper for me to consider flying them.

    • going 8 hours without an alcoholic drink is that much of a dealbreaker for you?

  • i have never done this before and i hope i did not just do this for nothing
