  • Approximately AU$300 + shipping. Would love one, but emulation with shaders these days does the job for me. Nice to have one though and only read good things about them!

    • Fully agree hard to justify at $300 but definitely appreciate the effort made emulation for me is the way to go

    • Not only shaders but emulators can also allow you to bump up internal resolutions, enable widescreen mode and other tweaks to brings games into a more modern era.

      • any ol crt with composite video is my go to

    • What you really want is FPGA console like this one, and then the $1,000 Retrotink 4K to apply filters to the Superstation One's output. Only for people to tell you that you should have bought a CRT instead.

  • Seems rather expensive. There are so many cheaper ways to go about emulating PSX games, including on the PS1 classic mini console by mods.

    • This is not emulation though. However emulation brings many benefits like upscaling, perspective correction save stats and mods etc so it's more convenient to me. Have the regular mister FPGA stack which gets rarely used now a days.

      • This is not emulation though

        Didn't realise this.

Agree with what you said about the benefits in emulating outweighing what this console offers. I just use my PS2 with the memory card to play PS1 and PS2 ROMs off it (when not using my SD).

      • It's hardware emulation. It'll never be 100% perfect, but it should broadly look and behave just like a real PS1 and weaker consoles.

      • It is, just a different and more accurate kind.

    • Yep - I have no idea why anyone would prefer this to emulation. I guess the purpose built self contained package might appeal but modern emulation front ends are just as convenient and professional - batocera, retrobat or similar

      • Reasons:

        • Some of the cores have better accuracy than software emulation cores and hardware emulation like FPGAs are inherently more accurate because they don't have to compete with an operating system for resources unlike software emulation.
        • Basically plug and play for CRT monitors and it produces very clear output across all connections (composite, component, RGBs, RGBHV)
        • Support for original PS1 hardware components like controllers or memory cards with zero latency compared to original hardware. Support for other systems controllers via the dock with adapters.

For me the only reasons not to buy this is if you want to emulate systems above the Sega Saturn or use modern latency settings to reduce lag on flatscreens or if you want to use shaders. It doesn't output 4K so if the scaler in your TV sucks that might be another reason. Also save states but many of the FPGA cores on the superstation support save states. So if this is what you want just use Batocera.

        • PS1 emulation is easily good enough. I have zero interest in CRT screens and physical memory cards - shaders and virtual memory work just fine.

I get some people want an "authentic" experience, but I would argue it's fundamentally not authentic anyway so it's mostly semantics.

          • @lunchbox99: Yeah it's not for you. I was just responding to "I have no idea why anyone would prefer this to emulation".

          • @lunchbox99: crts are neato really depends if you want to see the art as originally intended but i totally get folks not wanting to deal with the space or the unreliability/degraded multi decade+ electronics lol even then it's only a very specific era that benefits from dithering with SD CRTs (or weird pre VGA standards) but post VGA 480p era in a 4k OLED + filter world it wont matter as much outside niche/nostalgic use cases.
(1920x1440+ CRT monitors are really neato they have a sudo 'natural anti aliasing' effect due to phosphor round dots vs square pixels of modern displays)

            • @OriginalDan: Yes I understand that but shaders do a very good job of mimicking CRT output. Lots of people load up the emulator without shaders and think it looks nothing like the original game. Well yeah… you havent finished configuring it.

  • Whoops

  • I waited over a year for this company to get my SUPER5 OLED and even then in the end I didn't get what I had originally ordered from them. It was a different scenario because they were selling a product which they hadn't actually completed designing at that stage, and they're a newer company so maybe didnt understand what items they can/can't ship easily thus advertising products they couldn't fulfill. But throughout that experience the communication and customer experience was poor and misleading.

I believe in this case the Superstition is in production (it says batch 4), so most of the issues I experienced are unlikely to surface here. However I would still be weary of this company. Additionally, while I haven't looked into this item, but I would definitely check with the community for any quirks. I'm sure it's quite good, but I would just go in eyes open with Retro Remake.

    • They also wouldn't honor the Early bird discount, when I have to downgrade from w HDMI to OLED only.because they haven't finish the design. And yes, communication is almost on par with AYN

    • RR is Taki Udon 1 youtuber who i think lives in Hong Kong? after he designs stuff he pays local pcb/case makers to finalize the products
his Mister FPGA was great however the whole batch releases can lead to sniper buyers as his stuff is in high demand from being low volume
none of that discounts your legitimate criticism though I'm not surprised with it being a mostly 1 man operation so YMMV

  • Should’ve named it Plash Speed 1…😅

  • I've been aware of this console since more or less it's unveiling, so yes, I'm aware of FPGA v emulation when I say,

If you want a box connected to your modern TV to play PS1 in a manner more or less as similar as possible to the original thing, go buy a preowned PS3. You'll get a proper Sony remote, you'll be able to play discs out the box (obvs can mod to play "backups" too), it works on HDMI as well as the original AV cables just like this one, but it also has a Bluray/DVD/CD player, some internet streaming ability, local media storage, and obviously can also play PS3 games (PS2, PSP, and more via aforementioned mods too).

I understand the joy of a new toy, I really do. But 300 bucks for this is just silly. It doesn't matter what goes into it, the cost, any of it, the actual act of paying 300 dollars for this is silly. The components could be worth a grand, but unless you're buying to strip and sell those components for profit, it's a silly use of money to play PS1 stuff when there's just so many, like soooo many, comparable options for cheaper, or completely free in many cases

    • You can run other cores besides PS1, it's basically a Mister in a PS1 style case.

  • It’s a great product but their customer service sucks. My delivery was attempted in December, courier claimed my office was not open and then the item was sent back to China. 4 months of complaining later they finally agreed to send me a replacement but I had to pay postage on my replacement item…

    • Whereabouts are you located? I’m in VIC and still waiting for mine to be delivered lol

      • VIC, i pre-ordered last year

  • Better off buying a Retroid Pocket 6 and connecting it to your television. I believe you can emulate pretty much everything

  • I want this

It's also basically a mister, you can put any cores you want on it

  • Love them nostalgia cash grabs this should be like $99

However ill like this because of the Sheer nostalgia of burning games on mass and the old 90s gaming vibes

  • Tempting, but I don't need it.

Still, it's far cheaper than trying to build a Mister set up, plus it's in a nicer case.

  • Not sure if I would say affordable in this day and age. Maybe if it were about raspberry pi price tag

    • have you seen raspberry pi's these days? they're not cheap anymore lol

  • Like others here, I used to wonder why I'd go something like this over traditional emulation. On a whim, I got one (a Mister Pi initially, but I've also ordered one of these)… wow, I can't go back to emulation now. When using the correct controllers through a SNAC, I forget I'm not using the actual console. This is as pure as it gets. It's as simple as the confidence of knowing if something isn't working right, it wasn't right on the original console either… not because there's a hiccup in the emulation, or the Raspberry Pi I'm using isn't up to snuff.

It's not for everyone, but I'd highly recommend one if you love retro consoling and computing.

  • Why is this considered a deal at that price when it doesn't even come with controllers?

    • It has built in Bluetooth. Surely you should be able to repurpose an Xbox/PlayStation controller for this.

      • For this price, i'd expect a plug n play system all ready to go. Instead of effing around with getting controllers that work.

        • Analogue consoles are closer to what you’re looking for. However that’s two or more folds more expensive and also comes with no controllers.

And you have to beg their store to drop a shipment like dogs.

    • this product is basically a more polished version of the MISTER DE-10 Nano development board stack, where you buy the DE10 nano FPGA dev kit and some additional boards and ram upgrades and mash them together in a stack.

they actually have a clone product of the DE10 NANO on there website that they sell as well called the Mister-PI for $125 USD - for comparison a real one would cost you around $225 USD just for the dev board:

      https://www.terasic.com.tw/cgi-bin/page/archive.pl?Language=…

the price is actually pretty decent considering that its a fully custom polished version of what would cost you $225 USD just to buy the FPGA board that its based off, in addition to it being a custom PCB that has all the extras built in such as the SD RAM kit, Analog output board… etc.

its closest competitor in the market would be the Analogue 3D, which is around 270USD.

  • what in the bootleg is this? i still have my ps1 from my child hood, still have not bought the 5 tho but ill pick it up for gta 6 this nov

  • Wouldn't even buy this for the nostalgia at that price tag. Better off emulating on pc and upscaling.

    • this isnt really the same market, its a premium product that is designed to give you virtually identical hardware-based emulation (more accurate than software) and low latency peripherals - as if you were playing the real thing.

no input lag, no display lag via digital converters.

consider how much people pay for something like the Retrotik 4k just for ultra-low latency video processing(hint: its like 750USD lol), and suddenly youll see why someone might be buying this instead of original hardware + the upscaler.

its also not just a ps1 emulator, its a hardware FPGA ecosystem built on the DE10 NANO, and is compatible with all the cores that the MISTER project is:

      https://mister-devel.github.io/MkDocs_MiSTer/cores/console/
      https://mister-devel.github.io/MkDocs_MiSTer/cores/computer/
      https://mister-devel.github.io/MkDocs_MiSTer/cores/arcade/

there are other specialised products designed to be drop-in replacements for old Arcade Cabinet boards eg:

      https://misteraddons.com/products/mistercade-v2-kit-mister-f…

      • no input lag

        They're ps1 games….
I could understand if it were tournament games that are still relevant similar cs or fighting games, but for the average consumer this is overkill and emulators these days are good enough to not notice a difference. This really seems like it's meant for either speedrunners or people with OCD and too much disposable income who don't know any better.

        • its not just a ps1 console, it supports all the cores from the mister project.

some older games can become seriously unplayable when you introduce significant input latency.

          example:

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZTS04rVOn0
          .

  • $335 to play ps1 games. I can play them on a 50 buck handheld

  • Retro arch & ES-DE are your emulation friends :)

  • Aside from the obvious software emulation option - I just checked Marketplace and there was an actual PS1 for $50 and another for $80. I see this can do other cores but I’d rather have the actual hardware than emulated hardware especially at this price.

    • its not really emulation in the same sense, this uses an FPGA to physically replicate what the chips in the ps1 or other cores do at an electronic level, not just at the instruction level like normal emulation.

considering the FPGA its based on alone is about $225 USD for the dev kit, its actually a pretty decent price:

      https://www.terasic.com.tw/cgi-bin/page/archive.pl?Language=…

      • I understand hardware emulation. If you want something with that chip then yes you could get this. My point still stands.

        • One of the reason people like MiSTER on FPGA is because it’s beneficial to game preservation, given original hardware maybe dying or wearing out.

But it’s absolutely true for popular consoles like PS1 or PS2 - a usable console is not expensive to own.

          • @xmagic: it can be expensive if you want the same benefits tho.

hooking up an old ps1/ps2 to a modern TV is not straightforward.

if your TV even has analogue outputs, its likely old and using a less-than-spectacular ADC to convert the analog singal to digital for the display.

this introduces latency and will likely be lower quality output.

proper ADC's with low latency and high quality upscalers can be very expensive - the Retrotink 4k for example is 750USD.

another alternative might be to mod your consoles to tap directly into the digital signal before it gets converted for analog output, but doing this means your cheap console will probably require an expensive hardware mod and someone to install it.

for example a HDMI mod kit for the ps1 right now looks like it would set you back around 80 aud just for the kit itself, then youd have to install it or pay someone to install it.

even if you choose to go down this route, you are still limited to the single console - if you wanted to do this for every console you own that has analog only output it could get quite expensive quite fast.

Some consoles even have specific hardware revisions that have built-in digital output, and they often fetch a premium.

one example is the Gamecube - the DOL-001 original model has both Digital and Analog outputs, compared to a later revision the DOL-101 that has Analog-only outputs.

that is one advantage of these FPGA systems, is that since you are effectively cloning the chip at an electronic level, you can directly extract whatever signals you want.

with the added advantage of it supporting a wide variety of systems, not just a single console:

            https://mister-devel.github.io/MkDocs_MiSTer/cores/console/
            https://mister-devel.github.io/MkDocs_MiSTer/cores/computer/
            https://mister-devel.github.io/MkDocs_MiSTer/cores/arcade/

there are even versions of the MISTER setup that can work as a drop-in replacement for old damaged arcane JAMMA boards:

            https://misteraddons.com/products/mistercade-v2-kit-mister-f…

            • @Ken OC: Dude I’m on your side …

              • @xmagic: I didnt say you weren't, sorry if it came off that way - just adding context for someone who might not understand the type of person buying this product.

                • @Ken OC: All good. But I have more than one friend who find me feeding them technical details intimidating. I’m sure many others especially non core players would feel the same.

  • Seeing comments suggesting emulation is just cringe inducing.

  • Hopefully their production is mostly fixed. I ordered the Batch 2 Wave 4/5 with docking station. Still pending shipping. Though I think it’s close. I’ve been waiting for my order for almost 2 years.

Though I can definitely understand why given Taki’s been relatively transparent on this matter since Dec 2025.

    • im pretty sure the docking station is why your order has been held up, if you ordered it without that you would have already gotten it.

      • Just that the dock is the only reason I'd ordered SS1 in the first place. It's incomplete without one IMO.

        • i think they give you an option to split the order and get it faster, but it means paying shipping twice, and youd still have to wait for the dock because i dont think its in final production yet? or if it is would have only been recently.

  • But will it run all my cheap Bali copies of PS1 games? :D

    • You’ll need to either rip them on computer first or get the dock.

Given it’s a DVD drive on the dock, you can even rip a PS2 game with that setup. Just can’t emulate the game though.

  • Wait for a steam machine (if the price is right) + install Emudeck OS in the steam OS (for better value combo on all emulation with an awesome UI)

Or better yet - make one with a purposefully built mini PC (if Steam Machine is stupidly expensive)

This is nice to have but it’s a rip-off nostalgia-cash-grab at the asking price.

For an FPGA console - No included cd drive to play your own disc games (at this price), and no optional controller included for one is just plain stupid.

Also - Where is the Sega Saturn Mini or one from Analogue? That system is more deserving as it’s hardly present in good form (yet)

    • there is a massive difference between the Sega Saturn Mini and FPGA emulation in terms of price point.

the FPGA that the SSONE is based on is the same as the MISTER setup (based on the DE-10 nano) for which the base dev kit is 225USD by itself with none of the additional extras like the SD RAM/Analog Outputs/SNAC etc.

      https://www.terasic.com.tw/cgi-bin/page/archive.pl?Language=…

in terms of value, its actually pretty good.

the Analogue 3d (Comparable to this product) is $270USD and does not include a controller either.

Analogue 3d also doesn't have the same OpenFPGA support as there other products like the Analogue Pocket, so you are limited only to the n64 core, it cant do anything else

where as this can do every core that the MISTER can do:

      https://mister-devel.github.io/MkDocs_MiSTer/cores/console/
      https://mister-devel.github.io/MkDocs_MiSTer/cores/computer/
      https://mister-devel.github.io/MkDocs_MiSTer/cores/arcade/

the only other comparable FPGA product is the ModRetro M64, but its not released yet. and while they have stated they're going to open the platform up for custom cores, that does not mean they will make them, it is up to the community to do it, compared to the MISTER ecosystem, where the cores are already available and very mature at this point.
