CamelCamelCamel.Wished it comes with an in built memory slot to save those files
That's not Ring's business model
+criminals jamming wifi is a concern.
Everyone wants a free lunch.
Nah, we just don't want to continually pay through the nose for everything. We're OzBargainers not OzSubscribeToAsManyServicesAsWeCaners.
can you get just the chime on its own?
What a waste of a wish!
That’s what HomeAssistant is for
subscription = no deal
even if they give the unit for free…
And whats the point of a video doorbell if you cant record without subscribing.
cheap intercom?
@dealsucker: Initiate the talk using from live view is allowed. Ring doesn't let you record without subscription, but it doesn't mean people didn't come up with a workaround. Obviously, it's not straightforward.
I know people using Ring doorbell without subscription and they seem quite happy with that setup. Also, if we are talking about event based only recording (due to battery operated and without solar panel) and WiFi, no solution is decent (due to the limitation of running on battery / batteries). I tried to save storage space by putting some of my wired cameras to record motion events only, even with 3 seconds pre-event record, it is still missing needed footage. I've changed to adaptive (24x7 but when event is triggered, higher resolution).
@TrivagoTeeth: I've had a ring without subscription for over 5 years … this is what we use it for and it works well, haven't had a need to record, if i did i'd get something different.
It works fine as a doorbell/intercom/camera to check if delivery was made (if you catch the delivery live or have it angled to see packages left).
Why do you need to record from your doorbell? It's not a video camera, it's a…doorbell.
I’m glad you brought it up, otherwise I might have gone ahead and pulled the trigger. Thanks for that.
DITTO…….I have never had one of these so decided to buy and try…….read the above…looked into it…..Order Cancelled. Also, thanks for that!
No worries mate
Check out the TP-link Tapo range for local recording to SD card.
I am a bit funny about recording to card, ok if it's for deliveries etc but if it's for burglaries maybe they just take the whole camera?
I have the Tapo OP was talking about. Your doorbell is outside on the door obviously, the hub is inside your house and that's where the SD card sits. It's a good setup and far better value than paying a subscription for a doorbell!
Doorbell on it’s own is now $49
Clearing it as a new model has come out
Good price for basic use, just to check who is at the front door.
Ring. Absolutely no bloody chance.

Experience. Absolutely no bloody chance.
Standard features such as real-time notifications, Live View and Two-Way Talk are available out of the box and at no additional cost on all compatible Ring devices.
Add a Ring Protect Plan (subscription sold separately) to record, review and share the moments you missed (30-day free trial included in your purchase).
No go.
Thanks bought one, this will replace my 1st gen doorbell which I've had for years so the battery doesn't go for as long as it used to.
I already have the subscription ($4.95 a month) for the 2nd camera so I have video history for that one device.
The motion on the doorbell also triggers the camera, so whether someone walks in front the doorbell or the camera I get the footage, this avoids the need to pay the extra subscription for both devices.
Without any subscription the doorbell still works if you answer it at the time, you just don't have video history.
Imo save the money. Get a camera with notification and local storage.
Unless you're living in an apartment block with lots of foot traffic, you'll get a notification when someone appears.
Don't need comms anyway. Couriers/post press the button and leave. All you're going to do is tell salesmen to f off.
Anyone important has your phone anyway
Nope. Reolink FTW 🙃
Swann EVO Wireless Video Doorbell and Chime
$67.50 after price beat (Harvey Norman or Officeworks )

Any good recommendations for this Brand.. If good, I'll recommend to my friend
Says $127.96 to me
Does it ask for subscription?
Is the chime plug in or has rechargeable battery?
It plugs in
I got a different brand without realising it was subscription too. Without it you can still remotely answer the door and speak to people. You do get notifications of movement but usually by the time you connect the person has gone.
I suspect these products get sold at a loss to suck you into a subscription and probably spy on you.
Why do people post these subscription models despite being called out in earlier posts?
Dimwits.
This product should be banned from posting or minimum monthly subscription price put in title to allow posting
You can purchase it without subscribing 🙄
And have like zero decent features

Doesn't Amazon know meme pricing is $67 now.
its 10 bucks more to get the ring and the chime…..
Got this then changed to Tapo d235. Really happy with that.
got it going to sell of my old ring door bell even if its 50 bucks i still win on price for 69 bucks :D
I have a Ring Doorbell.
Personally i don't recommend getting one unless you like to pay for unnessessary subscriptions to fully use your own property.
I'd more recommend a Reolink or Eufy or something similar that keeps your data local & is easier to integrate with self hosted smart home stuff (like HomeAssistant).
I personally run Scrypted (self hosted) which allows me to add the Ring Doorbell & bridge it to HomeKit, where my $1.50 iCloud+ sub lets me save 10 days of footage & can tell me who was at the door. I could set up something else to record, but im already paying for iCloud+ & i dont really need recording, so figured I'd just use that.
This is a janky solution since it relies on the Ring Doorbell motion alerts (which come from the Ring servers) to inform Scrypted to connect to the stream. so sometimes the footage is clipped a little at the start since there is a slight delay between motion alert & Scripted opening the stream.
*edit: to be clear (before my janky additions), it works, it rings, you can look at the feed & talk 2 way, but no recording & some other little details. but what kills it for me is its locked down. There's no local connection, if the net goes out the Doorbell is out. I should be able to directly connect to this network device from my network & that's not something Ring allows.
We have a ring doorbell that we got given as a Christmas present. Don't pay any subscription. We find it handy as living in a court the street kids are always coming around to play with our kids. They can ring the doorbell and if we are out we can see who it is and chat to them to tell them when we'll be home. Earlier in the year the kids all had a full blown conversation for about 20 minutes while we were away on holidays telling them what we were up to. We were laughing so much how funny technology is sometimes that people are now talking with doorbells like you are there lol. Don't need any recording and not sure why you would want to. Handy enough for the cheap price. Charge it about every 4 months or so.
Also need a chime as without it, only rings on your phone so if you don't have the chime and don't have your phone on you, you won't know someone is at the front door.
Wished it comes with an in built memory slot to save those files. Not everyone wants subscription to their cloud storage.
