40% off does seem crazy. stackable with any potential EOFY deals next month
- 13

i think this is a pretty insane deal!
- 0

Guess they have to find a way of selling Copilot things someway for the books.
Copiloting the books.
- 0

I got a few $400 with $1200 spent offer via Westpac and NAB. The price from Microsoft is crazy even with $400 off
- 7

And there new business laptops are so expensive
- 0

Xbox series X 2tb for $1049 before cashback .. their laptops are over priced. Shame you cant stack gift cards for their game pass service.. Would last a lifetime…
- 9

You can buy the gift cards over 5 transactions, doesn't have to be in one (get $100 Xbox + $100 Microsoft).
Final cost after cashback:- Game Pass Ultimate: 38 months @ $15.79/mth
- PC Game Pass: 59 Months @ $10.17/mth
Great price considering it's hard to get discounts on these subs now. Though it is a lot to pay upfront and it will be subject to any future price increases.
- 0

can you confirm if I can use both xbox and microsoft gift card to purchase any hardware online or instore?
- 0

The gift cards simply add to your Microsoft Account balance, which you can use to pay for (almost) anything on the Microsoft website.
Not sure what you mean by instore though? Microsoft don't have their own physical stores anymore- 0

@nategasm: Thank you.. I thought they still have physical stores. Last time I was in Sydney, I saw one.
- 0

Have you tried this one and it works? Previously the website won’t let me pay the gift card with my Amex.
- 0

No I haven't bought anything from the Microsoft site yet. I was able to add my Amex on the checkout page so I don't see why it wouldn't work.
- -1

@nategasm: I can add the card as well. But when I clicked pay, it will always show error message. No help from Microsoft customer service. :(
- 0

Well I ordered the xbox with the thought of getting the $400 rebate and trading in an old one X for $185. both things I've somehow screwed up.
I used the wife's AMEX, despite we "added the discount" to "her card", and I went and ordered the thing, it wasn't there the next day.
We added it back on… but it looks like it hasn't matched the order to the purchase and the credit has NOT been applied. Then in the trade in I selected a 500GB xbox (I had loaned it to a friend, who I've upgraded to a One S) - only to realised it is a 1TB, so I only got a trade in quote for $160 instead of $185. Fixing that with TelAdvance (the trade in partner) is proving impossible as once you've put in a trade you cannot amend nor delete it. three emails to TelAdvance who are in the US, have not fixed it as they themselves don't seem to know how to wipe or change an order so I'm in limbo there too.
Looks like this will be delivered today, and I'll have little option but to send it right back!
- 0

Chat to Amex about the credit issue, their customer service is usually pretty good
- 0

There’s no guarantee it’ll work but you can try to pair this with a Microsoft trade in promo https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/store/b/microsoft-trade-in
They gave me around $600 for my older surface pro 7+ (sells for about 250 on eBay), so it was a cheap upgrade.
- 3

Thanks - from my research the payment comes in via bank transfer or PayPal is that right? So you pay full price for your purchase (whatever it is) which makes it easier to hit the spend? i.e. they dont refund the amount to your payment method potentially negating the spend requirement, or issue store credit or similar?
- 0

Correct - paypal worked for me, and I paid full price up front with the tradein credited separately.
Also, don't forget that laptops can be salary sacrificed at some companies and paid with pre-tax funds (if this will primarily used for work purposes, and this is not financial/tax advice)
- 1

Thank you!
- 0

They quoted me a cool $39 on my Surface Book 2.
- 1

$57 for my surface laptop 2 lol. But with the current trade-in offer, comes to $557. Which doesnt seem bad at all.
- 0

Seems like the key to getting the "bonus" is you have to select that you're planning to purchase a new device and select it from the list. Then after you buy it, you send them a copy of the invoice and you get the bonus cashback amount.
- 0

$66 for mine lol.
- 0

They won't even take my Surface Laptop 1st gen. Feels rough but I've already replaced it with another laptop deal.
- 0

I don't see the surface pro options at all? Where did you find the pro 7+ option?
- 0

Why do you say there is no guarantee it will work? I believe it worked for you right?
- 0

They sell beer and gum, right?
- 1

Amazing, now I just need to split the bill over my 2 cards to get $800 back :D
- 2

no bill split
- 0

How do you split the bill?
- 0

Buy gift cards and then use to purchase the device
- 0

Can we use the gift cards for the 365 service? Also, have you tried purchasing the gift cards, and did the cashback track successfully? Thanks.
- 0

This is an interesting one as I'm in the market for a 2tb Xbox Series X. The way I'm going to use this is purchase a used Xbox Series S 512gb off FB market place ($110-$150) to use as a trade in device.
Purchase Xbox Series X 2tb -$1049
Use Amex $400 cashback
Trade in Xbox Series S 512gb $208 (or $226 for a 1tb model)Total after rebates $550-$580~

- 2

How does the rebate work? You get a refund after purchase or it lowers the purchase price?
- 0

It looks as though you apply for the rebate post purchase and it's paid into your bank account, allowing you to keep the purchase price above the $1000 minimum set by Amex.
- 1

Dunno if that would work as you're still effectively spending less than $1000 with them (trade-in would be calculated beforehand, surely?)
- 0

all that matters is what gets billed to the amex account, in this case the trade in rebate is sent separately, not deducted
- 2

do you receive the trade-in value as credit in your account? Or will they refund the money to your card? if it's the latter one, your cashback will be cancelled.
- 0

You'll get even more if you can get a Surface Laptop 2 from ebay. They're offering around 550 according to one commenter above. I got $640 for a Surface Pro 7+ that's only worth $250 on a good day - so about $400 profit if you trade in a Surface.
- 1

A game console can only trade in for a game console
- 1

Does buying on Xbox.com works?
- 0

For fun I just checked trade in value on an Xbox Series X 1TB (launch model) and it offered me $102 or $262 with promo….
Bit of a joke compared to even say Gamesmen which is $400 for the same console (granted, it's in-store credit which only works against pretty much RRP).
ie. Without the AMEX offer, the MS store pricing/trade in values are pretty woeful… would've thought they'd be a bit more eager to value their own hardware higher.
- 1

Thank you for the tips on trade-in.
Funny that Amex already credited my account $400 before the new console is delivered and sending the trade-in console away… I hope the trade-in goes smoothly.
I'm surprised that XSS worth $300-$350 on FB Marketplace now. I remembered used consoles were once <$300. Though trade-in is indeed more convenient.
- 1

When did you buy and how long did credit appear? Or did you just get an email from Amex?
- 0

Ordered on 28th, credited on 29th (according to the statement - I only saw it appears on the transactions on 30th).
Though I’m not surprised. It’s a bit faster than other offers, but Amex credits my account within a few days of transaction anyway from past experiences.
- 0

They are out of stock of quite a few devices online.
- 0

Shame there is precious little you can get from Microsoft for $1000
- 4

You used to be able to get surfaces around $1000. It's funny that Apple now offers better value at this $1000 price point.
- 7

did they ever do $200 off for $500 spend?
- 0

Never, 100 off 500, or 200 off 800 before.
- 0

Nice deal for a new series X console. Maybe a lot of games too …
- 0

can we price match it via chat and use amex to pay ? do we still get the cash back ? any one try ?:
- 1

Assuming you can, Amex just look for the transaction and value on the statement.
Officeworks would be the cheapest at the moment?- 0

surface pro 12" still over 500 after trade in , not as good as black friday sale :(
- 0

What I'd like to know if it's likely that this sort of deal is repeated at the end of the year… My kid starts high school next year and will need a new computer… But buying one 7-8 months in advance doesn't add up…
- 0

Ps. Closed my amex, but have some of the CCs mentioned above
- 0

just open another free one
- 0

Waiting for the two year period to finish… Had it for more than 10 years…
- 0

Can we still buy gift cards to meet the $1000 spend?
- 1

Should be ok, checked T&C, didn't exclude gift card, purchase MUST via www.microsoft.com/en-au and paid with care to wich the offer is saved.
- 0

Then u could split a purchase across 2 Amex cards to buy 2 x $1000 GC and get $800 back?
- -1

Technically yes, but I am not able to add 10 gift cards to my cart.
- 0

@SmileSydney: Yes, can buy 1 GC , you will need purchase 10 times. Luckly, this offer allows 1k in one or more transactions.
- 0

@qihu: Also there is a pretty good chance that MS will block your card for fraud prevention long before you hit the 10x :)
- 2

@timedzone: You can buy 1 of each gift card type in same transaction. So you could do $100 Xbox and $100 Microsoft over 5 transactions.
Note: Xbox and Microsoft gift cards are effectively the same.- 0

@nategasm: good to know! 5 tx seems more realistic but i am still quite sceptical if MS would let us do 5 tx on the same card.
- 0

@timedzone: Doubt MS would care. Usually it's the card issuer that cares more about fraud, but Amex should be expecting multiple transactions since they are the ones allowing it (plus their customer service is very good)
- 0

@nategasm: Most gift card sellers do as fraud will burn them directly. If MS care or not is another question though considering their massive size, they can probably afford those fraud loss easily. However for the same reason they might already have some sophisticated fraud detection in place to block it off, so we wont really know until someone who needs to buy an expensive device and have multiple Amex cards actually tests it out.
- 0

@timedzone: Not saying you are wrong. Just from my experience of buying a lot of gift cards multiple times from everywhere and the only time I've ever been blocked was from giftcards.com.au. Think the most I've done is 15 tx in one day on Amazon.
The deal still has a while to go anyway, so could space out the transactions over a few days if you really want to be safe.
- 0

@nategasm: Yeah I am not sure if I am right either. Hopefully not.
I've just bought a new Mac. If this came up earlier I might be getting an Intel Surface Pro instead. 40% off does seem really attractive!
- 1

Any one buy a $1000 gift card and did it work?
- 0

DO NOT TRY THIS! Despite being the MS account owner registered to my home address and primary card holder, I got $300 in and they suspended my account for all purchases for security purposes, although i still had full access - just couldn't make purchases, so I call BS. They haven't allowed me to use the $300 in gift vouchers. As I redeemed the vouchers to my account and authorized the transactions, AMEX considers it delivered, so charge back was an issue. I've has the same account for for well over 20 years, with no issues. I've spent days trying to get this resolved through MS support and funnily enough the secondary contact on my account is now receiving scam calls mentioning very specific details and to authorize transactions and provide credit card details, so MS needs to look closer to home in their fraud prevention. This wasn't resolved after escalation and told nothing more they can do. The only way I got a resolution was by adding an Xbox to may cart (I don't even want) and going through another day of escalation -allowing me to make a purchase. Get effed.

Has anyone tried using this for Microsoft 365 Business?
- 0

Wondering the same. Can we prepay business subs in advance to trigger cashback?
- 0

Yes you can.
Need to do it through live chat agent. Tell them you are prepaying for tax purposes.
If you get to 5yrs ahead on standard then they may upgrade you to business premium for free- 1

Have you done this before, and does it trigger an email from Amex? Thanks
- 0

Yes did it earlier this year with the other Amex offer. Emails are hit or miss with the offers. Sometimes I get them and sometimes I don’t. Credits always come through though
- 1

why would i spend money to get less money back?
- -5

Ok so 2tb xbox one x for $1049 down to $649
Flog it on marketplace for $849?
- 1

and dealing with scammers? maybe eBay, but their fee is outrageous!
- 0

I thought eBay was free to sell now I keep getting messages
- 1

It's "free", but now they charge the buyer a "protection fee" that gets added to the listed price. So they still effectively take a cut.
- 0

too much trouble for $200
- 2

Damn it!! Not one of the lucky ones!!
- 0

Just get any Amex card. Even the white card (no fees) can participate in most of the credit events.
- 1

I have the ultimate card, but no offer :(
- 0

Check the website. Also go to the offers page to show more. I can see 63 offers available in total at the moment.
- 0

The offer is targeted, but I was lucky enough to get it. I have the ultimate card too.
- 0

Save the Offer to your eligible Card and spend $1,000 or more, in one or more transactions, online only at www.microsoft.com/en-au by 30/06/2026 to receive one $400 credit. Limited to first 20,000 Cards to save the Offer. Exclusions apply.
