So I could bring 1 old (working) 2ah Ozito 18v battery and get the 5.2ah Twin pack for $129? I don't see the Ozito mentioned in the T&C's is all

    • Particularly interesting if this is allowed given the RRP of the Ozito 2Ah battery is $40

      • +13

Comes down to how overpriced the 5.2ah twin pack is.
Buying the 2Ah at $40 then surrendering it to get $50 off only saves you $10 - you'd be better off waiting for a special on the 5.2Ah to save more than that.

      • +4

Ozito 2.5Ah with the battery is $25:
        https://www.bunnings.com.au/_p0501102

    • +1

Yes. I did the twice when the offer was going last time. I took in a broken one where it wouldn't clip into tools properly and did that as a trade in.

I then went again and took in a small battery and got the larger twin pack.

    • +4

I've seen reports of people bringing in non-working batteries on previous offers like these at Bunnings.
It seems that as long as a battery is produced, there is very little consideration given to it's quality or operational status.

Naturally YMMV as I have not done this myself and have only seen comments from others.

      • +8

They don't actually want the old batteries. It's a sales promo, nothing more. Look at the prices they are charging to start with, still lots of profit margin in it for them.
No Ozito to buy in the T&C's tho, specifies must be one of the 10 below

      • The T&Cs suggest that they don't care, as long as it's 18v.

That means you can use 18v for 36v purchase.

      • It’s a marketing exercise to drive sales.

No one actually cares about the nature of the battery as the marketing budget allows for:

        • $50 discount on item
        • cost of disposal of a bunch of batteries

It’s a sophisticated and legal form of channel stuffing.. 🤷🏾

    • -1

The last time they had this offer my local Bunnings accepted eBay knock off batteries that didn't even work!

      • If the batteries regularly go on sale for $50 off or more they don't have much to lose.

    • $65 per battery is possible considering the 4.0Ah one is 1/2 of this price.

      • 4Ah is $33 when purchased in a multi pack:

        https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-pxc-18v-4-0ah-battery-mult…

        • +1

As others have noted, if you’re in the Ozito ecosystem, the deal only really stacks up if you’re looking for the extra torque that comes with the 5.2Ah batteries, and have a dead 18v’er lying around.

Which I suspect covers a few fortunate people - myself included…

          • @UncleRico: The deal doesn't include Ozito batteries

            • @jeffa: Yep. Contrary to previous years and what the OP saw in store and posted about, it appears that this is the case, unlike previous years. Oh well, money saved…

    • It just says "any brand 18v lithium power tool battery". Doesn't matter if working

    • I don't think it needs to be working.

  • +2

Looks like it's already started, from T&Cs:

  • +4

Nothing about the Ozito on their website. If it was available on the $99 4A 3 pack now that would be awesome!

  • +1

lol, look at the price of the ozito twin pack - $179. you can get 3x 4Ah batteries for under $100

    • +1

But the larger twin pack is 5.2Ah batteries.

      • -3

so you would rather pay $129 for 10.4Ah or $99 for 12Ah?

        • +3

Depending on what you using the batteries for, yeah. 36V tools run great with the 10.4Ah total when you might only be able to do 8Ah with the other batteries.

It really depends on what the use case is and what tools you are using.

          • +5

@geekcohen: The larger capacity ones generally can output higher amps too, though not sure of the diff between the 4Ah and 5.2Ah

AI overview suggests the following, but you know how much to trust AI overviews…

"The 18V 4.0Ah Ozito battery provides up to 900 watts of max output power, which equates to a maximum continuous current draw of roughly 50 amps under heavy load.

The 18V 5.2Ah (Ultra Performance) battery utilizes higher-grade 21700 cells, delivering up to 1260 watts of max output power and a continuous discharge current of 70 amps, making it ideal for high-drain tools like circular saws or angle grinders."

            • +1

@bamzero: if the tools work with normal 4Ah batteries there is not much point in batteries with higher discharge current. i would prefer to have more batteries that i can use in multiple tools and be recharging if necessary

              • +1

                @c64:

if the tools work with normal 4Ah batteries there is not much point in batteries with higher discharge current.

It really depends on the tool and how much power you need.

            • +2

@bamzero: Also the chainsaw and leaf blower.

              • @redpen: Yep my Ryobi leaf blowers really eat up battery power. Generally need 3 high amp batteries to deal with our bricked area. Though personally I normally buy 3rd party versions given the outrageous prices Ryobi charge. IF I get slightly less usage I'm still way ahead financially.

            • +1

@bamzero: I did the trade last time and picked up 2 x 5.2ah and can confirm that on high power tools it absolutely makes a difference compared to the 4ah.

36v steel deck mower now goes through even super thick/long grass without bogging down.

36v whipper snipper noticeably more performance

18v edger makes a huge difference

18v brushless recip saw definitely better too.

Really depends on the tool and use case. If you want more performance, the 5.2 are great, if you want more runtime, get extra 4ah and chargers.

          • +1

@geekcohen: The difference is just about the duration of usage per charge. Tho the higher ampere one might suppose a higher surge like usb quick charge. For powerful or power hungry tools, higher ampere should be better.

    • +2

YouTube testing shows there is a tiny bit of performance (torque) gained by having a bigger battery on certain tools that need it. eg impact drivers or circular saws where it can bog down, it might cut a few seconds faster or not bog as much.

But yes you do have a point if you are considering $ per ah or whatever.

      • That would really depend on what current rating battery the tool was designed for and any type of self-regulation it used. Was the test on brushed or brushless tools for example.

        • +1

yes true but as you know there are already HP versions that benefit from it. Mostly impact wrenches or cutting tools is the obvious stuff.

  • +4

Looks like only certain AEG/Dewalt/Makita are eligible.
    Nothing about Ozito

    • +1

According to T&Cs, that is crrect.

  • -1

Nice, I have a few faulty batteries and the Ryobi - 18V 5.0Ah Twin Pack looks good as it's an HP battery too

I feel like people need to read the deal instead of saying certain things are no included and already started. However it would be nice to see a photo of the poster also!

    • +2

They are saying certain things as per Bunnings own T&C's which is all we have to go on at the moment.

      • +1

That promo could be different to what they may update in 4 days though

  • Is Ryobi included?

    • +1

      According to T&Cs, no.

    • +1

      T&C doesn't include the Ryobi

    • +1

Ryobi be not thus included in thy Terms and Conditions.

  • wow not cheap. I bought some repacked AEG batteries from ebay when one went dead. Much cheaper and whilst I haven't tested their capacity, they work and I am not a tradie pushing the limits.

  • these days in my local Bunnings most employees don't have much of a clue sadly & handing them any battery they'd hand over whatever deal you show them, they're always more than happy to help without asking any questions

  • +2

    So combine with this deal

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/960954

to get extra gift cards too? I had a quick squiz at the T&C on that one, Makita, Dewalt and AEG are all included brands, and there's no exclusion referring to this battery trade-in promo.

    • +1

They're meant to be different dates. The gift card deal is this weekend, the trade-in deal starts 1st June.

  • +2

    Achieve Ozbargain greatness!!

If you can convince your local Bunnings manager that this promo has started (06/05) according to their T&Cs, then you can apply for the AEG/DeWalt/Makita rebate as well!

Who will it be, who will manage to double-dip?!

    • Is there a say of no combined in T&C in case the discount voids the claim?

Or these are year round deals that they already know.

    • I know it's not great to live in hindsight but end of last month Bunnings, they had a battery trade in for $500 off a kit. (that was top tier one….they had $100 off and $250 off smaller kits too).

Traded in an old 18V Makita NiCad battery to get the $3K AEG 15 piece kit (plus the powerpass discount) I got $650 off. Then add in the redemption bonus. It worked for me…..anywho, that's my TED TALK. I've got two ryobi Li batteries for the next kit deal.

      • +1

        Thanks for posting the deal!

  • Awesome i have been waiting for this to come back after i missed out last year!

  • Got a dead Dewalt battery I'll use to take advantage of this, thanks!

    • +2

Dewalt twin pack DCB184P2-XJ now $189 on Amazon. Don't even have to go anywhere to get it cheaper than bunnings.

  • +1

I was pretty excited to get rid of 4 of my old failed 18V battery for $50 each but below condition killed it

as long as the customer has a battery to trade in for each unit they wish to purchase. We
can do multiple trade ins within the same transaction. Keep in mind, it is a MAX discount
of $50 per new product to be purchased. i.e. 2x battery trade in = $50 each off 2 new
products ($100 in total), not $100 off one new product.

  • These batteries are expensive… not really saving much. maybe if you can stack the discounts

  • Damn didn’t know this was a thing, chucked a dying Ryobi battery recently

    • Just wondering where - in the bin, or at a battery station / one at the tip?

      • Tip

        • Maybe they have spares at the tip they're happy to give you?

  • -3

    Trade in your old wife

  • Thanks OP! Hope your info is correct. As others note, there is no mention online about the Ozito’s, but if the 5.2Ah twin pack is included, I’ll happily be forfeiting my dead 1.5Ah Ozito for $50 off a couple of those torque masters…

    • +1

Hopefully, they will update the T&Cs after the 1st of June. My photo clearly says Ozito and Ryobi. For some reason I can't upload my photo from iPhone onto here.

      • what photo are you referring to?

        • Since @ynot1985 is the OP, I presume the photo he’s speaking of is one he took in store when he saw the upcoming promo advertised.

          • @UncleRico: whoops, i thought i replied to his comment.
I was just wondering where he uploaded to as I don't see it. If he has uploaded it at all

            • @cheapass88: You did (reply to his comment).

I don’t think he has uploaded it given the comment above about photo uploads not working.

              • @UncleRico: yeah.. my iPhone photo is .HEIC and it keeps giving errors when I try to upload it

                • @ynot1985: can you just screenshot your phone and upload that?

                • @ynot1985: Ozbargain file uploader doesn't support HEIC formats. Open your photos app and see if you can convert the file into a normal JPEG.

If you already have converted, upload the photo to a image file host like imgur or imgbb

If the image has been uploaded on Oz file uploader, you can grab the url of the image by long tapping the thumbnail and click copy link address. Paste the address into the description of the deal.

      • I confirmed with Bunnings via their SMS support chat that it's not Ozito or Ryobi.

  • i have some old 14.4v batteries. What can i do with them?

    • +3

Liquid paper, artline and a roll of the dice…

  • Can I trade in the battery from a Dyson vacuum cleaner V8 I think?

    • +1

Only 18v batteries so refer to UncleRico comment above

      • i think Dysons are 18v but maybe it does need to be a "power tool"

  • Probably obvious I can't but can I trade an old Hitachi 18v battery in on a Ryobi or does it need to be the same manufacturer?

    • +1

Yes, you can trade in any brands 18V battery and get $50 off any of the battery packs identified in the T&Cs. No need to buy the same brand. Currently Ryobi aren’t listed in the T&Cs though (may be when the deal goes live).

    • This is last year's thread and last years T&C link still works. You could bring any
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/922695

  • If I'm honest I really like Ryobi toola

  • Title is still wrong… the batteries that you can use the trade in for are only specific dewalt makita or aeg…. not ryobi or ozito

  • I have so many cooked batteries. Not sure $50 off makes it enough to take action

  • Any of these batteries is CAS battery ?

  • -1

Does the battery you trade-in have to be the same brand as the one you buy?
I sometimes find various brand batteries on the road, usually hit a few times by vehicles. (And yes, the batteries are usually ok, even after a direct hit).
So could I trade one (or two ) of them for the brand I use?

    • Based on previous years, no. Any brand, any condition 18v battery can be traded in for a discount against a nominated selection of replacement battery packs.

The million dollar question is whether or not the batteries eligible to redeem the $50 discount against , are going to include cheaper brands, such as Ryobi and Ozito. Website doesn’t show them as available to participate, but instore signage sighted by OP and previous years suggests they will be included once deal goes live.

  • +2

I finally managed to turn my photo into a jpg since so many ppl are questioning this deal as it's not on the website. I can't seem to be able to upload this here.

    Can anyone help?

    • +1

Can always upload to imgur or some other hosting site and then just post a link.

  • no ozito I guess ?

    • Meh. No Ozito or Ryobi, means this promo now eliminates 80% of their market. The home handyman is unlikely to find much value in $50 off an overpriced bundle of two or three AEG, MAkita or DeWalt batteries.

  • +6

It's now live on the Bunnings website, actual T&C's are these ones, description link needs to be updated

    Includes both ozito and ryobi
