        I've had one for a while now, been really solid. Cameras are awesome. I'm not the biggest fan of HyperOS (tries to be too much like iOS), coming from Samsung and Pixel I prefer those but I'm used to it enough now to know where to go.

        Overall it's a solid performer, snappy, nice with gaming, battery life is fine, etc.

      For the price, I believe the 17T Pro is the better buy. Unless you're stuck in the Apple ecosystem or prefer the OS, I would go for the Xiaomi.

            @Big L: Motorola is (profanity) horrible. None of the phones I've had (including an S20 FE/+) has as much bloat ware as Motorola. I keep getting bloatware from the (profanity) updates and notifications about it too.

        A lot of the criticisms are applicable to flagship too. HyperOS for example, is, shall we say, of poor quality in terms of stability and bugs. The criticism of bloatware is also on the spot.

        I came from a 15 Ultra international version (bought from Taiwan). The overall user experience is terrible. Never buying a Xiaomi phone again.

        Oh and by the way, my 15 Ultra broke because of water ingestion, a supposedly waterproof phone that can survive being submerged at up to 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes! Rubbish.

        note 15 pro isnt even that budget, its a midrange.

        and, this guys issue isnt performance or anything from the note 15 pro. its xiaomi's shitty software

        and yes, you can definitely neg a upper-midrange/budget flagship because of SOFTWARE (yk the universal constant on xiaomi phones) on a midrange phone.

        i also had a xiaomi (note 10 pro) and the software has made that thing unusable. the phone has slowed down considerably over the years (battery drain is terrible, not sure if thats related). theres definitely a lot of bloatware that got installed on it too…

      Might be an older flagship but I'm still using an 11t pro and it is a beast still fast af and battery life lasts pretty much as long as when I first bought it, I haven't even seen the need to upgrade yet lol but this 17t pro deal looks good

      Phones tend to slow down the older they get due to the OS getting cluttered. Im sure doing a factory reset will bring it back to the original speed.

      Bloatware is different from Xiaomi bloatware. Xiaomi gives you easy option to go to each app and just tap "off" but from security perspective I would not recommend using their apps at all.

      The bloatware you describe is different. When you watch ads, especially in games having ads as business model, you end the adwatching in the Google Play. This is when you get it installed automatically. The ad you watched easily can be different from installed. If this your case, this is not Xiaomi.

        Nup. No turning off, opting out, force stop, deleting or otherwise.

        Crack it and delete it using software is the only option, and then they'll still install apps and packets without permission.

    On paper - the specs for the price are incredible. Marketing is clearly trying to copy apple, if the quality is there who cares.

    I've had the Xs, 12, 14 and now iphone 15 pro max, but looking at this I'm kind of tempted to move from iOS to Android.

    My only concern would be 1. Bloatware apps that you can't remove? My biggest gripe with android in general 2. reliability. Dropped all my iphones, took them through trenches, smashed, scratched.

    Would love someones opinion on xiaomi phones

      The iPhone 17 Pro is at least double the price of this 17T Pro and triple if you count the current promo. With those savings, you could probably buy the 18T/19T Pro if something unfortunate happens to your 17T Pro.

      Unless you're already 'trapped' in the Apple ecosystem? If so, it might not be that easy to switch.

      You can remove bloatware on any android phone. Use Shizuku and canta ( from fdroid ) and you can uninstall anything. Just beware not to install any system app otherwise the OS will crash.

      Stay put. I prefer android and won't touch Xiaomi again. Too much bloatware, doesn't play nicely with every app, and the notes on their data collection are hair raising.

      Having to break into a phone to repeatedly delete insidious apps is bullshit.

    My Huawei p30 still works like a dream but have dropped it a few times. Cracked glass at the back. This looks tempting but I have a bit of pride in my ozbargain phone lasting me since 2018. Using it to write this now.

        My battery is still good. I'm just debating whether I bother fix the back. Leaves a bit of glass if its out of the case. So never out of the case. Gets a bit hot playing games while listening to music etc but that never happens much with work and kids

            @armageddeus: Yeah I was thinking the same thing but 1000 bucks is a lot of moolah to upgrade something that is doing a perfectly functional job. I want it but I got this phone in 2018 or 19 when my previous Huawei was not functioning well.

            The only issue I've had is sometimes it doesn't read the sim card. Particularly after a drop. The crack is on the side where the sim card goes in. This has happened 3 times since 25. Been able to fix in seconds

            I think what will force me is not fixing my error or if this deal gets 200 up votes ozbargain fever may hit.

    I have a 14T pro which has been good but the T series dont have display out or the fancy cameras like the ultra versions.. $1099 is a good price - wanted the Leitzphone but was silly priced for launched - If they had have honoured the birthday voucher I would have bought it, but now I guess I wont bother whilst the 14T is still working…

    I have a mi band 10 but looking to get a watch with GPS. All three of the new have GPS, so wondering how well the heart rate tracking is for all of them? Anyone knows if they are all pretty much the same performance wise? Might grab the watch s5 for nfc but if the tracking is worse, I can live without nfc on my wrist.

      The regular mi band 10 does not have GPS if that's what you mean by all three. It uses your phone's GPS.

      Re: tracking, I'd usually go to Quantified Scientist on YT but don't look like he hasn't done any videos on the Xiaomi watch line, just the mi bands. He's recent vids usually have comparison graphs of everything he's tested so might be something there?

        I saw it said NFC payment is supported for Mastercard and Visa cards on the information page for S5. Although, it said "25. Use of NFC requires a wireless service plan", a bit confused on what that means? Is that just having a working sim card plan on my phone

        I have watched his videos (the reason why I got the Mi Band 10 at the start). But yeah sadly, he hasnt done recent videos for the Redmi and Xiaomi watch series. I hope he does make one now though.

            @McMaferMur: Earlier this year, I asked their chat about the S4 and they said it wasn't supported by any Aus banks. A couple days later that link stopped working locally.

            Using a VPN to access that page shows that Australia isn't supported for the S4. There's no info about the Watch 5 or S5. If it's not using Google Wallet, payment probably isn't supported.
