  • Unpopular opinion, these should be $30…

    No built-in batteries (separate cost)
No hall effect joysticks (stick drift eventually)
    No dongle included
    No Case for the controller.

I say this cos something like the Gamesir T4 lite (which has been $17 in the past has ALL these things) and works with Switch/PC/SteamDeck/Android/iOS etc etc.

    • With the battery this is Ozbargain, everything we own runs on Eneloops AA so thats not a problem.

But I do agree, no hall effect sticks just make these a disposable item for heavy players

      • just buy the officel xbox controler battery pack then you can just charge via the usb port on the controller.

        • I did that. I didn't like the look of the ones that had a separate charging ports.

I didn't get the official charge and play kit. Looks and works the part. Love it.

        • just buy the officel xbox controler battery pack then you can just charge via the usb port on the controller.

Yes, it's not that difficult and works well :).

      • Ah but I've become a lithium AA convert. Lighter and doesn't have the 1.2V issues.

      • Having to stop playing and recharge a battery pack when it goes flat is no fun. Easier to have a spare set of rechargeable batteries ready to go that you can swap to and continue playing.

        • That's why you have more than one controller. I just use the official Microsoft rechargeable battery pack in the Xbox wireless controllers. And if one goes flat i just switch to another controller while the other is behind recharged. It works just like the Dualsense controller in that regard. No having to muck around with AA batteries. In fact i've never had to touch one and i think it's dumb mucking around with AA batteries.

Just shove a rechargeable battery pack in the controller once and then you've got yourself a rechargeable controller just like the Dualsense controller. As soon as one goes flat you just switch to the other controller and plug the charging cable into the USB port on the flat controller to charge it in the meantime. Buying another controller is not that expensive i mean the Xbox Wireless Controller is going to be $65 in the upcoming Big W toy sale on 9th June 2026 and the official rechargeable battery pack is $30.

    • No built-in batteries

      That is actually a pro.

      • I get what you're saying (I've got 3 PS4 controllers from 2015ish… 2 die within an hour and that isn't great. But you need to factor in additional cost for rechargeables/xbox play and charge kit. Brings this close to $90+

Still missing the rest I mentioned

    • yep I always find it annoying but I have always bought the offical xbox battery which allows you to just plug in the controler to usb c and recharge like any other controller. The Dongle you can just buy for PC no big deal and you can pair a few to the same dongle.

no one cares about a case lol but ok.

never had joystick drift before maybe on the old xbox models like gen 1 but nothing with the series x controllers which i have alot of.

      • Is the dongle worth it? I just connect my controller via bluetooth.

        • 100% worth it almost no latency closest thing to wired you will get.its a wireless 2.4ghz connection., bluetooth is very high latency.

        • Bluetooth is fine as long as your adapor is decent. I've got a dongle somewhere but don't bother with.

          Test it yourself and see..

          • @G-Shock: I'm quite okay with my bluetooth. Hasn't affected my gaming experience so far.

          • @G-Shock: if you play games that require low latency simlar to that or wired controllers then bluetooth does not fit the build. Clearly the games you play don't require precision so I would say bluetooth would be fine for you.

            • @kungfuman: Yeah a bit Forza Horizon, some Retro emulators, nothing too fancy.

Mouse and KB better for most shooters I find (not the generation to find a controller easy for GTA etc).

I've got a dongle somewhere, didn't find it any better. - but will find and test again. Can always plug it in too.

You can easily get interference with 2.4Ghz connections moreso than Bluetooth (eg if a microwave is on) but upon checking thru apparently have a proprietary 2.4Ghz protocol.

      • No drift? Every single controller from the big 3 uses old garbage tech that guarantees drift eventually. The MS controllers also have a design flaw where the bumpers will fail eventually as well. It's well documented. Third party controllers are superior purely because MS are stingy. Hall effect sticks should be on all MS controllers at a bare minimum.

    • Truee. I went with an 8bitdo pro 3 instead.

      • I use an Xbox control for my kids when they play Minecraft. Best thing about it, is that the Xbox buttons show correctly in the game itself.

Can the 8Bitdo controls do this?

        • Yeah, any xinput controller will show the xbox buttons on Minecraft. That being said the 8bitdo Pro 3 won't connect to an Xbox.

          • @LilSlip: Thanks mate. Couldn't find a way to accurately google what I meant.

My use case there was Minecraft on PC.

            Happy with the pro 3?

    • my only concern with the competition is you cant run 4 controllers off 1 usb dongle for PC! you can with xbox controllers.. once the competition has that ill be onboard. also never had any drift and my controllers are years and years old..

      • Why hy do you need 4 Xbox controllers connected to the PC? I have a PS5 and a Series X controller connected. Using the Xbox controller for emulations and PS5 for PC games. I never have any controller run out of battery while gaming.

        • Party games

        • couch co op. i run a laptop as my console. play lots of Switch Emulation and Wii U emulation 4 player games. And a heap of steam and the like too.

          • @Sage222: sounds like what i want to do!
what emulators and games do you suggest for 4p couch games

            • @TeutonMaster: Rounds. Lego party. Super smash Bros. Rayman legends. Trine. Mario kart. All the super Mario's! Boomerang fu! Bobblebattle. Delivery service. And heaps more!

      • I cant remember one time in the last 20 years I had 4 gamers in my home that all wanted to play a 4 play co op game. Thats a very specific and rare scenario. Unless of course you have a huge family or group of friends. I have neither…

        • 4 gamers in my home that all wanted to play a 4 play co op game. Thats a very specific and rare scenario

I think you might have forgotten about the 2.5 million Australian families currently raising kids.

          • @Nom: People still have kids? And 4 kids? Yes I admit woefully unaware of how common this is.

          • @Nom: spot on! me and 2 kids = 3 controllers. usually a friend around too. 4. 1 usb dongle. 4 controllers. job done..

    • Lol everything should be free, ok

    • If you have big hands, the xbox controller is the best IMO

    • Eventually, my neon green one was drifting within 3 weeks. Can't believe how bad they have gotten.

    • Best I can do is $28

    • Have tried to fix the drift on one of my controllers recently… what a nightmare. I agree with you, they’re overpriced

    • You're dreaming, $30??

    • No dongle included

      Is official still available anywhere?

Any recommendation on 3rd party ones?

    • no gyro support either

    • Dose Gamesir T4 lite work with Xbox S and Xbox X? can you send the link to $17?

    • The fact that these don't have built-in batteries are one of the reasons why I love this controller

    • Hmm. I got a xbox controller in 2020 which has a built in rechargeable battery with usb c port. Did they downgrade?

  • Whats a good battery to use with these?

    • Eneloops

      • Do i have to use a separate charger for these? I have them in my controller and they die after 5 mins

        • They shouldn't, how old are they? I have ones I've used for many years and they hold charge just fine. I use an old Intellicharger i4.

          • @theory: About 4 years old. I never really used them till now.

        • they do die quickly. but for me it's because rechargeables have a lower voltage than alkaline/microsoft square lithium battery.

the battery indication is like 88% with freshly charged eneloop pro, and they die (controller turns off) right after I see 50% left.

for me the eneloop pro last a couple hours though (just judging by using it on and off for weeks not exact on hours).

    • Ive got the ikea multi charger with their higher powered AA rechargables and they have been great.

    • Get the official Xbox rechargeable battery. You can recharge it via the usb port of the controller. Best IMO

  • these are full of issues

    • agreed, I have stick drift on one I bought 6 months ago. very much recommend whoever takes up this deal to keep receipts

    • What issues? Never had a problem and they just work (use on PC)

Stick drift cab happen on any controller over time. Some people use way more than others and/or don't look after their stuff.

Either way it may be worth getting JB care, they swap it for new after 1,2, X years with little resistance.

      • Stick drift cab happen on any controller over time. Some people use way more than others and/or don't look after their stuff.

No, drift doesn't happen with TMR or hall effect joysticks, which all high quality controllers now use. It's a solved issue that Microsoft appears to unwilling to address.

      • Stick drift is going to happen, it's a matter of when. It's physics, hall effect lasts way, way longer than what MS use. Look it up.

    • I heard about them as well before buying. but I haven't experienced the first one "stick drift" and fixed the second issue myself "sticky trigger".

when i got the sticky trigger problem I looked it up and found a 2 min fix on youtube.

just use a plastic card to pry open the controller handle, (it's all plastic joints no tools) and you will see the thin piece of foam microsoft used to pad the trigger when pressed. this has got smushed and revealed some of the adhesive, which causes the trigger to stick to it a tiny bit. so just remove that, clean it a bit with a tissue so no more sticky.

then do the same for other side (other side wasn't sticky, but might as well). the controller makes a slight noise without the foam there (quiet enough not to bother anyone), but removing foam doesn't affect the button or anything at all. if you were going to get expert on it, you could have but some wider but equally thick durable foam adhesive foam piece there instead, so they don't move when smushed. but idgaf.

for me was def worth doing rather then get a replacement from amazon (which I could have) and deal with the same issue again (I could tell by how skinny the foam was that it would happen eventually).

I use mine only occasionally for 2 ipad games. but I have had the controller for over 2 years.

      • A lot of times the plastic snaps inside the bumper as it's poorly designed on an angle. Can only be replaced and it will happen again eventually as the poor design remains.

        • ok not sure exactly but it hasn't happened to mine.

I saw inside as well it's not like it was a "near miss" the trigger inside part just hits the flat area on the inside of the controller, I couldn't really see it breaking or anything.

  • i thought this is normal price for years now, you can buy generic battery pack if you want it to be charged by USB-C

  • Here's me still using a Dualshock3 for PC on the original battery 15 years later lol

  • Great, reminder set for 28 degrees shoppers protection

  • Is there a cheaper or better option if i want to use them with an xbox?

    • If you dont mind it being wired, this has hall effect sticks and is cheaper. It also has pretty rgb rings if you are into that sort of thing.

  • Once you try other controllers you will never go back to these. Flydigi, Easysmx Etc

    • Everyone goes on about 8bitdo but the price has crept up to $99 too. I'd try one for$40

  • Black Ops 7 for $34 isnt a bad deal either.. I know its shit, I know the new one is coming out in Oct, I played it on release on gamepass.. But thats still pretty damn cheap

    • You’re right. It’s shit. I played it on game pass but would never ever buy it separately.

    • Agreed; great price.
Campaign was terrible, but Multiplayer & Zombies I'm still enjoying!

But also yeah, as you said, with the next one dropping in 5-6 months, a lot of the current player base will likely move forward with the release.

  • Is there any thoughts on whats the best replacement for the old Elite controller - I use the underside paddles for things like sprint, duck roll etc, but alas it is no longer very happy with stick drift and one of the haptics no longer working…

    • I was looking into getting a controller and people have been recommending Gamesir Cyclone 2 which has 2 back paddles.

      • The Gamesir Cyclone 2 is a fantastic controller that I'd recommend, but its 2 back buttons are just standard buttons. They're not like the back paddles on Xbox Elite controllers at all.

  • In store too or only online?

  • Im a fan of the Xbox controllers for PC gaming. As someone else mentioned when you stack them againsts an 8bitdo ultimate that actually comes with hall effect sticks, the price is hard to justify, the 8bitdo has dropped down to around $52.00 on this site in the past. I still like having the officially licensed stuff at the right price.

  • Agree with comments here, quality of Xbox controllers has dropped waaaaaay off over the years. I had an xbox 360 which i played regularly with mates for about a decade, and i don't think i ever had to replace any of the controller, and thats with plenty of long nights of 4 players mashing wildly in couch co-op, struggling in vain to complete the 'expert campaign mode' on the original "Left 4 Dead". If that isn't the ultimate litmus test for controller quality then i don't know what is.

Meanwhile nowadays, with my Xbox One and Series X, i get about 18 months tops out of a controller before one of the buttons inevitably starts sticking, or not working, or controller drift sets in, and thats with boring mature 'grown up' use too, no kids using it, no throwing or smashing controllers, just occasional standard use.

End of old man "…they dont make em' like they used too.." rant.

  • For those recommending other controllers, that’s great but remember that controllers are quite a personal choice. Yes there are objective pros like Hall effect sticks etc but comfort tops all else. Xbox controllers are just simply very comfortable

  • This will do perfect for my family, will buy 3 extra controllers so we can play Lego/Pummel Party!

  • Anyone that likes dongled controller: dongles are 'evil', because when you lose them you cry

  • Useless 3 gen old tech recycle bullsh!t fake controller wannabe, shouldn't cost more than $20
    Do not buy

  • I’m noticing a concerning trend. All the new controllers are removing the accessories port.
Probably a minority here, but I have a chatpad on every controller I own and use them for in game chat.
This is very disappointing for me.

  • Shame this doesn't have co pilot button with monthly subscription 😆

  • All standard colours. The cool ones are $85+

  • Check out GameSir Cyclone 2 PC Controller, much better in every single way, and the shape is almost the same as the xbox one. I owned one and will never go back to xbox stock ones again.

    • Just had a look, seems fine, $89, do they ever go on sale?
Built in rechargeable battery is worth $30 anyway.

Is it 3-4x as good as the 8bitdo 2 for $25-30.
