  • This or the Edge 50 Neo?

    • Edge 50 Neo is a much better phone but it's about $150 more right now.

      • I got Edge 50 Neo for $120 after tourist refund scheme.

$200 cash on [eBay Plus] Motorola Edge 50 Neo 12GB RAM/256GB Storage $200 Delivered @ Sydney Mobiles eBay - OzBargain.

And they listed the original RRP of $700 so got $70 GST refund.

        • Don't they check your tax invoice and then return the GST you paid? and also the invoice must be more than $300 from one store?

          • @alexm1: For some reason the store printed the price as $700 on the tax invoice so I got $70 back.

            Sorry I got it for $130. $200 - $70 is $130 not $120…… Maths!

        • Very nice

      • What about a Nothing phone 3A?

Finder / Optus $200 gift card deal..thing.. is something like minimum cost $350 - with a $200 giftcard (and some pfa canceliing phone plans etc).

Also, any idea if their are double ended USB C ports to add wireless charging to phones without it? I see AliExpress have a phone cover with built in wireless charging for $7. But it connects to your USB C port, so you would need to remove the cover to access the port….

But if there was something that plugs into the usb, but still leaves a USB on the other side….

        • Do you have the link of the nothing phone promotion?

          • @Sutra: I found it from the Finder / Optus long life deal on here yesterday. Scroll down to the bottom and select load more. Then sort by price low to high. Scroll down until you find the $200 giftcard promo (might be able to select finder special in the filter).

A Motorola was $360 odd, the Nothing phone3a was around $400 minimum cost.

      • And this should have the bigger screen?

        • Yep this G56 has .3" bigger screen

  • Step up from the G84?

    • No.

    • Camera is average

    • I presume G8x > G5x

    • Read a review about being a step down from the G54, less water protection etc .

      • The IP68/69 full water and dust resistance G56 is a step up from the water repellent IP52 G54.

  • there's a $10 bonus challenge at shop back right now, I just earned it. I lost my phone 2 nights ago and stumbled across shopback 12% Cashback and this bonus. I saved around $40 on a $259 oppo, also reduced $40. Same phone as I lost

    • Have you tried calling it? I can if you want, what's the number?

      • Last night, I should try again. Last remember using it at maccas, went back, they say they don't have it

        • You don't have find my phone? It's Google locate thing.

If you went search "find my phone" should be the top result. If that helps

          • @teereb: I need to learn how to use that

            • @screensaver: On your new phone, just look up the app "find hub" and your old phone should be listed there.
Don't delay too much, it may not work once the battery is flat

    • Where did you get the Oppo from?

      • big w and got lucky with cashback

        • Is oppo a6x currently on sale at 259? I guess you like it. A review when you have time. Thanks

          • @catmao: I had the A5, now have the A6. It does what I need and is not too expensive. I cant say much else. Saved on cashback upsized. I got previous phones at big w because of the old 10% off they used to have with everyday rewards

    • Get a chain ⛓️ if this is common or wear shirts with pockets and keep it there.

      • I glue mine to my wrist like a watch. My step count has gone through the roof!

  • Will it steal all the affiliate revenue or is this feature not available on this model?

    • Will it steal all the affiliate revenue or is this feature bug not available on this model?

      Text fixed.

      • Claiming ignorance is one thing… but believing the claim is another

  • is that the same one that was for this price in December that people were having trouble securing?
oh nvm it was the Motorola moto G86 Power with that massive batttery

    • I grabbed that and have it as my daily. Absolutely love the phone. It has replaced my previous phone which I also loved - Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G. Keep an eye out for deals as it is well worth grabbing in my opinion. That being said you absolutely have to replace the camera app with the GCam port to get the Google Pixel Camera software. Makes a massive difference. Very easy to do on motorola phones too.

      • i think its perfect for travel, coz for travel u need something that has huge battery which it does, and u want it to be cheap which it is, so if it gets damaged or lost or stolen, you still have ur original phone in the hotel safe (hopefully lol) but even so i usually like to gravitate towards a cheap pixel, reason being is it has the best camera out of cheap android phones around the below $500 mark without a doubt (399 pixel 9a deal posted last week), when i go on holiday i wana capture moments at the best quality possible. for me its worth paying on top for $200ish cheap android another $200-300 more just for better camera, if you dont take a good camera with you while travelling, (and you dont wana whip out the promax iphone) your next best bet is a handheld camera or osmo pocket, but like me if you only wana carry one device id go pixel. i much rather a 400 dollar gets lost or stolen vs a 1800-2400 iphone

        • Yeah - as I say, though, just download the GCam Port and you get Pixel Camera App and the software which transforms the Moto camera. Seriously the difference is night and day. Super easy to do, no rooting of OS or anything.

      • Would you mind sharing what exact version (and where from) works with G86 the best? Last time I looked, there were so many options that it was really confusing.

        • Sure. I'll give the long version for others who are less familiar too, but links further below to the version and source as you ask

          What is GCam Port Anyway?

Basically there are a number of developers who create ports for the Google Pixel Camera app to non-Pixel Phones. BSG is one of the main devs who continues to create ports for the Google Camera Software (GCam).

Given Motorola provides a pretty stock Android experience you can install almost any version and it works just as an app without any need for additional config files.

Note: Each time a new Pixel camera software comes out there follows a release of the GCam port for it (it the devs keep things up). However, not all features are baked in at once. It seems the UX kind of gets matched first and a number of the basic functions and then as time goes on, more additional features are added.

Therefore whilst the latest version exists (v9.7) - it is a little limited in some areas compared to the actual Pixel version and compared to prior GCam port releases which have received more dev updates. Hope that makes sense.

          How Do I install?

If you read this page - and even watch the video on it before doing anything - you will have a much clearer understanding of what to do. It is very simple overall. https://gcamapk.io/google-camera-for-motorola-moto-g86-power….

Once you have downloaded the apk (source below for the version I have, or you can click through on the link above to get v9.7) then follow theinstructions in the link above from 'How to Install Google Camera APK on Motorola Moto G86 Power?' onwards you should be fine.

I am no expert and got it working straight away. Do feel free to DM me if you have any issues and I can share what I did but note, I found Copilot/ChatGPT was very helpeful when I asked for clarification and assistance(!)

          But Which Version?

I personally would recommend going with the version below (v8.9), rather than the one on that link although the 9.7 works well and is a nice UX it was just missing a couple of features for me (mainly around night photos which are insanely good with the GCam port).

          Actual apk name: MGC_8.9.097_A11_V25_snap.apk

          • The V25 build
          • The A11 compatibility layer (best for modern non‑Pixel phones)
          • The 'snap' package name
          • It is the most feature‑rich BSG port that is clean and usable

What you get with this specific build

          • Full Astrophotography mode
          • Full HDR+ / HDR+ Enhanced / HDRnet
          • Motion Photos + Top‑Shot‑style frame selection
          • Advanced noise model + merge method options
          • RAW controls
          • Video session ID controls
          • Lens correction + tuning options
          • More mod features than any 9.x build

          Where From?

[Edit: Updating formatting due to large wall of text on first attempt!]

  • Is this better than Samsung A17?
I don't like A17 as everytime I swap between the apps, the apps will restart from beginning.

    • A17 only has 4GB RAM so it can't run multiple apps smoothly

      • But it has long term updates etc, Motorola won't unless up the price chain.

        • Motorola G56 has 4 years of updates, Samsung A17 has 6 years. No one is going to use a slow phone like the A17 for 6 years

  • Ohh I do need a new phone and this seems better then my current one. Thanks.

  • you forgot in the description the shake for torch function. so handy

    • Agreed, have this on the g75 - for something so basic I'm surprised my previous redmi notes have no had this feature

      • I have a 4+ year old Motorola bought on clearance and it has it. Very basic model but power.

        • My first Motorola was a Motog8lite for $75 from target about 5 years ago. The phone was OK but after it died I was annoyed with every phone afterwards that didn't have the torch/shake function.
Glad I'm back on the motorola bandwagon again.

    • do you use the "wobble" for camera?

      • not DarwinBoy but, yes, I do! Shake for torch is super handy, and flip for camera a close second!

      • Yep. But I reckon I use the torch 10x more then camera.
        Both so handy.
I get caught out and annoyed when I use my work Samsung phone for the camera and for a second I'm like what's wrong with my phone….

  • Does anyone know if the G56 has the same bluetooth issues as the G75? Referring to when it seems the driver has put themself on mute and can only hear the other person

    • Is that happening to you too??? It always happens with my g75 and I thought it was my car bt that was shit!

Any idea on this one… looks suspicious…

  • I have the g54 with 8gb of ram, which is pretty solid for most things. I'm sure this is great as well

  • My wife had one of these, it was pretty damn terrible. She ended up upgrading to a 6 year old S20FE.

    • Thanks for the review i think will pass

    • What exactly makes it terrible?

      • It is supposed to be worse that the g54, lots of cost cutting but if you use it basically I don't think you would care.

Apparently downgraded water protection too. So don't dunk it.

    • Oh man I'm still happy with my S9…

Samsung flagships seem to last forever. Waiting for mine to die so I can move on, but the battery is still fine.

  • I got the g86 power, it's a really solid phone Motorola build decent phones at a good price

  • Looks like a good deal. I haven't used this model but have a G54. It's a good device, the OS is fairly clean. It has moto apps but they aren't too bad. Physically looks nice, good design and get security updates for 3yrs. There are phones with much better cameras but if your not too fussed, I recommend it.

Would definitely get another moto and hoping they make a smaller size.

  • Suggestion …OK for a travel only mobile
Bought … Moto G57 with esim facility
and will leave all travel apps. on it
If it gets damaged, stolen, etc… no big deal

  • Suggestion..
Next week probably JB, Harvey Norman etc.
    Might price match Big W
If you have bought discounted gift cards from
Coles or woollies then will get further discount

  • Should I spend a bit more on g60 fusion?

  • I bought one of these a while ago at full price, have to say, brilliant phone for what it is and compared to my work Iphone 12, a lot better.

Insanely good battery life, travelled though UK/France/Germany/Italy/Qatar with this phone over Christmas and was navigating / whatsapp and family link on all day with e-sims and the thing was solid… After a full day of touring, buying tickets, getting directions etc I'd still have 50% battery left at night.

I'm not sure why anyone is saying the cameras are poor, I tnink it's a case that standards are so hign now that "poor" is relative, they're better than anything on phones 5 years ago, anbd perfectly adequate.

CPU speed, is a little lacking. I find a couple of apps drag. Most are fine, but Tesla app in particular has been a lot slower lately.

One thing I've found to be "missing" us UltraWideBand support, I cannot install the BMW/MINI key software on THIS phone and am probably looking for an upgrade at some point which has this support… in the mean time I have to carry a car key like some caveman.

Edit > one thing you're missing out on for this price is wireless charging, but TBH, it charges so fast and has such a large battery that isn't an issue.

    • at full price

Please hand in your OzB membership.
