  • Just tracked $38 cash back through TopCashback. So brings it down to $266. Not a bad price for 256gb/8gb ram!

    • Don't be surprised if it gets denied, conditions specifically state that it's not eligible with price match.

      • Weird - check this deal info: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/953149. Fingers crossed, it has tracked already.

      • Don't be surprised if it gets denied

Not sure why you'd want to risk losing the cashback just to save $5 on a price beat ???

        • Might not be worth the risk tbh - but mine did track within 10 minutes after using both Price Beat and coupon

          • @sdaveo: Please refer to the post description. Price beat and code INSTANT are both eligible with cashback:

✅ Price Beat Button (automated) is ELIGIBLE for cashback as long as it tracks. Confirmed with TA.

Stack with code INSTANT ($40 off $300+ spend or $60 off $400+ spend).

            • @trixieb: Well when I read those words 'as long as it tracks' it makes me feel like using the button might somehow narrow the tracking chance 😅

              • @sdaveo: Automated price beat is eligible and cashback has been paid as confirmed in the TopCashback TGG posts.

  • Is this the matte one?
    Edit: yes

    Anti-fingerprint, Paper-like Anti-glare

  • Just googled - The MediaTek Dimensity 6300 is most closely matched to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 in terms of overall performance and feature set

    • And that's a good thing?

      • or a bad thing?

        • SD 8 gen 6 is slated to be SD's latest and greatest mobile SoC (coming out sometime this year).

The SD 7 line has always been quite modest compared to the SD 8 line

I can only assume SD 4 is the bargain bin chips and being a gen 2 it must be like a 3 year old chip. (And yep searching online is came out in 2023)

It's slow compared to new parts, it's fast enough for most things except heavy gaming and make sure you debloat the crap out of it as cheapo tablets come loaded with junk that'll slow the tablet down further.

          • @Some Random Guy: Do they say how to debloat?

            • @carrawa: Debloating is the act of deleting/uninstalling junk software that comes preinstalled. Best to leave it to someone you know who's my technology minded as uninstalling the wrong thing can either do nothing and be a waste of time or can soft-brick your device.

  • Thanks OP, surely this is a better deal that the Aldi one tomorrow. Pulled the trigger.

    • Agreed! Doesn't come with the case - but if you're copping the cash back, it's only $66 more for double the storage and ram!

      • Does the case have a keyboard? Do they make a keyboard for this?

        • This model from GG doesn't come with a case. The upcoming deal from Aldi does but with less memory and storage. Was just having a look around for case options, with a keyboard found this: https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/lenovo-ide…

          • @sdaveo: The Aldi only has a folio case, not a keyboard case. I can't really do without a keyboard, so probably better off with this one if I had to choose. I guess I could look out for the keyboard cover in the hope that it drops in price (97 bucks is a bit of a sting)

          • @sdaveo: $97.00

  • Thanks! Bought! Chose not to potentially compromise cashback/hassle for the sake of $5.

Here is my badge, sorry everyone

  • Thx OP. Was looking for a budget tablet for my brother for some light multitasking and notetaking - this is literally perfect!

  • isn't a 5 year old ipad for $300 better?

    • yes.

Ipad will get updates for 5+ years.

As an android fanboy - I have learnt my lesson in regards to tablets and lack of support.

      • My iPad is 8 years old and still gets security updates. Not sure why Android manufacturers don't support their platforms for a decade.

        • Exactly….
If the manufacturers can't do it, then Google/Android should just do it - We are talking software, so there is very little excuse tbh.
I would just use the $350, save another $150 and buy an ipad.

      • I don't understand why people care about updates, especially apple updates.

IOS has been looping the same feature set for years and is consistently behind android in UI/accessibility/general breadth of features available to tweak.

I hear apple is making everyone's lockscreen look like glass or something?

Also security updates literally do not matter, especially on a phone. Everything is done through a browser (every phone app is just a skin on a browser), plus users never jailbreak or root their phone so malware cant get root access. I was running a rooted poco x3 NFC on android 9 with a custom ROM up until the start of this year. I only switched phone as the battery was getting old and I couldn't be bothered swapping it out plus the moto g86 deal was a bargain. Like no one is secretly hacking your phone that is a pipe dream. If someone hacked into your phone is was either because you installed something sketchy or your WiFi is unencrypted.

        • No one is talking about phones, which many people upgrade constantly.
We are talking about Tablets, that often last for years and years.

In addition while you might love the idea of running Android 9 - I certainly do not.
I prefer dark mode, improved connection with satellite networks (especially useful for natural disasters), health connect (useful for people with illnesses), granular privacy options, 5g, Ultra HDR for cameras that can use it, option to have extreme battery life settings (because you obviously have never run out of battery), lockscreen widgets, audio sharing, desktop mode, an embedded photo picker (useful for photo editing).
None of these features have anything to do with security.

Also updates help people with disabilities by adding multiple new services (android 12, Android 14, etc) - but who cares because you obviously don't have disabilities.

I have no idea why you don't want google to provide updates to android devices - it might even reduce e~waste as people would not need to upgrade to get a feature they may require.

Why do you even think that people are the same as you or should be forced into doing what you have done (which works for your particular circumstances). And lets not talk about how many corporations REQUIRE certain security settings on the mobile device. These may employ upto 500 million people worldwide. Lets force all these people to buy new devices.

      • Except a 5 year old iPad has already had 5 years of updates, how much longer will it be supported?

Android tablets I agree will get a LOT less, but you also don't seem to get locked out of using particular apps as much for not being on the latest OS.

This thing was released March 2025 with Android 14 and ships with 15 now. Should get 16, highly doubt it will get 17.

Will a 5 year old iPad get the next PadOS? What's the battery life like after 5 years?

The old iPad might be better, I haven't had an iPad in way longer than 5 years so I have no idea.

Definitely worth thinking about battery and updates when you're buying used tech in a closed ecosystem for $300 though.

And if you already have other apple products it becomes even more worthwhile because you're used to the ecosystem, are likely paying for iCloud etc.

        • I can only talk about my experiences with android devices.

I have bought lenovo, samsung (though quite long ago), and chinese tablets (alldocube - which people post here regularly) in addition to hp chromebooks. So I think I have some experienced enough to talk about the ecosystem in general. I have found the devices to be less well built than apple products, in addition there are almost no ability to repair android tablets and most 3rd party accessories are not available.

Most apple products get updates for 6 years: So $500/6 = $83
Most android products get updates for 3 years: Sp $344/3 = $114.
Even if it lasts 4 years (a long time for android devices by my experience) its still more expensive than Apple.

In addition you app selection is much better on the apple device as app makers usually completely ignore Android tablets.
such as drawing apps (Pro Create), Logic Pro/GarageBand, Finalcut (gets features before), Noteability, Shapr3D.
So ipads are much more useful than android tablets. This is quite important if you plan to give your 'hand me down' tablet to your kids, etc.

I was a BIG android fanboi for a long time, but the fact I could run MacBook Air (11-inch, Early 2014 - and yes I know its a laptop but the following point still remains) these days really opened my eyes to the quality apple has with it products, and I do not see it being replicated across android devices (Samsung might be differnt).

          • @Ti-au: I am using Samsung (even in Samsung I try to be exclusive to galaxy S series which is the top tier products), my experience is that their build quality and update regime is on par with if not better than apple. This applies to both galaxy S series phones and galaxy tab s series tablets. They both are as expensive (or sometimes even more expensive than) apple so this is to be expected. Comparing apple products to lower tier Samsung (A series for example) or other cheap android (such as the one in this post) isn't fair.

    • So how many years will this get updates for and which and the same question for your 5 year old apple tablet?

  • Just collected and the matte screen is actually so nice. Also very pleasantly surprised to find an actual charger in the box and not just a cable!

  • How long is the tablet (Android OS) supported for?

    • No way of knowing for sure. Released March 2025 with Android 14, shipping now with the latest Android 15.

I highly doubt it would get 17, and there's no way to be sure if it will get 16.

Security updates are a separate matter though and you'll often get them long after the OS version is supported.

      But yeah no guarantees.
As far as I'm aware there's no update guarantees on iOS either and people just go off of what has happened previously. Could be wrong though don't have much to do with apple stuff nowadays, maybe it's improved.

    • Lenovo states updates to Android 17 and security patches to 2029

      • Have you got alink specific to this tablet??

        • On the GG page under the section that says 'Information from Lenovo' it's just after the accessories section. Also on their website in the same section for this model

  • So this is just the Xiaoxin Pad 11 Aussie version with different ram/ssd sizes, right?

    • Yes, more or less. This has english OS plus matte screen vs chinese OS and glossy screen.

  • I'm waiting for the Pro version.

    • How much extra approximately for that?

      • I think the ATL was $350 plus 8% ShopBack during the last Boxing Day sales https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/942042
Unfortunately I don't think it's been anywhere near that since - it's currently around the $500 mark.

  • Any good for drawing?

  • Anyone know of any cheap tablets with HDMI out?

    • Get a USBC to HDMI cable?

      • Yeah but most of the cheap ones don’t support hdmi out over usbc

  • Was a bit hesitant due to no expandable memory and brand lenovo (has history of spyware).
But I've been waiting a while for a 8gb ram tablet at this price. So just bought. Thanks OP.
Just gonna use it for android games.

    • Pretty sure it has expandable memory. The Good Guys doesn't say it on their page, but specs say it does

      https://www.gsmarena.com/lenovo_idea_tab_5g-14215.php

Plus one of the photos shows a removable slot for SD, but could be generic photos.

Can anyone confirm that this model has an SD slot?

  • What's wrong with the good guys? They advertise 1 hour click and collect. Placed order in the afternoon and no confirmation yet. You need to pull your socks up.

    • Yep same here, placed order around 3.30pm, and still waiting for a sms

      • After 1030 am order it's next business day collect

        • Then it's not a 1h C&C. I mean officeworks can do it, why can't GG do it

          • @ShouldIBuyIt: I just cancelled my order. No update this morning either. Just a waste of time. JB Hifi usually notify you within a couple minutes.

            • @unity1: Got the SMS around 2.30pm. wasn't in a rush, with the cashback code expired, no one was going to buy the stock in store… Better that the Aldi deal confirmed to be 4g RAM

  • No 5 gee

  • Does it come with card slot or any similar ones with Sim card 4G/5G capability?

    • No, this is not an LTE device, but I believe there is a SD card slot

  • Cashback has expired

  • If buying for small children - beware that the charging port won't hold up to the everyday wear and tear that the children will subject it to.

  • Anyone found any decent deals on a suitable case for a teen? i dont trust they will not drop it :)

  • Invalid promo code

  • TCB hasn't tracked ☹️

  • TCB hasn't tracked for me either - always seems to be a problem with TCB, or is that just my experience?

    • No issues, $38.07 tracked. Sorry

  • Hmm, checked the warranty in the Lenovo vantage app and there is less than 7 months left. Anyone else experiencing the same?

    • Does that matter at all?

Its a proper retailer and they have to honor the warranty either way.
