  • I keep forgetting which is considered the best oralb model by ozb community

    • This one imo, I've owned a bunch of blue oral B ones and the battery always does about 11 months in.

      • What the?
I've had high and low end models, all of them have had batteries lasting years with multiple users

        • Just to clarify, I've only had low - medium end models. The low end ones started showing significant battery issues about 11 months in. By significant battery issues I mean the toothbrush doesn't buzz/ vibrate at the same speed as a new one, even after 12 hours charge. But YMMV!

      • 11 months? do you brush once every month?!

        • Haha, nope ! I used to brush once a day, now I brush twice a day, maybe they were overcharging ? I'm not sure, I just know I personally wouldn't recommend them.

      • I'm on a new Oral B but my last, blue, one lasted at least 5 years - admittedly, the battery was on its last legs

        • Damn 5 years is forever !

Do you know around when you started noticing the decline ?

          • @TerryJustTerry: The battery was failing for ages before it finally packed up. It was usable though.

          • @TerryJustTerry: I must be lucky as I've had a Oral B Pro 7000 for over 10 years and it still works fine.

            • @infringement payer: Now you are just boasting :/

              • @TerryJustTerry: Haha not at all, it was/is my first electric toothbrush so I don't know what to expect. I came here thinking maybe I should buy a new one in case it dies but it hasn't yet.

I share it with my wife (we change the toothbrush heads), and it pretty much just sits on the charger 24/7 so never had a charging/low battery issue (unless we are on a trip).

      • With mine, I thought it was the battery. Til I got another one and found it was the charger.

      • Weird, only one I ever had that stopped was one I dropped on hard tile and case split.

My current one is like 5+ years old

    • From memory the Pro 2 / 2000 models and above all have lithium-ion batteries, compared to the others which have NiMh batteries. I’d get the 2000, it’s the cheapest with lithium-ion battery and can be had for $50-$70 on sale

      • yeah true i dont like slow charging

        • Pretty sure charging speed is the same across all electric toothbrushes regardless of what cells they use. The main benefit with li-ion is they don’t discharge as quickly as NiMh when not in use. NiMh could be nearly fully depleted if left off charge for weeks, where as li-ion will retain most of its charge if left unused for months

    • iO3 is the one I recommend to all my patients - specialist periodontist

      • Ohhh interesting, I've always been curious of the IO range but never pulled the trigger. Do you mind sharing why this one in particular?

It's actually on a great sale ATM too ! 56% off!

        • Research show it's better than the conventional oral b electric toothbrushes

          https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11339098/

I wouldn't recommend anything more advanced the iO3 since extra features become an unnecessary expense. iO3 over iO2 because of a more advanced pressure sensor that helps with those who have been told they over brush, as well as, not brushing well enough.

Catch an iO3 on sale for no more than $100. As for replacement heads, if used properly, you should be getting 6-12 months out of it.

          • @lennyduo: thanks i'll setup ozb notification on io3

          • @lennyduo: Oh so like 3 months per head?

            • @ATTS: 6-12months per head if you are using it properly,

      • The head replacements make the iO series a bit too pricy
I think a top end brush like the 8500 I put above is probably better financially overall

      • I've been procrastinating purchasing a new electric toothbrush for 2 years because I'm too lazy to research. I'll take your word for this, thanks

  • Great price, i bought it for $50 from amazon a few months ago, and its a great little tooth brush. Very slow charging though

    • Ohhh interesting, do you brush your teeth twice a day or more frequently?

  • My oral b 2000 just died :(
Saw my old invoice got it 5 years ago for $70
Won’t be getting that same toothbrush with the same price

So yeah bought this one for now

    • Button failure?
Seems to be the way these die in my experience.
No matter the battery tech (I've had Lithium, NiMH and AA brushes over the years), it's the button that kills the brush.

      • Nah button works, just eventually died but can’t charge. I tried cleaning the bottom and charger (tried another toothbrush on charger and works) but yeah doesn’t charge anymore 😢

        • Try replacing the battery

          • @wheresmymoney: Never though of that, is it that easy to just replace it?

            Just asked AI but

            The basic method is:

            Dismantle handle
Desolder old battery and other connections from PCB
Remove charging coil, pressure warning light, pressure switch, PCB and battery
            Replace battery
            Reassemble PCB and other parts
Solder in connections for parts and new battery
            Reassemble handle

I haven’t done any soldering since high school 😂 but I don’t have a soldering unit so yeah replacing it is out of the question

            • @prankster: You pretty much have to destroy the brush to get to the battery.
              Not worth the hassle.

            • @prankster: Depends on model. The IO series doesn't require desoldering. Many tutorial videos are on YouTube

              • @wheresmymoney: Oh yes looks like this is the next series.

It’s all good had lots of head replacements so just went for the oral b 800 for now ✌️

    • I had the same model at the same price and it just died too. I got this one but didn't like that it didn't have the pressure sensor and sensitive mode so palmed it off to my dad and got the iO3. Looks like the iO3 is the successor to the 1500/2000 at probably the same price point relative to 5 years ago.

  • This or the $300 Sonicare 🤔

  • Are these Lithium-ion (Li-ion) or Nickel-Metal Hydride (NiMH)?

    • Appears to be NiMH.

    • From memory it’s the Pro 2 / 2000 models and greater than have lithium-ion

    • NiMH unfortunately.

I bought this back in 2022, and back then the Pro 800 was a Type 3767 handle, which did have the Li-ion battery and 3 different brushing modes. It also worked with my wireless display from an older model (Triumph 5000). Today, it looks like the Pro 800 is the Type 3756, which is NiMH.

  • Does anyone know if this one has the 3 power modes like the Oral-B Smart 1? It's an incredibly annoying function when you want to turn it off and you have to cycle through the modes.

  • Do batteries stay good in storage?

    • NiMh drops charge rather quickly compared to li-ion when not used

  • Why models would you recommend for children 6-8 years old?

  • Hi OP,

Can you confirm if this model has a quadrant timer? I was about to buy one yesterday but the guy at Shaver Shop said it is 2 min only. I believe it has a pro timer which buzzes every 30 seconds.

    • I'll confirm for you. At the end of the 2 minutes you will hear it buzz 4 times. But it will continue to operate until you turn it off

    • I bought one recently (2 weeks ago) which seems different to Mavericks, mine buzzes every 30 seconds.

      • Yes it does but after 2 minutes it does the 4 buzzes consecutively to signify the 2 minute cycle.

  • I had the oral pro smart 3000, Li-ion battery, 3-4 users in the family, ~2min twice a day each, i like to use the professional mode (faster rotation), its been 2 years now and flashes all lights after each use…even on 12hr+ charges. Looks like near end of life.

This one looked like a good replacement, but considering its NiMH, id rather invest in Li-ion. NiMH recharges slower and discharges faster, id have to be charging it all day every day, whereas the Li-ion i rechargd it 1-2 times a week.

  • Hi,

I'm looking for an Oral-B electric toothbrush with lithium battery, pressure sensor and the old style toothbrush heads (not curved at the end) as we've already got lots of new heads.

It seems like Oral-B has stopped making this? If not, which model can I buy?

    Thanks!

    • According to cincotta chemist the pro 800 has lithium and pressure sensor with old head, I can't confirm though !

      Source

  • According to AI - Yes, the Oral-B Pro 800 features a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery.

    • My AI says NiMH.

Pro series often NiMH. Smart and iO series Li-ion. Im guessing that how they can make them cheaper?

  • I'm looking at getting a new electric toothbrush right now, so that's convenient timing.

I find that the weepholes in the Oral-B heads fill up with gunk after a month, even with proper rinsing. Though, if I admit I don't pull the heads off to let them dry or use paper towels.

I found the Philips Sonicare 2000 for $39 also at the Shavershop. What do people think about the Sonicare?

    • I take off the heads, dry them with a towel and hang them using a suction holder. Occasionally, id blow dry the heads using a blow dryer them to accelerate drying process.

Ive tried to look for attachments from blow dryer to head, none on the market. Possible to 3D print, but thats outside the scope.

I prefer the round head from oral b. It's gets in and around my teeth, esp molars. Periodontist also recommends round brush head, gentle/extra gentle for those with gum issues.

  • Heads up the battery on this model is pretty bad. I’ve had this one for 4 months, and with two normal uses daily it needs charging every single week.

    • Not to be rude, but is there a reason you don't just put it on charge after use ?

That's typically how I store mine
