  • CBF comparing specs but is this the same unit for $999 plus a $100 gift voucher?

    • 'Yes'

    • What do you mean you CBF comparing specs? It literally is exactly the same model….

      • CBF explaining to you.

    • Add to Cart -> The requested qty is not available. We could not add this product to your cart.

    • I use one of these as my main work computer - pretty good laptop replacement with long battery life that can tackle anything from Teams/Meet and other office productivity tasks (excel, powerpoint, word).

    • The fact it is has a MediaTek for that price is the crazy thing

      • Which MediaTek and how old?

        12 GB ram

        14.6" screen.

The offensive part is if it is only wifi and not mobile 5g or better.

The price of these went nuts what 3-4 years ago. Still don't get why they just don't put the mobile phone innards in it unless they are just cheaping out on the older phones specs production lines, especially for the original price RRP.

        • It's a Dimensity 9300+

It's good for a MediaTek, but it's around about SD8 gen 3 performance.

        • The offensive part is if it is only wifi and not mobile 5g or better.

What's the point, though? Who has one of these but doesn't have their phone nearby to auto hotspot to?

          And what's better than 5g?

          • @wombat81: Completely agree the whole "my watch or tablet doesn't support cellular" is really irrelevant. Just hotspot to it like you said.

            • @Sean8802: Yeah nah, better to not have to fiddle around with my phone plus I don't have to unnecessarily use my phone's battery

              • @Some Random Guy: Yeah I hate having to hotspot off the phone too - its a battery hog. Have a 5g portable modem connected to the car or power bank to get around this

              • @Some Random Guy: You don't have to touch your phone. Auto hotspot.

If hotspotting is burning your phone battery, I'm not sure what sort of phone you have. My S24u has no noticeable change in battery life when hotspot is on and I use it for large chunks of the day.

Are you guys using 5 year old phones or something?

          • @wombat81: 6G perhaps?

            • @khrome: Yeah new phones have 6G like features in 3GPP Release 18 - They're all marketed right now as 5G Advanced

          • @wombat81: If I turn on wifi/Bluetooth, I get hacked where I live. Don't have the skills or the power to stop it, or prove who is doing it.

Battery life of your phone acting as the hotspot/power failures.

Many of us no longer use landlines/NBN.

Plus, if you primarily use it as a laptop or internet, the last thing you need is to be constantly using another device to use it. If your phone or network buggers up, and you have another network, it might work or put your Sim in it till it is corrected. Unless all are out or they run in the same infrastructure.
Technology has advanced sufficiently to at least use 4g, at these prices, more is reasonable.

            • @carrawa: That all sounds a bit strange, but there are 5g versions available for the few who really don't want to hotspot. But making every tablet 5g just because, doesn't make sense.

        • The S8 and s9 ultra had the exact same specs as the flagship phones.

The price went up because it had the largest screen in the market, they priced it as a laptop

      • The MediaTek chip performs really well. I'm not sure why people are shitting on it. Have you used one?

        • It's good, just not for gamestreaming which is arguably one of the best things to do on these.

          • @krisspy: Also way behind on emulation gaming unfortunately

            • @Sage222: I reckon, maybe, 1% if the market would be emulating or game streaming. So really not a big issue.

  • Battery life for these are good. i use these for digital signage when i do a table top trade event. Running VLC on repeat lasts roughly 10 hours at full brightness.

    • I seriously doubt it lol

From Google: The MediaTek MT6989 (commercially known as the Dimensity 9300 or 9300+) is a flagship-tier chipset primarily used in high-end smartphones and premium tablets.
Component Cost: For hardware manufacturers (OEMs), the chipset itself is estimated to cost between $130 and $145 USD

For reference the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite costs smartphone manufacturers between $240 to $280 USD per unit. Why would Mediatek be that cheap

  • I got the S9 ultra refurbished as new from GreenGadgets last year for $1015.55 and I love it.

    • what do you use it for

      • everything

      • Researching for shopping, reading on the go for TAFE, assignments on word, google maps, streaming shows on Disney+, I bought for productivity, and it's fast and smooth, although some word docs may not be compatible with the app causing some invisible words between desktop and tablet.

  • Average EOFY deals, glad I grabbed the S25 edge at 899 (deal looks to still be live).

    • Can I ask what made you pick that phone

  • Better buy lenovo with mediatek

  • Glad I waited a bit and didn't jump on this. Just got a Tab S11 Ultra from Samsung direct for $939, with a trade in. It was $2099, sale price $1549, plus trade in bonus, $160 for an old iPad Pro 12.9 2nd gen, and it popped up with an extra 10% off code with "FLASH6" - total $939 after trade in, for the latest model.

    • Coming here to rub it in eh 😂

      • Haha! I posted this here before I posted the S11 deal, just to make sure it didn't get cancelled first 😂
