Sorry to hear.Should buy this then
Your thinking need some work then.
Probably need better friends
Yes. It's called XBOX now.
I have both PS5 and xbox and from a hardware point of view the xbox is better to look at and better designed, the controller is good although the sony haptics are a nice feature. The xbox os is better, at least for me. I bought the ps5 for the excusives and reckon i had my fill at 8 games and now back to forza horizon on the xbox.
Series X|S quick resume is good, but Micro$oft insists on restricting CFastExpress SSD to less than a handful of SSDs is very annoying. Choosing USB 3.0 instead of USB 3.2 gen 2 is also strange (the AMD APU clearly is capable of supporting USB 3.2 gen 2).
Yeah agree and probably my biggest gripe with this gen, certainly a stupid archaic move. I just managed between hdd and internal and no matter what refused to pay for 1TB at $300, although nowdays that almost seems reasonable.
@Spendmore: Game trade in value, same title, EB often only offers 50% for XBox version compared to PS version. Microsoft targeting GamePass PC nowadays. PC gamers have a cheaper path to day 1 games compared to console players (GamePass Ultimate).
@Spendmore: No, it's worse now. Buying physical games, play them, then trade them in, the final trade in value is often half of PS version. GamePass Ultimate is expensive now with no cheap option. When the same title is the same price (physical disc version) for PS and XB, assuming you have both consoles, get the PS5 version (retains trade in value better).
@netsurfer: I never trade in i use FB when i can be bothered selling, i noticed FB are usually cheaper for Xbox games too. Just skip EB games . I suppose I meant its cheaper initially and yes the returns are less but overall outlay is similar in the end especially if you wait a few months after release.
@Spendmore: Can't get XB games at 50% price of PS games. The trade in price gap is getting worse. When I traded in games to get my launch day Series X and PS5, Red Dead Redemption 2 XBox had inferior value than the PS version (and back then, I paid the same price).
Since I essentially paid $100 for Series X and $50 for PS5 (after trading in XBox One X, PS4 Pro, extra controllers and some games), I will keep both and trade both in for Project Helix and PS6.
No more cheap GamePass Ultimate is a big problem. My cheap subscription runs out in about 6 weeks. No discount on Forza Horizon 6 for GamePass Ultimate subscribers is also annoying. There was a substantial discount for Forza Horizon 5 when it launched.
@Spendmore: Not always. Bought games dirt cheap before, then with Level 4 bonus + birthday bonus, I made profit before. Even for my most recent trade in, I basically paid less than $5 per game for 3 games to play them.
For PS5 to PS5 Pro trade in, I needed 4 games, I just went and bought 2x $1 and 2x $2 games (couldn't find 4 $1 games in time).
@Spendmore: No, those were for games I wanted to play, but once I finished them, I know I wouldn't play them again. However, should a fire sale happen on those games in the future, I might buy them again (digital or physical).
Quick Resume messes up achievements, so I found it annoying. If you don't care about achievements, then it's a good system.
Microsoft is trying to "merge" the Xbox with PCs. You will soon be able to log in and play your Steam games on Xbox.
With keyboard and mouse I hope
if you have amex offer 2tb for only 649.
What is the difference between the 2tb vs 1tb Apart from increase in memory? We can always uninstall and reinstall games on the 1tb console and it can store around ten games at a time… is that correct?
No difference except 2Tb and aesthetic.
I just checked the price and it’s $749 after the $400 back from Amex. Still decent compared to this deal, but not quite as good as it has been.
I would’ve jumped on this, but it would’ve been an expensive mini trampoline…
I’ll see myself out.
1049-400 = 649
Yep, maths checks out. When I visit the site it has the base price as $1149.
1049 - 400 = 649. Pretty good for 2 TB.
When I visit the link it says it’s $1149… hmmmm.
@broski: Nice one! Hopefully it brings you much joy.
I’ll do some more investigating and see what the heck is going on with the pricing I’m seeing.
Why do I open this website?
Fantastic if you like backwards compatibility.
I think low sale numbers (limited preowned sales in the future), the disc drive, backwards compatibility and offical homebrew will make the Series X very expensive in the coming years.
Especially the way tech prices are going the next round of consoles will be outrageously expensive.
People say expensive when a console drops for $800, but will happily drop 1.5-2k for a phone and replace it every couple years. Not to mention them being as powerful as a PC twice their price. This for a console that you have for many many years is a bargain for me
Looks like they'll also have various configurations of the PS5 on sale too - pricing to be revealed 09/06 according to the catalogue on their website. Whether they'll be any cheaper than before Sony jacked the prices significantly earlier this year is to be seen…
Go for the 2TB one of you have amex. With $400 cash back it will cost $649
https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/d/Xbox-Series-X-2TB-Galaxy-B…
Good advice, limited edition too.
That is a decent deal for sure. All time low.
Alternatively just get the 1TB $849 + $175 in Microsoft/Xbox gift cards for $1024 - $400 cashback = $624
OR Digital 1TB $749 + $260 gift cards (over 2 transactions) for $1009 - $400 cashback = $609
The gift cards can be used on games/game pass
I got one of these along with a game pass subscription. Honestly for families with kids its a bit of a bargain. Hundreds of games you can download and play including lots of AAA titles. If you dont like a game just delete it!
I get that people like to own cartridges, but with games costing 100 bucks each these days, the 24 dollar monthly subscription is an absolute bargain.
Yep its the netflix of gaming.
Can't compete with PC. Free games each week that aren't reliant on an ongoing subscription, no online fee, cheaper games, cheaper peripherals. I have a Series X and was a Gamepass subscriber for 3+ years (which was about $120 total) but the current prices I can't really justify.
Also, this is 5.5 years old machine for what… $30 cheaper than launch price? and a new generation will launch likely end of 2027.
This isn't to say you can't get good value out of this, just that it's worth considering all the factors and options.
Xbox announced they are making online free to play so no need to subscribe, just like PC.
No, that's based on an unconfirmed industry report. Also, there is another part of that speculation, it is for Project Helix (the next XBox console). The reason behind that is many people think the next console will support Steam. If so, how can Micro$oft then enforces charging for online play?
@netsurfer: yeah free multiplayer sounds like nonsense
if you get billions a month, for free… why would you give that up?
Xbox need money… its basically the Forza console, that's it
@tonyjzx: Xbox dont need money have you seen the gamepass figures, not to mention their parent company could buy nintendo and sony at the same time.
Fitgirl repacks > everything
Risky google search of the day. Worth it though!
PC for most people is a faf. Me being 40 odd i really cant be arsed dealing with loading up a computer and dealing with the various issues that comes with windows. And my kids who range from 5 to 13 have zero issues with playing the xbox, but if i were to ask them setup a PC i know they would get frustrated with it.
I think thats one of issues we see online, most people argue PC is better and it certainly is in many cases, but for most families with large age ranges there is a reason why nintendo and xbox are the clear winners.
There's always someone who has to try and undermine Xbox and Game Pass for what they are. Notice how he said 'families'. No family with several kids wants to piss around with a PC.
I have several kids…
I have an Xbox…
I also have a PC, a Switch, and a bunch of other consoles over the years.
I'm not trying to undermine anything, just giving some info for people who might not necessarily be up to date with what the competition has to offer.
I'm not even sure what "pissing around" there is with a PC these days. Mostly things just work in a very straightforward way. Give the kids some credit, they can do some basic troubleshooting if needed and most people ultimately wind up with a PC for school work etc.
Again, not saying that's the right avenue for everyone but if you are really looking for bang for your buck I just think that's where your dollar goes furthest (see: actual free games all the time).
Got kids, they have their own PCs and Steam accounts, and they know how to fix them.
It's literally not rocket science. 5 parts to a PC, it's spicy LEGO.
You don't even have to download, just cloud game if you have quick Internet
This is an underated feature of GP. Previously to try a game you would download then try, now its instant and like you said with a decent internet connection its instant and very playable.
I have FTTP and console connected via ethernet. I have no perceivable lag.
Xbox Cloud Gaming has come a long way.
No, a lot of people buy physical games, play them, then trade them in. With GamePass, you don't own the games. $26*12 = $312. You are basically paying for 3 AAA titles each year, and at that price, you only get to play them for a year unless you keep paying.
We OZBers had that amazing GamePass Ultimate Turkey deal for basically 3 years (essentially less than $2/month for 3 years). Less than $24 GamePass Ultimate for a year (which we can easily get that back through the MS rewards) vs $312 a year now. That's 1300% / 13X increase.
The only sensible way is to subscribe to GamePass Ultimate for a month or two each year and play games like crazy during those months.
With GamePass, you don't own the games. $26*12 = $312. You are basically paying for 3 AAA titles each year, and at that price, you only get to play them for a year unless you keep paying.
Yes, but you get to play as many AAA games as you want for that year, compared to being stuck to the same 3 for that price. My steam library is full of games that I've only played once, I rarely go back and replay them, unless they're exceptional, and I don't think I'm alone in this.
I don't subscribe to the game pass, but I can see how some people would prefer that kind of model. You might prefer to "own" your games, but $312 a year, without having to jump through hoops, to play as many games as you want is a pretty good deal, the only better deal is piracy, and that's not really a deal. You might save a few dollars here and there by searching for deals and hacks, but it isn't worth the time and energy for a lot of people, particularly if you have kids and you just want something that will work without any more effort than putting your card details into the purchase window.
I've considered signing up in the past purely to play a game for a month because I won't spend $100 on some AAA slop that I'll play for a few weeks, but I couldn't really be bothered because the game looked too mediocre / ended up pirating because that's an option for me on PC.
I don't get why people insist that if you buy physical games, you cannot sell them once you finished playing them. You buy a console with a disc drive, but you are not allowed to utilise it in a smart manner? Also, a true OZBer would have got those great GamePass Ultimate deals in the past years. Seriously, with 3 years of GamePass Ultimate, you STILL have lots of AAA titles you have elected not to play? Then, what was the point to have GamePass Ultimate for 3 years in a row at $2/month? Old / ancient AAA titles, they can be purchased at a discount price. Buying pre-owned games is also an option.
Rest of this year, it is pretty much Forza Horizon 6 and GTA 6. Good luck playing GTA 6 on GamePass Ultimate on Day 1, there is NO WAY Rockstar put that game on GamePass Day 1. Games I really like, I buy them. I also have a backlog of games I bought cheap so even without GamePass Ultimate, I still have games to play. RDR, RDR2, I occasionally re-play them. I don't want to wait till they get put back into GamePass temporary.
The key point of GamePass Ultimate is Day 1 access, otherwise just get Game Pass Premium. People need to assess GamePass Ultimate properly. If the new price is so amazing, why did Microsoft recently lowered the price and remove Call of Duty Day 1 access? As an OZBer, I have no issue changing to GamePass PC to play Day 1 AAA game for a month.
Anyone on OzB who is subscribed to GPU should be all over the MS Rewards too.
I've earned $35 this month alone. Considering I stacked GPU at ~$16 per month, I'm profiting.
Based on your deals, are you a PC supremacist or something that makes you go pfft at an Xbox deal?
The Xbox X consoles have always been really nicely made pieces of kit but just couldn't justify buying another one after the One X. That whole generation barely landing anything compelling (what few things were you could play elsewhere) and then repeating that trick with the series generation.
That being said what does 700 get you in terms of PC hardware these days? and there is something to be said for the big screen lean back experience of console gaming (PS5 gets it done for me there).Hoping Xbox manage to turn things around and start landing their tent pole titles that have fairly consistently fallen flat for 2 generations. I always thought the PlayStation vs Xbox competition was great for gamers, would love to see them back and competing.
No reason to buy a Xbox if you already have a decent PC. Use steam link for living room TV.
You dont need to maintain a console, you can walk away for months then turn it on and game.
No driver updates etc.
Not to mention games released by the console company are usually optimised for that hardware
For the convenience vs price there is no comparison.
Some people are for whatever reason just incapable of understanding this.
Two completely separate products.
Yeah but when you turn it on every game needs a huge update.
Yeah true but In my experience PC games often need the same updates only smaller but leaving a pc for months then leads to driver updates.
I know i dont need to update the driver to just jump in and play but as a pc gamer my mindset is I must have latest (confirmed ok) drivers for the best experience.
I guess the console update just incorporates all that in one.
@Spendmore: It's 2026.
When you use the AMD installer to install your Motherboard and Radeon drivers, the process includes an auto updater tool. Not sure what other drivers you care about updating, but you can run a gaming PC with zero maintenance today.
Even Windows Update is invisible enough to install it's updates during the shutdown process once a month now.
@Nom: It might be 2026 but you arent a pc gamer if you havent had a GPU update break your game, auto updates are for noobs.
@Spendmore: Id say there is usually a Nvidia driver update which is actually required for new titles sometimes, sometimes a game suggests it but I ignore it lol. But a console also has updates. Probably pretty similar time loss.
I actually don't recall in distant memory having a gpu update break a game I'm playing on pc, or one even requiring a new driver install.
But, I understand the console simplicity and price saving benefits for those who want them.
What is considered a decent PC?
Guess he meant any rig that's better than an Xbox?
That will set you back $2k
No reason to buy a Honda if you own a Lamborghini. Same logic.
Id say not waiting 12 months for a Rocksatar game is a good reason, yes i bought a xbox for RDR2. I was enjoying my honda while the Lamborghini's were still being made.
Try buying a PC in 2026 that can even be remotely close to the specs of this for sub 1k.
Por que no los dos?
Old el paso style
Didn’t they rebrand Xbox to XBOX?
On another note, it’s crazy that a 5+ year old console is still this expensive (see also, PS5 price hike). Crazy times we are living in with the chip and RAM shortages…
One possible reason for someone to buy this console now is to play GTA6.
While one could get GamePass Ultimate for a month or two, if you have a PC that can game, GamePass PC is better value for money.
I'm considering buying this for GTA 6 alone.
One reason I can think of is that if you want to get the physical disc version, there is a higher chance the PS5 version will sell out faster.
From an aesthetic standpoint, I don't understand why it was never all caps to begin with.
So now, when we say XBOX, we need to yell.
Agreed. I paid somewhere around $850 for one of these several years ago.
Makes me so happy to see that it is still considered current gen and desirable!
Generally console makers take a hit when they first release them and make money off the games, the hardware costs would have gone down by now so they would be making profit i'd assume.
Not only that, launch price was $849 in 2020, in todays money that would be around $1050.
IMO, it's pretty good bang for the buck for a way to play games, $720 doesn't get you much PC these days, the RAM in mine is almost worth as much as an xbox :\ and I doubt anything that is going to get close to the performance or build quality.
the hardware costs would have gone down by now so they would be making profit i'd assume.
That used to be the case but not this gen. Rising costs are why regular ps5 now has a rrp of $1000 (was $799 at launch, not 849). Thats more than just inflation.
That aside, i agree, you don't get really anything PC wise for $720. A GPU alone with similar capability to a series x is going to be most of that price.
Not even, PS5 was $749 on release! Felt like a lot at the time, but boy has the willingness to pay shifted in gaming hardware…
I feel like a dream stan for buying consoles early before price hike
What does that mean?
it means if you bought consoles or ram or nvme or gfx cards like a year ago, you'd be laughing at this nonsense
No GPU been mad for years sadly.
What does what mean
