Has Anyone Had a Positive Experience with Sunboost?

I have been considering a solar system and battery for years but in the past I have been overwhelmed by all the information and quotes, let alone the aggressive sales tactics and confusing T&Cs.
I have read all of the warnings about Sunboost but on the other hand, they have many, many positive reviews.
Sunboost has given me a quote which seems too good to be true and we all know what that means.
Who knows how many of Sunboost's positive reviews are genuine but I trust feedback from the Oz Bargain community.

  • I can’t offer feedback on Sunboost, so I’ll just give some general comments.
I think in the past it was definitely important to find quality suppliers/installers when the investment was many thousands of dollars with a payback needing to keep running without faults for a decade or more.
I personally think this has switched a bit now, when the cost of solar has plummeted and the cost of batteries is also strongly supported by the government.
We’ve also seen advances in technology mean that $15k solar systems from 15 years ago are being replaced because the latest deals offer big systems for less money.

I think this means there is scope to shop around the cheaper installers - the reality is most PV panels will be acceptable for decades, and battery prices are much lower too.

The only hesitation I have is with an approach that counts on adding more panels or batteries later - the regulatory changes over time mean that installers are reluctant to build on other installer’s work - so get what you want up front.

I don’t know if Sunboost meets these needs, but if you feel they are great value I’d probably get a few more quotes. I think there are plenty of installers who are offering very cheap systems, so if you are comparing quotes from a year ago you probably need to refresh these.

That said, if you want a hassle free system that you don’t need to think about again, a highly rated local installer is a good option, even if they are a little dearer. There is a big advantage in fixing things that could go wrong if the people who did the work are people in your local community.

I’d also say if your daily power usage is below average, say 10-15kWh, you probably need to look at other things too - are you using gas for hot water, heating etc. The economics of an electric only house are pretty compelling, so consider getting a bigger system than you might need right now with a plan of adding heat pump hot water and reverse cycle AC when your current systems need replacing.

    • Thank you for your very detailed and helpful reply. I hadn't thought about replacing the existing gas appliances but I'll certainly factor it in when choosing the size of the solar system.
