That 0.9 Darth Vader one looks awesome. Don't really need another bottle though and it's not exactly cheap.

    • I have the Freesip version of the Darth Vader, does look great.

  • +2

Haha good for the bring your own bottle to fill slurpee @ 7 11

  • Didn't need another insulated 1lt but the reviews are solid and I hydrate enough. Thanks Op!

  • Got one, thanks. But would anyone actually pay full price for this?

    • Those star wars ones though…

      • Oh i saw someone on the road with a star wars vinyl wrap or paint job

        Would you do that?

        • @Aerith-Waifu

        • Theres guys driving around with ahegao wraps…

Maybe something more subtle like Fujiwara Tofu Shop but not that kind of wrap. At least not for a daily.

          • @ATangk: I see.

Omg the Fujiwara tofu shop would look so nice on an ae86 like as a copy lol

People pay full price (and above!) for the limited edition colours ("Color Drops") and exclusives (eg. Dick's Sporting Goods in USA have done golf themed bottles).

I wouldnt pay full price, no. I've bought all mine on sale from Amazon - but to be fair, you are at the mercy of the colours sold on Amazon (and which random colours get heavily discounted).

People who care about water bottle fashion/trends (not me!) are probably paying more to get the specific colours they want.

Lol, someone negged me for a factual answer about the market for Owala water bottles? (All verifiable facts, if you care to delve into the world of Owala fanatics!)

  • Is Amazon having Claytons prime days this year it seems many things greatly reduced.

  • Thanks got one. I have two Camelbak's that are just painful to clean, this looks much easier.

    • Yeah, I can fit my whole hand in it.

        (˵ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°˵)

Can confirm you can clean up the whole thing in less than a minute, and everything is easy to disassemble/reassemble.

I never thought I'd come to ozbargain to say this, but this overly expensive bottle is worth the money, whatever design.

I got the Freesip Sway a couple of months ago and the lid design is just amazing

    • Thanks

  • What are these like as an insulated bottle for cold or hot drinks? A lot of other brands I've owned in the last have not been well insulated in the lid and ice cold water would turn to chill water after about an hour.

    • +3

They are middle of the road for thermal performance. They are not going to be as good as a Zojirushi…but they are not completely hopeless. See temperature tests here:
      https://www.bottlepro.net/hydration-blog/the-ultimate-water-…

Note: the FreeSip Sway has a larger lid/opening (uninsulated) than the FreeSip, so temperature retention is a bit better on the older FreeSip models.

Fwiw, I fill mine with large ice blocks, and I usually have a bit of ice left the next day.

      • +2

I will second @caprimulgus' comment that thermal performance is not fantastic. It is still pretty good, but if you tilt your bottle and the liquid touches the lid, it gets to room temperature within a few hours and condensation accummulates at the top. Otherwise, it holds up nicely for a day.

      • +1

I've been using my Zojirushi for 8 years now, and the "issues" still remains. Its too hot to drink if you put hot liquids in it. So its 'too good'

And well, the flow rate is quite slow. But its banged up nicely and still holds temp and doesn't leak.

  • Have been keen to try these v the good ol' Yeti.

  • +1

Honestly I'm not into water bottle trends but these are honestly super great, bought one for my partner and daughter and they use them daily

  • Are these any good for hot water.?

    • +1

Stainless Steel FreeSip: Not for use with hot, carbonated, or perishable liquids.

Polypropylene: Not for use with hot, carbonated, or perishable liquids.

    • +1

FreeSip Twist would be the better model for hot and cold liquids. Owala specifically warns against hot (and carbonated) drinks in the FreeSip / FreeSip Sway, because the pressure can build up inside, and release violently - especially with the flip lid, which is prone to splash even with cold water. So yeah, the risk of splashing yourself with hot water is why they say not to use hot liquids. (I think the pressure build up can also ruin the seals.)

If you want to use it for hot liquids (against their warning), you probably CAN use hot liquids if you twist the lid slightly to break the seal before opening the lid (and I would hold the lid when pressing the button, to control it to open slowly!). The key difference on the FreeSip Twist is the twist on lid - so if you do the same thing on the FreeSip / Sway, you should be ok.

The other thing to keep in mind is that the design of the FreeSip spout means there is a large opening to act as an air intake when drinking through the straw - so the flow will be way quicker / easier than on most straw bottles (which usually have a tiny valve for air). So be careful taking big sips from the straw! (Or better yet, don't use the straw at all if you are using hot liquids.)

So yeah…they probanly CAN be used for hot liquids. But do so at your own risk (Owala specifically warns you not to!). FreeSip Twist would be a better option for hot liquids.

      • Thank you.Any recommendations for hot.? Is YETI good.?

        • I use a Zojirushi flask for hot liquids.

Yeti stuff also performs well from memory.

    Back to $69.74

    • I can still see it for $44.98.

      • I'm getting an error when adding to cart or clicking buy now

  • +1

LOL at the RRP of $90. Who in their right mind would pay $90 for a water bottle.

    • This is the older model but still good.

      • +4

24oz FreeSip is actually my favourite (even though it is the older / and in some ways "inferior" model). Specifically the 24oz size one, I mean.

-smaller size and flat sides makes it by far the easiest to hold and drink from (especially for small hands)
-I find the more traditional cylindrical shape is more conveniently shaped for carrying in bags/satchels (and I personally think they just look better aesthetically)
-lid is easier to thread on (Sway lid is easier to mis-thread)
-while the new locking mechanism on the Sway is arguably an upgrade, I prefer the simplicity of the lock on the FreeSip - which I can more easily tell at a glance or by feel whether it's locked (I'm always forgetting whether the Sway is locked or not!). I'm not really worried that the FreeSip isn't locked while carrying by the handle - it's not likely to open by itself anyway!
        -marginally better temperature retention.

The trade off being the Sways are larger capacity, easier to clean because you can fit your hand in, and have a way way better handle for carrying. And the Sways are designed to fit in cup holders, while the 32oz/40oz FreeSip won't fit in most (the 24oz will, though).

24oz FreeSip (daily carry) and 40oz Sway (higher capacity for home/road trips) is my combo of choice! :)

        • Super handy review - ta! Will reconsider this if it drops in price again!

  • Is the spout rubber or hard plastic?

  • Deals over?

    • Yep, sold out at that price and now back to $69.74.

Update - It's available again. bought one at $44.98.

    • +1

As someone who works in IT, please don't get these bottles. Have had two different workers think these bottles are locked in their bag only to have them spill all over their laptops.

    • +9

      User error

      • Agreed, issue with the Wetware.

  • Not a comment on the bottle. Ordered and waiting!

Has anyone else had where Amazon says to order in X time for it to arrive same day, for it to be scheduled to arrive days later? Bottle said it would arrive by 10pm, not it's saying Wednesday. Seems to have happened at least 10 times with Amazon.
