Original Coupon Deal

Good price for a c210/c245 soldering iron that you can operate off usb-c. Cheaper than the Pinecil (25.99 + 11.99 usd shipping) delivered and uses the arguably superior JBC cartridge design.

Stack with 35% TCB UK cashback and Team OzBargain to get it even cheaper.

I believe the iron now also comes with a small carry case and a silicone holder. You will want the T90 iron if you want a more premium product (colour display + saved profiles).

  • This vs the t90 or the fnirsi h2?

    • I'm more of a Hakko / Weller kind of guy. I've had two of these kinds of irons, T90 and Pinecil previously, mainly because i wanted to use them outdoors, but both failed after couple of years of use. One stopped heating up, the other the soldering pads came off on the PCB.

I now just use a gas one when I'm outdoors, been working great for the past 6-7 years. Bigger and chunkier but way more reliable.

      • T90 came out last year though?

        • My bad, may have been a T100, I don't remember tbh. its one of those T series. The Pinecil felt better in hand though if you want one of these irons. I'm not saying these are bad irons, it's just my experience. I've tried twice, both failed, and will never go back to them again.

          • @bogak: Ah possibly you are referring to the TS series by Miniware, they have been around a lot longer and use a similar tip to the Pinecil

      • What was the price difference between them?

    • Big fan of C210 tips with fnirsi HS-02B.
Everything is so easy with the smaller tips and ultra short tip distance.

I've been using the TS100 for the longest time (since 2017 maybe) and then bought the FNIRSI along with the Pinecil V2 with short tip set (they are shorter, lower resistance = higher power).

I prefer the fnrsi whenever possible. Going back to the others if I want to solder a big heatsink or sth.

I usually end up using bevel tips of ranging from micro sized C210 ones to massive ones on the bigger handles.

  • Does IronOS work on this?

    • It does not unfortunately, runs a proprietary OS. manufacturer has an update tool you can download for updates

      • Is it a clone of the TS80?, it has the shorter tip than TS100? Shame IronOS doesn't work.

I have a TS100, Pinecil, T12 station and a few other Irons like the older Hakko clones. Apparently I always have room for more lol. To be fair I have used my Iron for fix problems on other irons a few times.

        • I believe it's an original design, different body, jbc style tips and higher power than the TS80. The Alientek brand also makes a large variety of unique electronics tools.

  • Never knew these existed. Much more conveninet than my traditional Jayco one

  • Always wondered how well these things handle a solid ground plane. Even a good AC powered iron can struggle with ground planes soaking away heat, but I often see people saying these are a good alternative to an AC powered unit.

  • I love my T80, I've not had any issues or complaints about this thing from a hobbyist, diy, tinkerer perspective. So not using it everyday for commercial stuff obviously, but it's really good.

  • I was originally aiming for a GEEBOON T22 after hearing it’s the go‑to for beginners at ~$160 for a full set delivered, but this T80P deal is ridiculously cheap.

Is the jump in performance actually big, or is this one of those cases where the bargain option is 90% as good for a fraction of the price?

    • It ends up being a question of soldering station vs just the iron, both products are among the best of their respective fields.

The station can take more tip types, is esd safe (iron can be esd safe if powered through power bank), doesn't come with potential extra usb-c charger costs, has a proper stand, takes more space but is more powerful.

For hobby work the Alientek is a pretty decent starter, especially with the lower entry point if you already have a usb-c charger. Maybe 80% as good depending on what you are doing specifically
