  • Outstanding @Clear!

Literally what I'm shopping for. Best I found 12 hours ago was roughly AU$234

  • Dammit, do I swap my 5700X for this or wait for the 5800X3D to be re-released?

Why do I have to deal with so many bargains thanks to @Clear???

    • I was in the same predicament. Bought the 5500X3D to replace my 5700X because of better gaming performance aaaaaand it's sitting there still be installed haha

      • I got the 5700X3D for $250 when you posted in 2024.

        Still going strong!

    • I was waiting for the 5800x3d… However, at the announced US$350 price point, I figured that would hurt too much and yes, while it would perform better, I didn't think the price/performance was there.

  • Awesome stuff. Exactly what I was looking for. I was just testing the numbers out and got the same thing.

  • How's quality compare to those buying from local retailer? Are they the same?

    • I just got the exact CPU a few days ago, it was flawless, no pins were bent at all.

    • Yes it will be the same as buying from a local retailer, the only issue is that there is no warranty after the first month.
So if you are really unlucky it can just fail after that month and you'll have no recourse

  • Can I use this on any desktop? I have an old gaming pc that I wanted to upgrade the cpu for

    • No you'd need a motherboard that's compatible with the AMD AM4 socket. What CPU do you currently have?

      • To be fair, AM4 is old at this point lol.

        • It's still one of the best sockets to use all the DDR4 RAM you have lying around.

I'd take a machine with the 64GB of DDR4-3200 I have sitting here over a newer socket with 16GB of DDR5 (because I can't justify paying for more than that).

          • @axyh: The original question is if this CPU will fit in his old PC. His old PC Can possibly have AM4 as it's a 10 year old platform.

Guys, your 1600F gtx 1080 second hand build is a decade year old.

            • @Wonderfool: The "lol" at the end seemed mocking. My point is that AM4 is still a very valid choice for a budget upgrade.

If you have a 6th-10th gen Intel processor, and a good chunk of DDR4 RAM in that machine, grabbing an AM4 DDR4 board and throwing in a 5000 series Ryzen will likely put you in good shape to ride out RAMmageddon. Once we get out the other side in a couple of years, a proper upgrade could follow.

              • @axyh: Jesus Christ people, I'm not talking crap about your favourite platform. Calling it old isn't an insult, I'm only pointing out that it's possibly that the person in the original post may have an AM4 board in their "old PC." This has nothing to do about your personal buying choice or your preference.

It's just CPUs and motherboards, people. No need to get so riled up.

                • @Wonderfool: The sole reason it was misinterpreted is the “lol” at the end.

  • I'm struggling to get the displayed price (or near it)…. currently the CPU is AU$225.08, minus the EOFY15 discount ($23) then add another $25 of tax on top. The "Further US$16 off with PayPal" doesn't seem to apply here as it needs a minimum US$160, and this is less than that…

I don't have a decent card to use, but I can't get the total cost less than $227…. surely the conversion fees with my paypal account doesn't add up to around $20?

    • Try another listing that pushes it over the min spend: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005011772309943.html?spm=a2…

      • Unfortunately that listing doesn't work either - that price is $230-ish (fluctuates by the looks of it). From the paypal information, you get $24 off when you spend $239+.

I can't find a 5500x3d at the right price to combine the EOFY15 discount + paypal discount to get close to that $200-ish figure.

        • If your currency is set to AUD that's probably your issue.

          • @Clear: Yep… I "Clear"ly can't read instructions. That was my issue… Now I can get the Paypal discount added on top, which brought it down to $217. That's close enough now!

Wish there was a 5700X at the old AUD$120 price point from earlier OzB finds though, that CPU seems to have missed out this time around :)

    • Probably just pay in USD and convert to AUD with your bank and not Paypal.
I think you're saying Paypal is doing the coversion when it's really Aliexpress in your case?

  • Good price!👍 I'm content with my 5700X for this current gen.

I'd rather upgrade my GPU 😅

  • I'm currently using a 5600x paired with a rtx3090. Would this be a worthwhile upgrade for gaming at 1440p?

    • It'll help with 1% lows and such depending on the game. If you can resell the 5600x to cover at least half of the cost, probably worthwhile if you don't plan to change platform for a while!

  • Thanks op, bought one to replace my 3700x which will be thrown into my NAS build. Was going to stick a new 5600x in there but this deal lined up perfectly.
Have been noticing a bit of stuttering in gaming on 1440p paired with my 3080, hopefully solves that

  • So tempting to drop this in for my partners pc.. She's got my old 5600x before I went am5 (pre ram crisis thankfully). But she doesn't need it at all.. Stardew Valley is the most intense game she plays on the pc generally.. I undervolt her 3060 ti just to save some heat and power lol.

    • If that's all she plays why upgrade

But also the devil on my shoulder says…upgrade and gimme the 5600x so I can ditch my 3600 :-P

      • Yeah I shouldn't spend the money.

        But I could!

        I won't.

        .. Will I? Ha

        • I'm in the same boat….do I upgrade the 3600…do I upgrade it to this or just find a used 5600x.

Am I pouring money into old tech and should just wait out the ram nonsense

          My brain hurts

          • @Fergy1987: Funnily, after upgrading to a 7800x3d, I've used my pc significantly less LOL. Console gaming is too damn comfy. I basically only use my pc for some admin and when I game with mates online. XD

  • both my Kids PC's have 5700X CPU's (RTX3060 + RTX4060 GPU's)

I don't think this would be much of an upgrade?

    • If they're at 1080p, in straight games they actually still would. But if they're utilising the cores for anything else it'll be slower for multi threaded workloads

      • at 1440p for most games,

        • Personally, given you'd have to change and buy two. Nah. Not worth. New gpu would matter more to those machines than new CPU at 1440p. But they're already solid machines for kids/teens. I'd keep em as is.

  • Good upgrade from intel 8700k to this to help out a 9070xt playing at 1440? I already have an am4 motherboard on another PC build but the CPU in that is the 5600g.

    • Upgrade, yes, good? Questionable. No doubt it's a better CPU than the 8700k.. The fact you have am4 already may make it worth it to migrate your gpu over with the x3d but it sounds like a bit of a faff.

I'd personally just consider a 7500f/7700 am5 6/8 core or something instead and try get lucky on a RAM deal for a new build imo.

  • Currently running 5600, mainly for gaming and also 3D modeling. Which one would be an upgrade for my usage?

    • 3d modelling may even take a small hit. X3d tend to have lower clock speeds than non x3d variants.

Gaming would be an upgrade, sure, resolution depending.

Imo, most people on 5000 class CPUs benefit the least from X3d upgrades in terms of performance/value equation. People Upgrading from 2000 and 3000 series make more sense.

For you, I'd be looking at 8 core x3d parts if anything.. 5800x3d is returning to retail but I'm unsure the price

      • That’s good to know. Thank you! I might look into 5800x3d

  • Where to get ram for this, rip.

  • Hoping for a 5950x deal soon. Would be the only realistic upgrade for me without rebuilding.

  • AMD Ryzen 7 7700 ~$214
    8 core with igpu.
    Perfect for vmware homelab.

    • Whoa if anything that sounds overkill no? For 300 on sale you can get a 10th gen intel optiplex including ram board power etc. Unless you're running a lotttt of workloads

      • I am running a 7th gen OptiPlex and an 8th gen elite desk. Both micro.
Currently, I am developing micro services, and it requires communication between multiple pc's for testing. The project is in development and both pc's ran quite hot.

        • Ohhhh yeah fair enough. Make sense! Sounds like fun.

My home server is much more basic on proxmox. Bunch of docker. Free lxcs. That's about it. Heh.

          • @ReaperX22: Cool Setup. Where do you guys usually get storage/hdd from? I am planning to build a nas.

  • I've tried to order the 5500X3D twice and AliExpress immediately gets cancelled with this reason.

I'm using the EOFY15 coupon code and tried it with AUD and USD same problem.

Any ideas how I can order this?

    • Pm me — I bought 2x in the last deal, happy to save the AliExpress helpdesk merry-go-round

  • Will this be a massive frame rate upgrade from my Ryzen 5 2600?

serious question because i haven't been following much, and recently on my triple screen sim racing (3 x 1440p) i start to see stuttering in games i play.

    • It will be a quite good upgrade, especially for simulation games such as assetto corsa, due to the 3D-V cache and newer architecture. I've noticed a good improvement in FPS and 1% lows (Coming from a 3500x), so this should fix your stuttering in newer titles. Just remember to update your BIOS to the newest version before installing the 5500x3d.

      • Yeap this is reassuring. I mainly play AC and it's been 35-40fps on my current system.
Playable but certainly not enjoyable when there's over 15 cars.
        Cheers thanks for the advice.

        • No worries.
If you're running the stock cooler, I'd recommend also buying a new cooler as the TDP of the chip is 105W.
I'm currently running the amd wraith stealth cooler, and it does thermal throttle under 100% load (even with an undervolt) , so make sure you buy one.

          • @QF99: Oh i've been running a CM AIO since 2021.

            • @jianh: Ah all goods then, enjoy the upgrade.

  • Somewhat related, was able to pick up 5950X with the EOFY35 code and choosing Paypal pay in 4 to bring it down to AU $360 delivered. Ended up with $30 cashback from topcashback - 22 weeks payable :( (so total cost will end up $330) and also should get ~$40 credit with aliexpress… This is via the SZCPU store…

  • Thanks for sharing! Does anyone have any mobo recommendations to pair up with this, saw this deal on Aliexpress - only requirement is 2 x M.2 slots.

  • Great little CPU. Took a 2200G CPU on AM4 to a 5500x3d and slapped a 9060xt in there.
