A new all time low price on this previously popular router. The most notable upgrades compared to the Flint 2 is that this offers the 6GHz band, Wifi 7 and all 5 network ports are 2.5GbE. However it's worth noting that the Flint 2 offers better range than Flint 3. The Flint 2 can be purchased from this deal. Stack with 17% cashback from TopCashback and potentially Team OzBargain cashback.

Featuring BE9300 WiFi 7 (2.4GHz: 688Mbps, 5GHz: 2882Mbps. 6GHz: 5765Mbps), 1x 2.5GbE WAN, 1x 2.5GbE WAN/LAN, 3x 2.5GbE LAN, USB 3.0 port, 4 foldable antennas and an AU plug.

I picked one up in a previous deal and really can't fault it. More than enough range and the additional 2.5G LAN ports are perfect for all the computers and NAS drives that use the same.

  • is this better than the flint 2 in a double story house?

    • This is worse than a Flint 2, in any house. Unless you want Wifi 7

      • How is this worse? Just curious, would like to understand.

        • Range and speed on Wifi 6. I have both. Bought the Flint 3, the day it was released, went back to Flint 2.

          • @hawamahal: can you quantify by how much please?

          • @hawamahal: Hmm, crap.. I just ordered one of the flint 3. Now I have regrets…

So counter intuitive. How could they possibly release a newer product that performance worse…?

            • @momptdeals: I don't think you will feel it much except in certain edge cases - the flint2 is also (on average) a little more expensive

            • @momptdeals: “Performance” as measured by range may be worse but performance based on throughput and features is.. better.

Which one is more important to you?

If range isn’t an issue why would you give up speed for it?

          • @hawamahal: It should be around the same WiFi signal range. You can probably switch the Flint 3 into WiFi 6e mode in the WiFi settings to make it WiFi 6e only. But why you would want to do that on a WiFi 7 router it defeats the purpose of buying one.

        • Flint 2 has 4x4 MIMO, 2x2 MIMO on Flint 3, Openwrt support on Flint 2 is more mature.

          • @wry-oopy: Well that's crap why GL.iNet would gimp the WiFi 6 performance on the next gen model compared to the last. The Flint 3 would only be better if you run WiFi 7 devices only. There's not many of those yet. Current flagship smartphones for example support WiFi 7.

          • @wry-oopy: Interesting.

I live in a double brick apartment building that is very long (nbn point at one end of the apartment and all rooms are down long hallways) so penetration through 3 walls is a bit hard.

I had a Telstra Smart modem gen3 which did surprisingly well but it died last week, so I got a tp link be3600 wifi7 router from office works yesterday and speeds absolutely tank after just 1 wall, no chance of getting signal down the other end of the apartment with the TP link router.

            Hopefully this router does better.

            • @momptdeals: Get the Flint 2, if you are not so particlar about Wifi 7. I get much better range / speeds with Flint 2, comparing to ruters that are 3 times more expensive.

              • @hawamahal:

                ruters

                Canadian ?

              • @hawamahal: Also 6ghz which is important to people living in congested areas and/or needing to stream high bandwidth to devices such as the Quest 3.

          • @wry-oopy: Very few devices support 4x4 MIMO. But yes agree, I have the Flint 2 and the range is amazing.

    • Imo the range isn't so good on the flint 2 either way from personal experience. I expected much better from all the ozb rave.

Buy foxtel power line adaptors from eBay to extend wifi, it's cheap and works well

  • Nice, been waiting to upgrade from the Eero 6E due to all the lock downs and limitations but needed 6ghz for Quest 3 streaming.

    Finally jumped on this one.

    • but eero can mesh , this cannot

      • I don't need to mesh. If I need to extend the range in the future I can do so with cheap repeaters rather than expensive routers. I also really don't like having my router attached to my Amazon account where I need to get a 2FA code sent to my phone to log in to make basic changes, and forced to use an app to make any changes rather than just log into the router directly from any device on the network.

I can't fault the performance of the Eero, but it feels like the Eye of Sauron watching everything, extremely limited in functionality (can't even separate the wifi bands) and the forcing of an Amazon account seems kind of.. evil. Had I known this about Eero before purchase I would have never bought it.

        • FWIW I haven't/don't have to link mine to my Amazon account.

          • @vaskothefrog: Eero/Amazon account.

You need to put a mobile number in if you don't use an Amazon account, and Eero is owned by Amazon. Not only that, but you would be using Amazon services through the Eero account. It's all connected.

If Amazon services go down then you won't be able to use the router. If one day they decide your router shouldn't work anymore, it won't work anymore. Eero is the first router I've owned where it feels like I'm the product and that I don't actually own it.

            • @studentl0an: Not refuting any of your additional points, just that you don't need to link it to your Amazon account; 2FA not required to make changes either.

              • @vaskothefrog: 2FA is required.

                • @studentl0an: Yeah, except it's not. I've made plenty of changes and have never had to go through 2FA.

                  • @vaskothefrog: It really is, and a quick search will confirm it for all those who doubt it.

                    • @studentl0an: To the doubters reading, I just made another change between comments, still no 2FA required!

                      • @vaskothefrog: Because you are logged in with an active 2FA token already there. Try uninstalling the app and reinstalling and see what happens.

Also maybe just search it too?

            • @studentl0an:

If Amazon services go down then you won't be able to use the router.

              Wow…that's bad.

Thanks for explaining the pitfalls of the Eero, and sorry to hear your troubles.

        • There is another problem with eero that we can’t use the manual settings to separate 5G and 2.4 networks Because it uses it automatically and this problem come as a nightmare when you have a o connect old devices that don’t connect to 4g band. So I don’t like to eero at all.

          • @TahirAu: There's a feature where you can temporarily disable 6/5g bands when setting up otherwise incompatible devices. You're not wrong though, and that's absolutely valid criticism.

            • @vaskothefrog: Yes I’m aware of that but the problem if you switch off the both bands then the other people using the same band will be disconnected. Thai is not the only problem. The problem my printer wifi sometimes refuse to work until my mobile or laptop connected to 2.4 so it’s mean every time i have to switch off the other band and that is not the solution. But you are right for temporary solution it can work

  • bummer, can't be shipped to my address

    • ive tried numerous Australian addresses. It says cant ship to any

  • Hey @Clear , do you know if cashback at TCB eleibile if part is paid with Bonus ??

    • I don't think it's an issue

  • can't ship to my address. i am just gonna wait for EOFY deals on eero 6+ or pro 6 mesh set.

  • Do the aerials fold down neatly? Any good as a travel router?

Some hotels have 1Gbps on their phone ports but I don’t want to carry a chunky router or 15m cable to get it where I need it…

    • They fold down

  • ** for those that are getting the error message that it can't be shipped to your address **

instead of letting it auto complete your address. try entering it manually.

in the section where you put your street name - enter ONLY your street name - NO NUMBER. eg Smith Road

then put your house/unit number in the next box, where it asks for you house number.

it worked for me and i got the beryl AX delivered to me successfully

    good luck!

    • unfortunately didnt work for me. I even tried logging out and starting an incognito session. It still says it wont ship even though it doesnt know where to ship!!

  • Don't people say the Flint 3 is a downgrade from the Flint 2?

    • I've heard the same, because the 5GHz throughput on Flint 2 is higher than Flint 3.

However in my crowded apartment environment, the 6GHz band is much more stable vs. 5GHz.

Turning off MLO helps. Reduced range not so much an issue.

    • Yes. They seem to have skimped out a bit on the specs on the 3 which sucks. You will notice most if you're using the system to manage your VPN. The F3 seems to have lower throughputs across the board than the 2.

  • I'm tempted to use these as hardwired access points to extend my flint 2? would that be dumb?

    • Me too thinking to put this as AP mode

  • I got past the address issue but i'm getting "For security reasons your request can't currently be processed" when i try and enter the "EOFY15" Coupon code, i have the currency set to USD, any thoughts?

  • Never thought I'd use the "niche" features of a router before but Flint2's integrated Tailscale feature was helpful when I decided to restart the PC I RDPed into interstate only to realize I didn't set up Tailscale to run on the PC as a service so I couldn't reconnect to it. But since I could connect to my router, I could ssh to it and connect to my PC from that.

    • How can you connect to the router remotely? And is it secure?

      • Probably SSH to the router via Tailscale, then SSH to the PC. This is all possible because not using SSH keys for authentication. It's secure because using the tailnet.

        • Ah yes cool because the router is then in the Tailscale network.

          • @gviddy: Even better, the router can route between Tailscale and physical subnets so you can connect direct to the PC even if it doesn't have Tailscale on it.

      • It has inbuilt wireguard support, quite handy.

  • Anyone in Perth able to order this? Says cant be shipped to my address.
Ive tried what @philm suggested but still says the same. Even tried multiple different addresses

    • Same with me also in Perth.

  • damn, bought it two month ago and it was 140 aud

  • Does anyone experience the issue as mine that I found the wifi connectivity in my Flint 2 is really intermittent and unstable, that's said when i tried to put the same ssid for both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, the logs were showing unstable with fighting each other and getting me unconnect to the wireless. I have to change back to my Telstra smart gen 2 as it's really smart band steering that i found it flawlessly when connecting, re-connecting.
I check this flint 3 has the smart band steering so i might give it a try

  • Anyone else having issues using code EOFY15? Says "total after discounts is below minimum". The total is $142 Aud

    • After changing to USD I saw that it's only $98, so I used EOFY10 instead - looks like the price must have dropped

      • No it's because the coupon appears to no longer work (likely all been redeemed). Try OZAU23 as that will bring it down to $88.83USD - the same discount as EOFY15.

  • Still incompatible with OpenWrt, if anyone is wondering. Flint2 is better in general, other than wifi7.

    • Flint 2 is perhaps the best router ever made in the entire universe x100.

    • 6ghz is very important to those who need it and if range isn't an issue then Flint 3 is faster too.

  • Just sharing that I have the Flint 3 and have no experience with the 2. I purchased it fully aware of the less powerful CPU and the reported less range, and also the non OpenWRT status.

I purchased it because it went on sale first. Not for any particular reason.

That being said, even with all the caveats vis-a-vis the Flint 2, the thing has been rock solid since I installed it. No one in the house has complained of poor wifi coverage or poor speeds or needing to reset stuff. Granted, it's only been online for the last three weeks. It replaced my AC68u, which was also incredibly stable (however, some family members complained of it needing "frequent" resets) I will admit that resets have been needed and have happened, but by no means would I consider a reset every few months to be "all-the-time"

I can also report that wifi coverage vs AC68u is comparable or better, at least our use case.

    • I wonder if they've improved the firmware through an update since the reports of those people having WiFi problems. And now that it's better and more stable.

    • I found the flint 2 had better coverage than AC68u. It literally punched through double brick wall (I live in an old house)!

      • Happy for you. In my own use case, since no one was complaining of spotty wifi coverage prior to the change to the Flint from the AC68u, it's difficult for me to make a valid comparison of before and after.

  • Looks like this one is back up to full price?
