For all the homelabbers out there is this network switch featuring five 2.5GbE RJ45 LAN ports with a single 10GbE SFP+ port and a 12V AU power adapter. Stack with 17% cashback from TopCashback and potentially Team OzBargain cashback. for further savings.

Switches with these speeds are becoming more relevant with the rollout of NBN Hyperfast plans. A standard gigabit switch can become a bottleneck when multiple devices are connected via Ethernet through your router to the NTD, preventing you from achieving full network speeds. They’re also ideal if you’re running equipment like a NAS with 2.5GbE ports, allowing for much faster local file transfer speeds.

Alternatively for US$20.62 (~A$28.91) you can get a similar switch from Horaco Official with four 2.5GbE LAN ports and two 10GbE SFP+ ports using the same coupon. Affordable SFP modules are available from both stores.

  • Saying the code is now unavailable

    • Try OZAU04 or FYAU04

      • OZAU04 Worked. Thanks!

  • I find the specs wierd, 2.5 and a 10g port yet device is only capable of 2Gbps

    • Uhhh what? The switch has 45Gbps switching capacity. 5x2.5G + 1x10G = 22.5Gbps of ports, which equals 45Gbps full duplex. Where are you getting 2Gbps from?

      • It lists transmission speed at 2000Mbps

        • Oh the "Specifications" part on AliExpress listings is always an inaccurate copy/paste. Actual specifications from the listing here and here

          • @Clear: Ok so just bad listing. 33 mpps is much better. But translates to about 2gbps at 64 byte packets (worst case).

            • @gromit: My calculation comes to just under 17Gbps? Did you remember to multiple by 8? (1byte = 8bits)

So 5 x 2Gbps + 10Gbps = 15Gbps, which means even in the worst case (64bytes per packet) the ports can be maxed out I think?

  • If anyone is wondering about the quality, I have a few horaco and goodtop switches running vlans, poe and 10gb and they have given me no trouble at all

    • I ordered mine from HORACO Direct Store
and received a "Goodtop" branded (box and device)
only issue was the power supply shipped with it makes a clicking noise and I just grabbed a spare 12v one
      I didn't care much as I paid $1.41Aud ($4.73aud inc tax)

    • Same.. And the cherry on top is they consume very little power (even if I have the managed version which potentially consumes more power).

  • Its only $9.81 AUD/$6.71 US with a new account as a welcome deal & 28% Cashback with Shopback

  • Thanks, got one for $9.34, happy with that!

    • You beat me, I got mine for $9.38.

  • What would you guys recommend if I plan on having an AP that needs Poe+?

Never heard of this brand before 😅

  • Have a UCG fibre as main router, thinking to get a unmanaged switch with 2.5Gb POE + SPF+10G to hook too AP to it

  • Is aliexpress.sjv.io a legit link?

    • Yes. It's an affiliate tracking link

  • Any recommendations for cheap SFP modules, cabling, and PCIe NICs to suit/utilise the 10G port(s), please?

    • Do your own research but ConnectX-3 or 4 are popular in the homelab community and aren't too hard to get working in win11.
Transceivers can be found on fs.com. they're cheap, or go DACs.

  • Can anyone recommend a value for money managed switch so I can create vlans etc?

    • Most folk skip straight to Ubiquiti when looking for feature rich switching.

    • Horaco has a managed version of this switch. I've been using it for a year or so now for my homelab, mainly to "sandbox" untrusted IoT devices in their own VLAN. No issues so far and has been working reliably.

    • I recently installed a couple of these, some limitations but running vlans and 3x 10GB3 SFP+ installed
      https://amzn.asia/d/07cKP8um

After paying $70 for the SFP RJ45 converter to connect my asus AXE11000 pro to the main switch :

I added a 10gb backbone from the core switch back down to me office (20m run) works fine, with a pair of these :
      https://amzn.asia/d/05QO6H4d

Had a lot of fun accidentally cutting myself off by separating out VLANS but at least my TV's and IOT (wired and wireless) are all separated out from main network now.

Can I tell the speed difference? Maybe slightly.

  • Any 16/24 ports 2GB switches?

  • If you have plenty of suitable power bricks or don’t mind an adapter check the prices for EU version etc.
I paid about $15 USD (including gst) whereas AU version was $21USD. Only difference being the power adapter socket.

I used an old modem adapter which seemed better quality also.

  • Sorry for the dumb question, but will this help the 1000/400 Aussie Broadband FTTP network in my house. I run from the NBN box to my Asus gigabit router then wifi amd gig Ethernet directly to two Mac Studios. Will the Horaco switch make any difference?

    • this would only help if you needed extra ethernet ports or had a connection in another room and needed multiple devices running from it

      • Cheers. Thanks.

  • can anyone recommend smallish (5-8 port) 2.5gig managed, PoE++ with VLAN support and LLDP?

  • Note these only actually benchmark at around 1.8Gbps in my testing.

  • Anyone else get a completely different brand?
    I got a GoodTop instead.

    • Interesting I saw a few of them in the reviews. I don't think it'll matter because they're all identical internally. My Hisource and Horaco are.

  • Ended up getting the "2.5GbE Managed Switch 8 Port 2.5GBASE-T Network Switch" (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005010660564526.html?) for AU$49.35.
    Can't wait to get it.
