Meguiar's Car Wash Gold Class 1.9L $21.99 + Delivery ($0 C&C/In-Store) @ Autobarn

Meguiars Gold Class Car Wash Shampoo & Conditioner is a rich and luxurious formula designed to both clean and condition paint in one easy step.

It appears Amazon and Bunnings haven’t price matched. $22 is usually a good price to purchase a decent car wash. It’s been my staple for a few years both for hand washing and foaming.

  • Bunnings price beat?

    • Just honor the source and go to autobarn

      • $31.60 for 3.9 litres
At Amazon is a pretty good deal too.
        Saves your petrol?

        • Link? I only found the 64oz

  • Good deal for Eddie

  • So I haven't cared for my car in years but have finally just bought a new vehicle and intend to actually have this one's paint last. Honestly, the idea of buying fancy shampoo never even occurred to me. So what does this do that the $5 Armor All doesn't?

    • The meguiars should have better lubricating suds that will create less micro scratches when agitating the paint. It will most likely contain better products that will leave the paint looking shinier. No point using meguiars and other shit products. It's all part of a process, including what you use to wipe down the paint etc.

      • "The meguiars should have better lubricating suds that will create less micro scratches when agitating the paint. It will most likely contain better products that will leave the paint looking shinier. No point using meguiars and other shit products."

So do you recommend meguiars or not?

        • I see my ambiguous conclusion now. Yes I recommend using meguiars products. I do not recommend you cheap out on other products to use in conjunction with the meguiars. Eg. That $1 jumbo sponge from Bunnings.

          • @MS Paint: OK, got you now.

            Yes, agree, sponges are rubbish.

Microfibre wash mits and the 2 bucket method is all I have been doing for the past 15 years.

When I was younger, clay bar, polish, wax.. no time for that anymore lol.

        • *no point using Meguiars with shit products

    • Some Armour All products are good, most are average.

This isnt even considered fancy. There is a whole world of "fancy products" if you look into car detailing products online.

    • Honestly you're better off buying a standalone Shampoo, even the Meguiar's Hyper Wash which is PH balanced, and using a dedicated wax product. The wash and wax products in one normally aren't great and prone to leaving streaks/hazing etc.

    • Yeah it suds up better, it leaves a darker deeper shine. If you like keeping your car looking nice it's worthwhile.

Armor All fine for the work truck or A-B car though, does okay

    • I use that cheap armour all on the wheels and tyres as a soap in the third wheels bucket and that's it.

    • If you are really keen, do a ceramic coat.

I did the above. For a new car it should be relatively easy…

      • I've very much been looking into getting it professionally done but have been reluctant to drop another thousand dollars. I did a fair bit of reading into DIY solutions and it just sounded like the prep involved was insane. But I'm very open to the idea!

        • It took me 16 hours with mine. BUt I had to do some paint correction etc. With a new car it's much easier.

          • @Naigrabzo: What do you use as a 'paint correction' ?

            • @whyisave: It's step 3 in this guide. paint correct = polish but it can be more involved in older cars.

              https://www.chemicalguys.com/blogs/ceramic-how-tos/how-to-pr…

              • @Naigrabzo: Thanks for that link.

They've listed the principles behind 'paint correction', but still also pushing their product.

I already have a Chemical Guys product (their bug/tar removing solution) but I didn't know which paint correction compound to use (a lot people say Meguiar's Ultimate Compound, because it's a no-fuss and just available at places like Supercheap Auto).

                • @whyisave: I used Meguirs actually. It depends on your car and how much correction to do. I found it really tricky as you need to try different pads etc and see the result. In the end I got it done but it was heaps of work. Now my car is super easy to wash and nothing sticks to it. I really recommend the high grade Gtechniq.

      • I've always wondered how much it actually cost to produce a ceramic coating product.

Also wondering how effective one from Ali-Express is compared the full name brand stuff.

Only real way to find out is to say apply half a panel/car and then go test it 12 months later lol

How would you rate the Ali-Express product?

        • GTechniq ultra is superb! Mine is over 1 year old and still beads like crazy. The car is super easy to clean.

          • @Naigrabzo: How old was your car/paint that you needed to spend 16 hours for the job?

By hand or used a machine?

            • @JimB: Machine. It just took me ages to figure out how to get rid of swirls. It was mid winter and maybe it hardened the clear coat or something. Car is only from 2023 but white so it's kinda hard to see. Having poor lighting also compounded the issue.

              • @Naigrabzo: My car is about the same age but paint is in very good condition with no swirls.

I wonder if I could just apply the ceramic coating after just claybaring without polishing it?

    • I was the same about 'fancy car shampoos', but after the last few years of using this Meguiar's Gold Class, with foam cannon + 2-buckets hand-wash, and a liquid wax, …. I do not regret any of these purchases or the method.

In about 2-hours' time, I can have the car looking sparkling,…and even if I didn't use the liquid wax, this Gold Class leaves the car shiny,.. with a 'nice smell' too, ha.

      Go for this Gold Class.
      It's worth it.

      PS:
I'm yet to go down the path of clay-bar and buff-polishing the wax.

  • From what I hear automotive stores are doing it pretty tough at the moment. Happy to support Autobarn vs Amazon just to give them a sale. C&C is close enough.

  • I have this and use with my pressure washer and snow foam gun but I do not get the snow foams that you see on Youtube videos.

is it impacted by the type of foam bottle or the amount of soap/water mix or something else?

    • you might need to use the 1mm nozzle tip

I'm using it and it foams very well

    • Warm water?

    • You need to make it thick, that's what she said

      • More soap -> more suds and foam

    • Are you foaming a dry car?

  • I'm pretty sure Autobarn have a minimum 30% off ALL Meguiar's products at the moment https://autobarn.com.au/ab/Autobarn-Category/Shop-our-Full-R…

  • I use Meguiar’s Wash & Wax

    I wonder how this compares?

I use Wash & Wax but deep down I doubt there's any wax left on the paint after I rinse the detergent off lol

    • This is more of a cleaner. If you think wash and wax doesn't really make your car glossy, then this is worse. It's more for a deep clean and another product does the wax/silca coat/

      • I've always used wash and wax because I'm too lazy to separately wash and wax lol.

My car is a couple of years old and it does leave the paint looking good. No complaints but wasn't sure if the wash and wax provided any tangible difference.

The cost of wash and wax is similar to just a shampoo anyway.

I purchased Autoglym Rapid Ceramic Spray. I'll get around to actually using it one day.

        • Yeah this is not for you then. Wash and wax is better if you just do one pass clean imo.

          • @Calvin27: Cheers, at least the car looks decent after a wash with W&W.

  • Pretty much the price it was 5yrs ago….who would pay $40 for car wash

    • There are people who pay 20-30 for a single wash at those automatic ones

Also I wonder why things were cheaper 5 years ago… 😱

      • Yeah people lining up at the car washes blow my mind too, you can save alot of money washing at home

        • Maybe they live in an apartment and there’s no easy way to wash their car themselves?

      • Auto ones destroy your paint. You'd never see an enthusiast lining up there to destroy their clear coat.

        • 100% agree with you

I only ever used a touchless ones when I'm short for time or if a bird has shit on my car and I'm on my way home.

But there are also people who wash at home who would just go straight bucket and sponge to their paint so scrub off the dirt…. or wash their wheels first and then use that same one on the paint… it hurts just thinking about that 😂

          • @R3STRIKT3D: TBF most people don't even notice swirls… :) Some darker colours will accentuate swirls though. Darker mettalic colours look amazing with CEramic. Best example I have seen is Toyora RAV4 2021-2024 blue colour. It looks dramatic with ceramics. Also Some of the Porche colours are amazing…

  • Should I get this or wash and wax?

  • Walked in Bunnings, found the same product. Asked cashier if they would price match. They checked Autobarn website and I have been advsied that they were different products. Bunnings - 1.89L, Autobarn - 1.9L. However after checked the image, they agreed to price beat lol.

    • That’s good because they’re the same product. It’s a half gallon bottle either way.

  • bunnings matched the price

    • Thanks ordered one from them

    • Free delivery with one pass

    • Bunnings will now ask Meguiar's to provide a different sizes that are exclusive to Bunnings so they don't have to match the price

  • Whenever I see good class on special I remember this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/881342
