About the Airline

Fiji Airways: Fiji Airways is the national carrier of Fiji, connecting the Pacific islands with Asia, Australia, and North America. The airline operates a modern fleet including Airbus A350s and Boeing 737s, offering a warm Fijian hospitality experience. With their hub at Nadi International Airport, Fiji Airways provides convenient connections between Australia and Japan, allowing passengers to enjoy a tropical stopover if desired.

About the Destination

Tokyo: Japan's capital blends ultramodern and traditional, from neon-lit skyscrapers to historic temples. Experience the bustling energy of Shibuya crossing, the tranquility of the Imperial Palace gardens, and the early morning tuna auctions at Tsukiji Market. Tokyo offers world-class dining from street food to Michelin-starred restaurants, cutting-edge technology, and rich cultural experiences.

Sakura Season: These flights cover the spectacular cherry blossom season (late March to early May 2027), when Japan transforms into a pink-and-white wonderland. The sakura typically bloom in Tokyo around late March to early April, making it one of the most magical times to visit Japan. Parks like Ueno and Shinjuku Gyoen become popular hanami (flower viewing) spots where locals and tourists gather for picnics under the blooming trees.

  • Had a quick look at SYD routes, both options i saw have travel time >1 day with 11hr & 14hr layovers sadly
Nadi is a pretty crappy intl terminal, but this deal could be good if you want to spend a bit of a time there

  • If you take up a deal like this, can you spend a few days in Fiji and get the connecting flight?

    • Yes but expect to pay more for the flights. E.G. I just looked at Canberra - Nadi - Tokyo - Nadi - Canberra using the start and end dates of one of the promoted fares (12 Feb - 6 Mar) and the cheapest I could get as lay over option (4 days outbound, 0 days inbound) was $1300.

      • I am looking in April 2027 and getting ~$1250 at best from CBR without stops, so that is not bad.

Edit: now found $1k-ish, but still think $1300 with stopovers is not bad.

  • A month ago I was planning my JP trip early 2027. I almost booked my tickets with Fiji airways due to its competitive prices.
But I didn't as I am worry about the Iran war may cause the airline to go bankrupt.
Fiji Airways has been making a loss for years since COVID.
In 2024 they were in 11.4 million USD deficit and still own 300 million USD of debt.
I don't want to risk my trips.

  • Jetstar smoke these prices for a lot over those dates.
