Yes, there are outdoor smart plugs but TP-Link don't sell their version in Australia afaik. Meross does.

One was plugged into a TV and another to my Router so they can be switched off in the night. Pretty dodgy of those to stop working after exactly 2 years though

Recently found that Samsung SmartThings works as a workaround for me. Brought all my non Matter stuff under a single app and then connect to my tags so now I am showing off clicking button my Samsung SmartTags2 and lights and switches flicking on and off across Tapo and Tuya… 😋

if you getting a well known brand e.g. tapo
it can do simple automations using WHEN IF THEN etc..
You can also add it to google home / alexa etc and not need to use the proprietary app…
This is good enough for most people who just need to turn on/off the lights with voice command or motion detection etc..
Home assistant and steps 3 to 8 is only needed if you want to do more advanced home automations etc..
the problem is they need to be on 24/7 so we can control. and obviously sometimes we need to manually turn it on, and when we finish we turn it off (by the switch)…
I found I just got used to not touching the switches. Most of my lights go on/off automatically anyway.
Yes so you stick a bit of tape over the top of the switches so you don't make that mistake.
Smart bulbs should ideally be used in conjunction with motion or presence sensors, timers or smart switches. Otherwise there is zero point.

the problem is they need to be on 24/7 so we can control.
this isn't the problem/issue
the real issue is when your non tech family members turn it off at the physical switch which affects your automations…
these smart light bulbs should be
-paired with motion sensors/presence sensor
-schedule timers
-and optional smart buttons (if some people wants to actually press a physical button)
So that you don't need to physically real light switches anymore..
Then we should put tape over the actual light switches so that others don't turn it on/off which makes the smart bulb go offline and screws up your automations etc.

you can add the tapo bulbs to google or alexa and do automations in their app.
I think the ikea hub only works with matter compatible bulbs (and especially with ikea bulbs)

I've got a few of these, b22s. My e27s were some cheap laser bulbs ages ago.
Default app is fine. Integration to ghome is fine.
The only problem with some of these is that a power blip, even though it's not a 3-4 on off will occasionally reset them.
I've also found sometimes multi band WiFi networks have trouble with them. So I usually temporarily turn off my 5/6ghz bands to pair them initially. Once paired it's fine.
Ideally tho you have a dedicated 2.4ghz IOT network for all these.. But I've always been lazy about this lol
TP link Tapo bulbs no longer can be added into home assistant. They rolled out an update recently. In case someone is planning to add them.

+1 for home assistant. Love going from 6 apps down to 1 and controlling/customising everything to my liking. For anyone reading don't bother using home assistant in a Docker container its complete rubbish

Stopped buying these as you cannot turn them off at the switch. Utterly dumb design, needlessly shit like that considering I've got old Kasa that can retain pairing information without being used for 1 year at the switch.
These lights don't get very bright imo
Came to say this, they’re pretty poor if you’re after brightness.
Can also confirm it's very dim. I have other smart light with the same lumen and it's significantly brighter.
wouldn't recommend for a bedroom, they buzz when you turn up the brightness, and even when off it is slightly audible - super annoying.
