Hyundai i30 N Line Sedan

I'm doing some research on the 2025/2026 Hyundai i30 N Line sedan and was wondering if anyone here owns an i30 and would like to share their experiences - what impresses you about the car and what disappoints you?

Also, what do you think is the leeway to negotiate with the dealer on a brand new one of these things? Are they desperate to sell to compete with the influx of Chinese cars, or is there enough demand for the i30 that they don't care if people walk?

  • Isn't the N line the one with all the bling and none of the zing? Like wearing activewear to sit on the couch.

    • Not sure about the sedan, but the hatch version at least has the 1.6T engine. Obv not quite the 2.0T of the N, but better than the standard 1.6.

    • So N is the real deal and N Line is just the trim?

      • Yep, it's like having a C200 with AMG badges. Doesn't impress anyone.

        • These days AMG won't impress anyone either, it aren't come in V8, perhaps in future. 😉

          • @boomramada: Omg the older c63s soo good!

            • @ATTS: Older c63s is really good,
but new C200 is nicer car to drive. These days if you want to impress anyone, you need at least G63 lol

              • @boomramada: Yeah c63s good

                C200 lol not enough power

I want to feel like flying eg c63s lol

The G63 nice also - way bettwr than the jeep or that small Suzuki ( jimmy?)

    • im sitting here in my LSKD and Citrin activewear

  • I have a 2023 i30N with DCT (not the N-line). Have been very happy with it. The one annoying thing about it is a rattle from somewhere in the centre console on rough road surfaces.

The (wet clutch) DCT in the N is absolutely awesome.

I got a base model i30 sedan for the day while mine was being serviced. It felt so cheap and nasty inside compared to the N. I'd definitely get the N-Line over the base model. One bloody annoying thing about the newer models is all the warnings re speed and lane departure. I can only imagine how bad the latest 'distracted driver' warnings must be. I feel I got the sweet spot for this tech, as the only annoying warning is the lane departure one - which can easily be switched off.

I'm about to sell the N, the only reason being that I have also bought a farm and now I need that cash to buy some farm equipment haha.

    • Yeah I've got a 2023 i30N Premium DCT and it's a great car, I love it. Don't think I'll now buy a newer car. Glad I went with the '23 model to avoid the overbearing driver assist crap in the newer ones. I've pretty much switched off all of the driver assists and, fortunately, they stay turned off. Also a big fan of mine explicitly not having a digital dash, have seen quite a few fail so I'm happy with the analog cluster. I do agree with you about the annoying odd rattle that you get…my centre console doesn't rattle but I do seem to get some slight rattle near the top of the B pillars that I can't figure out what it is. Other than that, I love the car, 10/10.

    • Thank you for the feedback!

I read the N Line has dry clutch, which can be problematic in heavy traffic. Wish they used wet clutch for the N Line too

    • I hope that includes a zero turn mower for around the house.

  • Dry clutch DCT = hard nope.

    • It’s not a VW bro

      • Any dry dct is bad.

  • Our 2008 i30 CRDI is still going strong and has been a very reliable car. The paint faded as its a red one but the only mechanical issues have been replacing the rear wheel bearings, clutch slave cylinder and an ESP sensor (replaced under warranty).
Fuel economy is impressive at 5.6l per 100km around town and as low as 4.6l on the freeway. I wouldn't buy another diesel with all the emissions crap these days but would consider a petrol one.

  • I’ve got an i30 N Line sedan (2021) myself mechanically it's the exact same 1.6T and 7-speed dry DCT powertrain as the new facelifts and sitting at 124,000 km now, I can tell you it's a stylish car that easily punches above its weight with plenty of torque for quick traffic catch ups. On a straight run from Sydney to Melbourne I once hit 4.6L/100km, and even standard city driving stays under 8L/100km unless you’re stuck in a heavy traffic. Maintenance is generally cheap with most logbook services running under $400, but for the 60k and 120k major services can get quite expensive (Hovering around $650?). There was clutch wear of about 50% when odometer hit 105K which i had it replaced under warranty. I don't think Hyundai will just take off thousands off the car but i think it's so worth it even at RRP. I guess your best bet for negotiation is pushing hard for them to throw in window tinting, genuine floor mats, a full tank of fuel, or the first couple of minor services for free.

    • Thanks for sharing! Have you had any issues with the DCT? Or have you had to drive it any differently in heavy traffic to avoid damaging DCT?

      • Not necessarily. My recent replacement with clutch pack, now it drives like a butter. I didn’t really have any habit to reduce or slow down clutch wear but i did have shudder after 8-90k odo (clutch wears out inevitably) and the dealership will run a test if it’s severe enough for a replacement. Honestly, the people that scares you telling Hyundai 7-speed dry DCT are bad never owned one themselves. (It’s obvious that 8-speed wet DCT like the real N has is better but dry DCT isn’t some garbage)

  • N Line

spend the extra and get the N.

The N-line is like the "BMW m-sport" or the "S-line" audi. it's the poor mans upgrade and people who don't know anything about vehicles thinks they're comparable to M series or the RS.

    • Audi recent restyle their Ax logo in black colour to look exactly like the RS badge.

I reckon a base model with the blacked out badge will do.

  • Depreciation on the I30N and N line sedan is worse than hatchback. Can pick them up ex demo and used for decent discount. Ive driven the i30N DCT hatch and thought it was great. Id rather a low kay used i30N than a new N-line. Personally Id go a new i20N.

I have older version of the Smartstream G4FJ 1.6T motor and its been solid with the right maintenance and fuel.
