So weโre celebrating National Donut Day a bit later and giving away 100 FREE DONUTS on SATURDAY (6th June) at a special event! ๐
Why? Because everyone deserves a donut, not just the people who can sneak away on a weekday. ๐

What's the difference between a normal donut and a vegan donut?
Most traditional donuts are not vegan because they contain animal products like milk, butter, eggs, and sometimes lard in the frying oil. However, many specialty bakeries and major brands now offer delicious dairy- and egg-free alternatives.
sounds like you're taking all the fun out of a donut
nah just the cruelty
@tenpercent: All cocks in the egg industry are killed (usually by maceration) in their first days of life - noone is spending money feeding them if they don't lay eggs.
Hens are most often confined in horrendous conditions.
Hens live their lives amongst thousands of others, outside their previously natural social conditions. No roosters, no kids, nada.
Hens have been selectively bred to produce 200+ eggs per year - naturally they'd do about a tenth of that - and it takes a massive toll on their bodies.
Hens are slaughtered at around 2 years old because they lay less eggs than their daughters - the industry calls them "spent."
If you use eggs you support all of the above.
@tenpercent: You never eat out? You never buy any food items from the supermarket?
Specifically here: you never eat donuts?
Please tell us where you get all your eggs!
Conditions 1 and 4 are true for any egg.
Hens live their lives amongst thousands of others, outside their previously natural social conditions.
Umm, they were specifically produced to lay eggs. They never knew any previous natural social conditions. Their job is to lay eggs, they are not being deprived of anything, they don't know or have never experienced anything different.
@Satchimo: Correct.
That does not diminish their suffering nor any other natural inclination.
Their job is your imposition.
They are being deprived of freedom to explore their own interests, whatever they are for them.
Children born into poverty have never experienced anything different - that doesn't make it any better for them.
These are the same arguments that have justified all sorts of human hierarchies like slavery and sexism.
@fantombloo: These chickens were only created to produce eggs. Had they not have been wanted for egg production, they would never have been born. They're not missing out on anything. They were never supposed to have it. They were intentionally produced for the specific reason of producing food.
@Satchimo: So they're non-human slaves and you chose not to concern yourself with how they feel and suffer and, like any sentient being, desire freedom.
Making someone only to exploit them for your own purpose. You seem fine with that. I wonder how you'd feel if you were born the chicken and not the muppet.
Mmmm….. lard!
I don't know. What is the difference between a normal donut and a vegan donut?
Krispy Kreme Original Glazed doughnuts are actually Vegan (no dairy/animal).
no wonder i never feel full even after a dozen
Haha that's 139g of sugar!
No wonder I've always hated them and preferred even Coles brand donuts.
The taste. But seriously, its not that bad. Cheap pastries often replace butter with saturated vegetable oil. There are chemicals that substitute for eggs - vegetable protein and yeast-based flavour.
You want something truely awful? Try gluten-free doughnuts :-)
You want something truely awful? Try gluten-free doughnuts :-)
no no, try vegan, gluten free and sugar-free hemp crepes, they are truly insanely awful.
Like why? Is it healthier??
Veganism has nothing to do with health, it's purely against animal suffering
Such a difficult concept to comprehend…
nothing to do with health, it's purely against animal suffering
So telling that nonvegans downvote a simple statement of fact without any direct judgement.
Not all farming involves animals suffering.
What do you propose? Let's kill all the livestock to end their supposed suffering? Or sterilise them and just wait for them to all die of old age and for those species of animals to be extinct?
What do you propose? Let's kill all the livestock to end their supposed suffering
Dude, you endlessly kill all livestock and keep breeding more into existence to perpetuate their suffering.
just wait for them to all die of old age and for those species of animals to be extinct?
Yes. Domesticated "food" animals have no natural place in the world. They have been specifically bred to be big and fat and frankensteins and profitable - and suffer for it.
Lvestock makes up around 65% of earths biomass, we humans around 30%, free roaming animals barely 10%. Everyone is better off with these domesticated animals removed from existence.
@fantombloo: So once we are done with this genocide of so many animal species, many almost as old as humankind, should all carnivorous species of animals be made extinct too?
@tenpercent: Genocide? You are perpetually killing them, over and over again, like genocide over and over.
How come you suddenly care for these animals considering you pay to have them killed all the time?
Wanna not "genocide 'em" and let them roam free? Go for it - they'll regulate out just like all other natural species, most will probably die anyway.
Carnivores or any other nondomesticated species? Easy, leave them alone. If we didn't bring them into a terrible existence ourselves and they're not bothering us then why would we do anything else?
Stop clutching at straws. The ethical and many other practical cases for ending animal exploitation are logical and based on solid knowledge, at least in developed countries. Whether you wish to accept that is your own thing.
Carnivores or any other nondomesticated species? Easy, leave them alone. If we didn't bring them into a terrible existence ourselves and they're not bothering us then why would we do anything else?
What about their victim species? Won't you think of the poor birds the snakes eat alive! Or won't you think of the victims of parasitoid wasps who lay eggs into the flesh of other animals whereupon the larvae will consume the victim from the inside out? Or how the baby seals that orcas separate from their mothers followed by ramming, biting, and raking them to injure and exhaust them; attacks can include repeatedly forcing calves under the surface to drown. Hunts can be prolonged (hours) and involve multiple individuals taking turns attacking and feeding.
Or am I mistaken? Only humans eating other animals is bad?
@tenpercent: If animals in the wild do something that we can identify as wrong and immoral, why would we use that as justification for humans to then do things we deem immoral? Nobody is trying to prevent these animals from doing what they do to survive, but we as the more intelligent of the animals on this earth, can see when things aren't morally right and we can adjust our habits to reduce these things.
@XVX: I'm just asking for consistency. If it's 'bad' when humans raise livestock well cared for and well fed and with healthcare so they don't suffer from illness and they are slaughtered as painlessly and quickly as possible (no not like certain religions of peace and no not like battery farms or American style cattle feed lots), then it's also bad if wild animals eat other animals alive or beat them to death to then be eaten, etc, etc.
@tenpercent: Why do you care what other animals do when you don't even care about what you do to them?
Now you're talking about other religions and how they do it worse. Notwithstanding the West kills more than anybody else.
Peak psychological projection and tu quoque. You're an imbecile. Catch ya later.
@fantombloo: I already told you I don't consume eggs from battery farmed hens. You're delusional and hyped up on vegan propaganda footage from corporate American farms.
@tenpercent: If other animals do something, then you can do it too? Basing your ethics on the actions of other animals that don't have moral agency? lol cool argument
@Raynes: You're either misinterpreting or misrepresenting my argument. I'm arguing we should cull all carnivorous species of animals on the planet unless they willing go vegan.
@tenpercent: Why? You're not a lion. A lion doesn't have moral agency. Just because a lion needs to kill to survive doesn't mean you need to.
Why?
Because killing other animals is cruel or something, right?
I don't know which species you belong to, but I'm from an omnivorous species.
@tenpercent: Again you're not a lion. You're a human with moral agency.
Just because you can kill someone, does that mean you should?
You're a human with moral agency.
I don't think that moral agency is a requirement for some action to be good or bad.
We don't suggest that viruses and deadly bacteria have moral agency but we try to kill or eliminate them because what they do is bad. The destination matters, not only the journey.
Just because you can kill someone, does that mean you should?
That would depend on the circumstances, wouldn't it? Assuming your moral agency assertion were correct (it's not though), I'd contend that I have never killed someone and never would (except possibly in self defence, but that would be very unlikely).
How about late term abortions? Just because you can kill it, does that mean you should?
I'd also like to add that many researchers believe dolphins have moral agency. So how should we deal with them, seeing as we are the superior moral agents here, if they don't voluntarily convert to veganism?
its a cult
The pastries (and donuts) at this place are amazing.
Fresh from Vega?
