Hi Oz Bargain!

I'm Dom, Owner and designer of Grip Auto Timepieces, an Australian automotive-inspired watch brand. A number of people in the watch community recommended OzBargain as a great platform, so I thought I'd introduce myself and offer the OzBargain community access to a small Outlet Collection.

We've opened a small Outlet Collection containing remaining inventory, discontinued models, display pieces, selected clearance stock and a small number of watches with minor cosmetic imperfections. All watches are fully functional and covered by our warranty for operational defects.

In most cases, these imperfections are difficult to notice during normal wear - However, because they did not meet our usual quality control standards, we have chosen to offer them through our Outlet Collection at significantly reduced prices.           Hey @G-Shock and @Nalar,

          Please see my comment above that I just made.

          I own one of Grip Auto’s watches personally.

          I am also new to Oz bargain, so don’t really understand if I have done something wrong here.
          If I have, I apologise.

          To clear it up, the MWC posts from before I joined, they were from the previous owner.
          I bought the company back in 2022.
          So yes, I have posted once and voted once as I only started using it in the past month or so.

          I hope this clears things up.

      I thought I would clear this up.

      I liked the post because I personally own one of grip auto’s watches.

      I only liked the post because it is a great deal and the quality of the watches are good too.

      Maybe I shouldn’t have liked the post. I see now it might seem suss.
      Apologies for any confusion or misconception.

    OP - Where are the watches made (manufactured and assembled)? Google lens search shows the case being similar to some Chinese watches with some dial differentiation and Miyota 2115 Movement in these two watches - which is generally used on very low cost watches. On the website and the watches, there is no mention of it either but all I was able to find was 'designed' or 'managed' in Australia.

      Most stuff is made and assembled in China, similar to AliExpress watches, pretty standard. Rolex is.

      The main to look out for these days are the parts and quality of them. Can be hard to tell sometimes and up to you if you like the style.

        Made in China is not the issue. The issue is the branding of the product as Australian Designed and Managed and not being upfront about where it is made. The watches are sold at a hefty price even at the sale price under Microbranding but uses very poor Miyota Movement.

        I would support a brand that is upfront and open to its customers. This just doesnt feel like it.

          Yes well obviously it's just desiged in Australia, it doesn't say where it is designed.

          Which miyota movement, very light on information on the outlet site. Miyota is fine it's it's a 9000 series, citizen still putting 8000 series in some of their watches, those are average.

          I would just treat them as an unknown brand and avoid. Jomw on YouTube is good for micro and Ali brand reviews and suggestions.

            @G-Shock: As mentioned above, one of the watches (Tourismo) states it has Miyota 2115 which is decades old, is used in very cheap watches (the likes of Addesive from Amazon), is quite inaccurate and is very poor for the price of this watch.

            Campione does not state which Miyota movement at all.

            It feels like a Microbrand using specific dial design with off the shelf cheap watch and marking it up under the ‘Australian’ designed branding to sell at a hefty price.

              Yes you are in fact correct I designed these about 10 years ago hence the 2115 movement is now out of date and why we are moving these on to make way for new models and up to date specification. That is not to say there is anything wrong with these watches. at $160AUD for a new watch with warranty, sapphire crystal, Reliable movement and quality fit and finish is good value. I can guarantee these are not a cheap off the shelf watch as you described, I have rejected many prototypes from several manufacturers that would be perfectly suited to the cheap off the shelf watches you refer to but
              I have put a lot of time and money into developing my watches and building this brand over the past decade and happy to sit down and go over the watches and even give you a run through all the prototypes I failed and the reasons why, along with future release prototypes we are currently testing for feedback.

          happy to answer any and all questions. Having something designed to specification and rejecting poorer quality manufacturers until finding one that is right, the R&D etc.. brings the cost of manufacturing higher. Based in Australia also I have the watches shipped to me first for additional QC on each and every watch before I send them to customers and this all adds to the cost. Happy to show the watches to try on if anyone is based in Melbourne.

          (These are in fact designed by me, though several years ago now hence the movement in them is now outdated and why we are moving stock in preparation for new models. I went through several manufacturers at the time before settling on one that I was happy with the quality standard of the watch and yes manufactured in Hong Kong/China I have several manufacturers for different models and components. The movements are Japanese Miyota. The Chronograph it uses an OS21 Miyota movement. And all watches use sapphire crystal instead of mineral.)

I would suggest that information is updated on the website too as we (watch collector community) are generally pretty savvy and like to analyse all the specs before making the next purchase (which is admittedly too often)!
