What’s more surprising is that they can sell an unchanged product for more than a decade. Same goes with the BDB which is a near perfect machine even today.

i think at the time i got the dual boiler under 1000$ so when i needed a smart grinder i think i didnt want to wait for a sale because it was still cheaper than the dual boiler + smart grinder combo elsewhere
Also didnt feel like using the older style burr grinder with manual dosing while waiting for a sale

No! I presume they must be the problem, but are they user serviceable?

You can try the cleaning steps I posted. Its only a 10 minute job. If you have an air compressor its great to blast air to dislodge grinds that are stuck further through where you can't reach too.
Often can find replacement parts on Aliexpress listed as Breville/Sage (US brand name) compatible though I haven't needed to replace anything.

Been using one of these for years, been decent, though seem to need to be slowly grinding finer and finer to get a good coffee. i.e. I am sure I had it on 6-8 fineness at the start but now use 5.
Have you given it a good clean out? Buy some coffee grinder cleaner, run a couple batches through. Then remove the adjustable ring that sits around the grinder, soak and clean to get rid of any oils. Unscrew the cap nut (opposite thread) and pull the burr grinder parts out (careful as there is a soft fabric ring and a couple small metal washers that like to drop out on the floor). Get the vacuum in there and poke around with a toothpick to ensure all parts are clean. Reassemble and grind a bit of coffee through to remove residue from grinder cleaner.
Mine is going on 10 years and still doing a great job. I clean it with grinder cleaner every few kgs and then do the above every 6 months or so.
EDIT: minor changes in grind setting could also be humidity and differences in roast/bean. Even across same beans I use different grind settings throughout the year.
I’ve do the grinder cleaner 40g bout each month. And the big clean out maybe 6 months. Can’t remember how long I’ve had it with dual boiler
I do give it a back clean every now and then but found it hard to actually clean well. I didn’t know grinder cleaner stuff existed so will have a look cheers.
The felt washer inside there will quite possibly disintegrate when you pull the grinder apart (especially if it's more than a couple of years old). Be ready with a replacement, or be prepared to wait for a replacement to arrive in the mail. You can get them on aliexpress for a few of bucks for a handful of them (or a lot more from breville or spare parts supplier)

Isn't Baratza just a brand?

I dont think so - I think they are only using Baratza burrs in the integrated grinders.
The website doesnt mention Baratza burrs for the SGP (whereas the pages for the integrated grinders, like on the Barista Pro, Oracle, etc, do list Baratza burrs as a feature).
Also same price direct from Breville with free shipping over $49 so might be able to get a better deal through a price match somewhere?
To save anyone the trouble, the best JB said they can do is a price match, but nothing better.

I think is good for its price, I had mone for 5 years now.
Only problem I had was with medium roast and decaf not fine enough, that was fixed with chnage the upper burrs to 3 from 6.
This vs Baratza Encore ESP for $279? What's the verdict? Or something else that's not $1000 etc to pair with breville bambino plus
DF54 or Varia VS3 would be better alternatives in the same price range, albeit both are single dose rather than having a hopper.
ESP. Although as mentioned there are a few other grinders to check out as well at this price range.

Use this for pour overs so I'm grinding at about setting 50, hasn't missed a beat in 7 years or so
I paid $289 in Sept 2023, so, this is a great price!
Main problem is that it retains a fair amount of powder. If you make just one shot you'll end up with partially old grind. So the first shot after cleaning always tastes better and i serve guests only the second cup onward.
Otherwise it's a good product and a good price. Had mine since 2016, $180ish, 3 shots a day avg. Grind setting needs down adjusting over the years.

Good spot. Was waiting for cost justification for another appliance i dont actually need but convinced myself I did.
Great for espresso, but creates a lot of fines in coarser grinds. Good price though; I just sold my 5-year old one for $190, which is around the going 2nd-hand price; same price I got it for 5 years ago.
I use with the Breville Dual Boiler - pulls a great shot, though don't expect much from the time-based dosing. If you preweigh and pull shots, I find zero retention at the 5-1 espresso dial setting.
A brief mention of how it compares to the old, old OzBargain classic, the cheap commercial entry level Cunill Tranquilo that I ran from 2016-2020, when I switched to the BSG which was bundled with the Breville Dual Boiler.
The Breville Smart Grinder (BSG) has a smaller motor, small burrs, smaller hopper, and whilst technically stepless its a bit imprecise in dialing in its grind. But I've found it has pretty small retention for its price, and I'm just not bothered to run the bigger Tranquilo when the BSG is able to pull an excellent shot consistently (presuming fresh but frozen beans, pre weighed, single shots).
This summary is spot on.
I have a 64mm flat burr grinder that I use where I REALLY want to taste the beans in straight coffee drinks like espresso, but the smart grinder is a total champ in milk drinks when you use fresh beans.

Wifey gave an ultimatum to get a new new quiet one or she will chuck the sunbeam in the bin, we live in a small house and the noisy bit of kit wakes her and the kids up , ( excaberated by the thumping on the table to get the stuck grounds out)
This is what i upgraded from (included with the Sunbeam EM6900), definite improvement in noise.
Best part, my wife gets up when i do. Grinds, pulls a shot (I drink espressos) and delivers it to our room after i get out of the shower. Made possible by programming the grinder to produce roughly the right amount of coffee and to make the process relatively easy
