    • If item free, no purchase necessary to own, excellent loophole you've found

      • i want them free and sell for fee

  • Nah doesn't seem like a good deal at all…

  • I have one, not recommended, lagging and required subscription for recording, Eufy better option.

  • Friends don't let friends buy Ring

    • only the good friends. The bad ones on the other hand..

  • This is a low price for a basic doorbell camera. But most of the useful features require an active subscription which makes it very expensive over time so it's much less of a bargain than it appears.

Ring is owned by Amazon, which has a track record of outright evil behavior and prematurely bricking devices by withdrawing support. Plus all proprietary, closed, cloud-based ecosystems are best avoided.

Spend $20 extra and get a similarly basic doorbell, but without the subscription paywall. The TP-Link one is a good option - at $64 outright at Good Guys, plus a $20 SD card, you'll break even on costs compared to the Ring in less than a year and have a better device to boot.

  • Decent price but as mentioned above, a lot of the useful stuff is hidden behind a paywall. If you're running Home Assistant and don't care for those features, it's pretty fun to have it take a snapshot, fire it off to AI and then use Text To Speech (or just a notification if you don't have a speaker) to describe the image in a short summary.. or tell it to roast the person if you want a laugh at the same time.

  • BEWARE OF RING PRODUCTS.

There are plenty of alternatives with varying (& mostly better) feature sets.

  • Agreed don’t buy. Sub is ridiculous.
