  • Couldn't Get Officeworks to Price Beat due the Model Number missing on BigW Site :(

    • better wait for next gen. Coming soon with more ram for AI

      • More RAM = good

        AI = bad

Turning off AI and use the extra for RAM processing = best option :D

    • How many "Apple iPad (A16) Wi-Fi 128GB - <colour>" for $599 do they think Apple make???

    • How ridiculous

    • Got it done this morning before 9am over the phone. Pink model specifically

      • got them to $474.05 When Amazon did it for $499!

    • Maybe someone can go into Big W and take a photo of the price with the barcode number and ipad model number

    • Amazon have price matched so you should be able to price beat using that

      • yeah went back when Amazon did update and OW beat it 5%

        • +1, amazon price beat for the W

    • Same :(

    • They do that on purpose.

  • Potentially $453ish via WW Marketplace & cashback.

  • I think it’s great value even at $499 , feels nice and snappy.

  • Should we wait for the next gen to come out for a further discount?

    • I don’t know, should we?

    • Waiting around for cheaper hardware has been a sure-fire path to disappointment over the past couple of years.

Are prices turning around now? I don’t have a crystal ball.

    • Looks like we shouldn't buy, could be a new one very soon … https://buyersguide.macrumors.com/#iPad

    • Apple products keep their value like crazy! Personally, if it's something I was going to buy sooner or later, I would buy it sooner and enjoy using it until the new model came out.

I might even wait a bit when the new model came out to avoid the rush, who knows, the new model might not be worth upgrading to (depending on what I'm looking for in the product).

In any case, I'm sure that I could sell my used, older, Apple product for not much less than what I paid for it.

  • Hi guys,
Just wondering is this a good ipad? I've been looking for a replacement for my 4 year old.
    Thanks :)

    • look at a 9th gen ipad - will be a lot cheaper to get a refurb and its great for that age, fully capable of everything and still has the home button to allow for easy app quitting etc for that age

      • I got a new one early 2025 for $350 but I haven't seen any new 9th or 10th gen for sale in a while.

      • still has the home button

        That's a con, not a pro 😭

      • 64GB (iPad 9) did the job for a long time but it's very limiting in 2026. New iOS is bigger and install productivity apps like Office or if kids want to use iMovie you're cooked. It'll be out of space with storage warnings within a week. Get 128GB at least they'll be able to save more than one or 2 videos.

        • What sort of tasks do you think a four year old is doing on a tablet?

          • @topherboi: iPads can last years and years (unlike Android tablets). I have a apple laptop from 2014 that I was using until quite recently, so perhaps the better question is what does a 9 year old do on their iPad….

            • @Ti-au: Correct. My daughter is 7 and does animation stuff, drawing, using iMovie, playing games. It's an ipad9 and constantly has storage warnings and we have to keep having the discussion of what she wants to keep.

    • This is the current base-model iPad.

I can’t imagine it being unsuitable for a 4 year old - I’m a 50 year old software engineer and I’m happy with it.

      • No, he traded in his child for this iPad.

        • Makes sense. Based on what I've seen of four-year-olds, I'd take the iPad.

          • @axyh: iPad is short term gain long term loss.

4 year old has unlimited potential

            • @eddyah: It depends if apple gets their sh!t together with Ai or not. Full agentic here we come!

          • @axyh: I'd take a maxi pad

    • Nothing can replace a child, not even an Ipad

      • AI can

    • Replacement for 4 year old child? Probably not.
Replacement for 4 year old iPad? Yes.
Replacement for 4 year old's iPad? More than adequate.

  • Welp this is how I discovered that big w gc's got removed from Macquarie Marketplace lol

  • Confirmed Officeworks price beat to 474.

    • Ditto. Got the $474. Thanks to the OP

      • Was that $474 delivered from OW?

        • I’m picking up but I’m GUESSING there would deliver for free

          • @roonie: They price matched and gave free delivery, thanks!

    • Wouldn’t do it for me in the Nowra store

      • They wouldn't price beat from BigW for me then Amazon did $499 went back and then they did the price beat for $474

  • Ah dang just bought this at OW last 2 weeks with price beat Dicksmith to $511. Wonder if can use credit card price protection but I think OW need to down their price to $499 in order to activate PP policy.

  • lol - this is a better price than the official refurbished ones - https://www.apple.com/au/shop/refurbished/ipad

    • apple really do rely on the sheep to an extent.

  • Can anyone recommend a keyboard folio type case to go with this?

    • There are rubbish ones where the keyboard is not integrated as part of the case. Rather the keyboard sits on top of the case (just using magnets on the back of K/B. These are horrible (and use $1.99 keyboards).

If your okay with Alibaba, you can search:
'Pivot Split Keyboard Case with Trackpad and Colorful Backlight TYPE-C Charging and 150mAh Battery'
this is the kind of case you are looking for as they have a proper integrated keyboard. These ones are quite good because the keyboard can split from the ipad rather easily. Costs is around $30 or so.
(Im sure you could find the same pictures/products on ebay Australia).

Also C3295 pencil (Goojodoq brand) seems to be the latest (cheap) non touch pressure copy of the apple pen (good for notes, bad for graphic artists).
If you need touch pressure you need to get the logitech or apple one.

    • I cant sorry - but there are lots of youtube reviews for it when I was looking for an iPad Air one. I didnt end up getting one because I knew my kid would drop it and none of them looked robust enough to withstand that kind of abuse. I went with an Otterbox case instead.

If you are intending to use it with a keyboard most of the time - maybe consider the Macbook NEO?

      • Macbook neo would be a way better option if you need a keyboard imho.
        +1

      • I forgot to add - when I do want to use my ipad with a keyboard. I just use my PC one - its bluetooth and the mouse on the iPad is pretty cool too.

    • It will be for my son to use at school, school requires use of iPad. He has had one for the past 5 years and looking to upgrade now he is doing Yr 11 and 12

  • Just a heads up that Officeworks find it easier to price match with Amazon.

    • I can't see a 499 ipad on amazon right now.

  • Nice! Price matched at OW. Picked up 2 for my folks.

    • Did you try to price beat? Should be $474.05 per unit.
I got mine at that price.

  • Amazon looks to be sold out :(

Anyone know generally how long it takes for them to restock?

  • Thanks OP! Priced matched this at my local Officeworks in Victoria. Just showed the sales assistant this Big W ad on my phone.

  • Price beat at office works for $474.05 payed using the 10% off ultimate gift cards so came up to $429.05.

    • officeworks allows multiple gift cards /mixed payment methods?

      • Had to go instore but they do unlimited in store and 1 over the phone/online

    • Did you price match online? Any issues with no model number in bigw web site as some others mentioned? Thanks.

      • had to go instore due to gift cards but i did call ahead online and they were able to price beat it

        • Thanks, i was able to get the price beat by calling them, i not sure why but they put me on hold and passed me through different agents as they had to "check" if they could price beat it over 30 minutes. got there in the end. they delivered it too.

  • $474.04 price match at officeworks.

    Great deal.

  • looks like OOS. can you still pricematch at OW?

    • OW doesn’t price match due to OOS. I tried yesterday.

  • Thanks, price matched with Officeworks. Officeworks even gave me an option to select any colour.
