just bought the sleeping dog and the free Gravity Circuit from steam to play on my Mac.
I haven’t tried the 8bitDo but have used the Xbox controller fine on my MacBook. I have however had issues with sticky triggers (and have had to partially pull apart the controller to fix) so personally I’d look at alternatives next time.
Bought a pricey 8bitdo controller that their website stated was compatible with Mac games. Which may have been the case…
Bought it right before a flight overseas.
Had loaded up a bunch of windows games via crossover to play on the plane, with controller.
No good. Every button was either in the wrong spot. GTA 5 just immediately panned to the ground.
Got an Xbox controller whilst overseas, worked fine straight away.
I have this and the 8Bitdo Ultimate 2 wireless. the 8Bitdo is miles better than this. Better rumble motor, gyro based controls, 2.4Ghz wireless (wayy better than Bluetooth)
8bitDo is a better build in just about every way imaginable but pain to set up and update and awful fit for human sized hands.
On the other hand, Xbox/PS controllers just work and feel perfect out of the box but wear down and give you stick drift and sticky triggers over time.
It's a tough one. I just bought a Razer Wolverine V3 Pro and it beats them both.
I reckon the 8bitdo or Gamesir alternatives would be better
Have you tested on an XBox these controllers?
XBox have their own tech to communicate between console and controller that is incredibly low latency.

Gamesir Cyclone 2 feels the same as Xbox in terms of size. Only got one recently because Xbox controller A button gave up, wish I had swapped sooner.
8bitdo and Gamesir make Xbox controllers with Hall effect and TMR sticks. You need to buy a version that is Xbox branded but they won't get stick drift like an Xbox controller which uses basic petentiometers which fail over time
8bitdo well overrated in these comments. First party controllers Xbox and PS5 always better.
Can't speak for the 3rd party ones but stick drift is a thing on 1st party Xbox controllers. Very annoying, and difficult to fix.
Its the same thing for Playstation, even the pro controllers use shit rubber membrane stick petentiometers. I have replaced all my kids broken drifty ones with TMR ones from Aliex which only cost ~$20 for 10 but theres 28 desolder and resolder points per controller. Huge pain in the ass
@Count Shagula: What did you end up going with to desolder? Had a quick look at swapping one out the other day. Pain in the arse trying with a iron and solder sucker.
I figured a hot air tool would be easier but I don't have one.
@Duff5000: I bought a multi tip solder station from Aliex with a magnifying glass holder and used a solder sucker and braid. I had issues with the first one trying to get the solder off and found it much easier after getting some lead mix stuff and dropping it on to each solder first. The first controller is a pain in the ass. The second one is also a pain in the ass. And then on. Its worth it though. Im now pretty good at soldering stuff so learnt a life skill i guess

Sticks will drift less than a year, unless you don’t use it regularly, suggest getting something with Hall effect.
I've never had stick drift with these controllers but maybe i'm just lucky.
Then again I also have gen 1 joycons that have miraculously avoided stick drift so maybe that says more about my usage than anything else
