Do you mean as opposed to a cheaper brand smart watch? Or you mean as in a watch in general?

I have a smart watch and have worn it for years.. Huawei GT3. Battery lasts uo to 2 weeks (Main complaint with smart watches is battery).
I mainly use it as a watch, alarm (Great to wake me up with vibration without waking the wife), to find my phone and to log my runs. I don't really pay attention to sleep reports or anything else. But its nice to look at sometimes.
I have known people to talk about the measurements they give in a way that sounds neurotic to me.
But maybe those people just have underlying anxiety issues?

@jv: My dad got it for me from iherb (I usually am a snob for coffee machine coffee) but when I said I liked it he gave me the rest of the jar.

I suggest Googling the functionality of these watches. Between my Apple watch and my iPad I barely take my phone out of my bag unless I want to take a photograph.

They all complement each other. My iPad basically does most of the day to day functions of my PC, especially when travelling. The watch can send SMS, has apps for things like the weather, acts as my fitness device, I can answer phone calls to my phone, it has timers, loyalty card apps, wallet, etc. The phone now is mostly just the Hot spot glue to hold things together and a camera.
Having the functionality on my wrist rather than the phone is very convenient. Much less risk of losing the phone or not being able to find it when I need it.
I sit on public transport, play my games, read the paper, do my crosswords on the iPad. Walking around I check my fitness readings, my SMS messages, weather readings, loyalty card activation, etc from my wrist.

@maxwin: OK. So exactly how much research did you do into what you were buying? In your case the technology probably is wasted. That is fine. People have different requirements and level of engagement.

@maxwin: Horses for courses, but for consumption rather than production I find the iPad a lot more convenient. I’m writing this on my iPad whilst sitting in my favourite bakery. It fits nicely in my sling bag and is highly portable. It is also designed for casual game play. The screen is a perfect size for doing my cryptic crosswords.
The watch can be stress inducing but it is also a push to just go that bit further for exercise. It also has a lot more functionality than just exercise.
I just think you might get a bit more value from what you have if you did a bit of exploration.
However you do you, we are cool.

@plmko: If I wanted a greatly reduced experience then sure. I could’ve stuck with my 14” Amiga monitor as a TV instead of my current 65” LG smart TV as well. It is about user experience and convenience.
I’ve done the “use the phone only” and moved on. However, you do you.

@rokufan: I use the soft keyboard on the iPad. It is more than adequate for writing emails, booking accomodation, putting up comments, etc.

Android sucks because it doesn't have anything near as useful as Apples shortcuts feature. Using this I can talk to Siri and get it to pull information from the apps on my phone.
Then there is the issue of security updates. Fine if you go with Pixel but it sucks for everything else.
Talking about security: do you want to grab files off your NAS via SMB? Android: just install this third party app by an unknown vendor and give it total access to your phones filesystem. What could go wrong?
Then there is the emulator issue which is bizarre to me. Why do I have to sideload apps just to do emulation? Add to this the new restrictions on sideloading.
Then there is the overall issues of getting your device repaired. Most repairs are same day at Apple. Book an appointment online and there you go. With Android devices you have to go to one of those small dodgy shops that are not using genuine parts.
Then there is the lack of good smart watches. Big square face, water proof for swimming and has Google Pay? You are paying about the same as an Apple watch for something that looks uglier that has nowhere near the same level of support as an Apple watch.
Honestly I wanted to move over to Android. It pains me that I will have to fork out a large sum of money for a phone that doesn't even come in black but Android sucks in the year 2026. Apple was the best -> Android took the lead with more features -> Then phones became a malware target so the choice was feature rich Android or safe Apple -> Then Apple caught up adding features and customisability on top of security.
For reference I am using a 6 year old iPhone 11 Pro Max. I had the battery replaced by Apple this year. It still gets updates.

Apple announced a drop in support for some older watches the day before this sale.
My wife’s series 7 will be out of support for the next iOS release. Trade in prices hadn’t dropped to reflect this yet so got $90 trade in via jb hifis partner. Combined with jb hifi gift cards from Macquarie to soften the blow a little bit.
I wouldn’t put it past Apple that they have deliberately timed this sale to soften to blow of the announcement around their watches. EOLIng the Apple Watch Ultra 1 in particular earned them a bit of flack.

Warning if you get an Apple Watch 11 you need at least an iPhone 11 running the latest IOS to activate it.
If you have, for example, a perfectly good iPhone XS you are shit out of luck!As me how I know..;)

Now my old iPhones are sound systems for the car. Load them up with music.
