    I have two of the 2tb version and they have severe issues. I CANNOT recommend them

    The drive in this deal is not the Extreme Pro variants; you can tell based on the handle (if it's built into the casing design, then it's an Extreme Pro, otherwise if it's silicone and sticks out, then it's not an Extreme Pro)

    I've not had any reliability issues with my drive from 2023 however. I do air on the side of caution with SanDisk in general anyway just in case. Same goes for WD.

        Really there's no one reliable brand. From what I can tell, if we're not looking at flash storage, Seagate seems to be pretty decent. In terms of consumer flash storage it's Samsung from what I know

        But the answer is that realistically, you shouldn't be depending on one brand for all your data storage anyway. 3-2-1 does need 3 copies on 2 types of media at minimum, so great opportunity to have 2-3 brands of storage at least

  My local Kmart had a 2TB model (SDSSDE30) stuffed behind all the 1TB, must've been a deleted item because I bought it for $79 a few months ago.

  My intention was to use it as an external SSD game drive for a Batocera setup I put on a Rock 4C+. It works well for being a fat little piggy with all the games I could ever wanna play. I did get curious and opened it up to see what was inside. I took pictures and researched chip model numbers and the like. ADHD-tier hyperfocus rabbit hole quest for pics/info below:

  Picture top of PCB here, picture of bottom here. It's a WD Blue SN580. DRAM-less.

  The top chip is the SanDisk PCIe Gen 4.0 x4 controller, 20-82-10048-A2 2445Z8P283P.

  The bottom chip is a Sandisk 2TB TLC nand, 019603 2T00 3275DJFQA005.

  The chip controlling it is an ASMedia ASM2362 (info here ). The info page confused me because the title says "USB3.2 Device Controller 10G", but the chip is described as an "ASMedia first generation PCI Express(downstream port) to USB3.1(UFP) bridge" and further down states that it supports "USB3.1 Gen2".

  The WD SN580 NVMe itself is capable of some blistering speed, but it was paired with a gimped bridge that supports "up to PCI Express Gen3 x2." To go from theoretical R/W of ~5,150 MB/s and ~4,850 MB/s to an advertised ~800 MB/s just feels gross lol.

  It's a shame the Rock 4C+ only has base USB 3.0 ports, as that's the real bottleneck. Real world I can eek out a solid ~480-510 MB/s if all conditions perfect, saturating the full USB 3.0 bandwidth. But otherwise, this drive works fine for what I am using it for.
