Seems like a decent laptop with good specs. Super powerful CPU according to the benchmark and tier lists. RTX 5070 is enough for its resolution. 1TB SSD doesn't need an immediate upgrade. OLED is not common on a middle range laptop I think.
I searched on OzBargain and found that the last good deal for Legion 5i was in last year December, which was just before the RAM price went crazy. So considering current situation with all the computer parts, this could be a good price.
Let me know if you can find a similarly good one with better price though.

      Many laptops are with RTX 5050, 5060, 5070 and they all only have 8GB GPU. It's common for a laptop and I don't think it could be a reason to neg this deal.

          You need at least the 5070Ti to have 12GB or 5080 for 16GB VRAM. These are well over $3000 unfortunately, though you might be able to pick up a low end 5070ti (without OLED etc) for about this price when on super discounts. But havent seen any this year because I think they are upgrading the laptop range to have 16GB for mobile 5070Ti as well as a 12GB model for the standard 5070.

          I agree, that's why it doesn't make sense to spend extra for a RTX 5060 or 5070 as the bottleneck will be the 8GB VRAM. I experienced this myself with the 4000 series, it's even worse now. For this generation I'd just get a 5050 (8GB), spend a bit more for the 5070 Ti (12GB), or wait for the 12GB 5070 variant.

        I got a refurb Legion 7i gen 10 from Lenovo Outlet back in March with basically the same specs as this but with a slightly better CPU for $2k. It looked basically new, no evidence of being used previously. Lenovo Vantage app said the battery had only 2 charge cycles on it. If u are happy to take a gamble with refurbished, keep an eye out on Lenovo Outlet. You still get a year warranty if you buy direct from Lenovo.

    I got the 5060 500gb version of this for 2399 plus 15% cashback. Weighed up getting this one posted by the OP at the time but went with the 5060 as not using it for gaming. I half wish I had got the 5070 version as the upgraded GPU and extra 500gb is probably worth the additional $300.

      Not everyone needs a beast of a gaming laptop while on the go. I have an 8GB 5070 laptop and so far i have been using it to play Diablo 4 and Forza Horizon 6 on my 4k tv. I definitely cant max everything out in either game, but with a bit of tweaking i can keep vram requirements under 8GB and still get over 60fps. I couldnt use frame gen without going over 8GB, so 12GB would be better, but the price jump is huge and for some people its not worth it.

      For someone purchasing as their primary gaming PC, 12GB+ would be much better, but then the 5070 is a bit of a weak GPU also.

        It's not about it being a "beast" or not, it's about paying a premium for a deliberately engineered bottleneck. There is no point paying for a significantly faster die if the 8GB buffer forces you to drop texture qualities down to medium or disable frame generation just to prevent stuttering.

        ​The entry level mobile 5050 and 5060 already ship with 8GB of VRAM. Putting that same allocation on a 5070 entirely chokes the extra computing power you paid for. If you are forced to run identical settings to a lower tier card just to stay under the VRAM ceiling, you might as well just save the cash and buy a 5060.

        Worse yet, Nvidia just quietly rolled out the 12GB variant of the laptop 5070 to fix this exact design flaw. Buying the legacy 8GB model for $2.7k right now is an absolute trap. It's going to age terribly, and buyers are going to feel completely short changed when modern titles hit that VRAM wall.

          My point still stands though unless the 12GB variant costs the same as the 8GB model. It will almost certainly come with a price premium. The 5070 is a slow enough GPU that settings in games need to be reduced regardless of VRAM. Even with 12GB VRAM, i would not be running max settings on anything because frame rates would drop significantly. This laptop will age just fine as long as you are realistic with expectations about configuring graphics settings to match its capabilities.
          Would have i prefered a 5070Ti with 12GB vram? Of course, but the price would have jumped by way more than I was comfortable with. I could have gone with a 5050 or 5060 for even cheaper, but then I would have to reduce graphics settings even more. I just wanted something cheap that I could game on when away from home, and a 5070 laptop for $2k was perfect for that. Lower specced machines for a cheaper price do have their place on the market. The only trap is having unrealistic expectations for what will run on a machine like this.
